Pre-op essentials purchases

Recommended Posts

Dear all,

My surgery date is 20/11/2019 and I am very excited about it.

I would like to ask you if there ate any essentials items to be bought before surgery.

For example I read that a maternity pillow will be great to sleep on... Hair loss prevention spray, the small measurement cups/spoons/containers?

Any help would be highly appreciated :)

Also, any pre-op tips? In Europe doctors do not prescribe a liquid diet. i was just told to eat healthy and exercise, as any kg lost will ease recovery and facilitate the surgery.

Are you aware of any other recommendations in this sense?

Thank you and good luck to you all.

@Ruxa. Hi My surgery is the 11th of November is your date November 20th . I m getting the bariactric bowl set which is basily giving you the right size for each food you should eat. I also have in my cart a 64 oz water bottle that have the times to sip to complete your Water for the day on it and it tells you how much you sipped .yes a pillow is great. don't forget your Vitamins requirements. I also have bariactric forks and spoons to eat off smaller forks make it easier to put less on that fork.If your bed does not recline you may want to buy a wedge pillow to raise you up for a comfortable sleep position. These are what I can think of for now . All this stuff from Amazon .

Hi I was really happy I purchased: an inexpensive food scale, measuring cups, full length mirror, at home workout dvd and cozy warm clothing.

Good Luck 💚

I am 7 months post-op. I wish I had the money back that I wasted on measuring devices, blenders, books on the subject, including recipe books, etc. I got so caught up in being "in the program" that I wanted to feel like a member by getting all these new things I thought I needed.

In all honesty, you will learn very quickly how much food you will be able to eat without special scales, etc. Also, you will learn what you can handle and what you cannot in the early weeks. It's all nice to get excited for the process, but not at the expense some of these things cost me. Speaking of that, I have a nutri-ninja for sale and some recipe books if anyone's interested, just kidding.

Good luck on your surgery upcoming

I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience

Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently

Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore

sugar free popsicles

benefiber

biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me.

carmex lip balm

5 oz anchor measuring cup

Water bottle with measurements on it.

Torini sugar free syrups...for Decaf coffee

ice cube tray - for freezing broth

popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize

store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth

Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the Protein Shakes

Make sure you have extra Protein like GENEPRO to blend in to help you meet your protein goals

Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds

plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes

Loose panties

subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and Proteins and everything

I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange

soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk

get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers

Things I bought that I didn't use.

I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups

100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my Fluid intake this way...ummm..no..

almond Creamer, just don't like it

Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go"

I'm a year out and my advice is not to buy a case of ANYTHING because your tastes may change after the surgery and it will get wasted. I did find some plastic 2 oz cups helpful after because that was my serving size for the first month or so.

such good advice..pre-op I was drinking the coconut flavored Protein Water. Can't stomach that anymore.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
