Obesity Explained (Also Insulin Resistance and Diabetes Aeteology)

Recommended Posts

This YouTube by Dr. Jason Fung is one of the most fascinating and interesting theories on obesity that I've come across to date. I don't post this in order to persuade people to go "low carb" or "keto" or to being IF (intermittent fasting). I'm posting it because it explains pretty logically how we've developed the disease of morbid obesity and why insulin resistance and diabetes are a pandemic. He also gives a couple of hints about how to reverse it (in practice), but he said the longer someone has been obese, the harder it is to lose the weight and keep it off.

So, uh, maybe we are victims of hormonal shananigans? What if the food industry, WHO, et al, in partnership with our hormones combined with our gut-brain axis HAVE conspired to get us and keep us fat? Will becoming aware of our conditions and the "cure" cause us to maybe take a second look at how we view food and "treating ourselves" with small portions of "everything in moderation" when it's the exact same food that led us to becoming obese morbidly obese the first time around? Is the answer in changing our relationship with food--awareness?

What do y'all think?

I think our ADA and government along with the food industry wants to keep us helpless. Not only about diabetes, but about the progressive worsening fate of obesity. Our WLS is a tool, but it takes our action to use that tool correctly and with the proper foods. Right? Whatever that "proper" meal plan is for you long term.

Here's the Lie:

I've met Jason he is great and I met the diet Dr. So much info out there about how we have all become so fat, sad state of affairs really. Still, people out there saying the current food pyramid is the correct one. Prof Tim Noakes said the current 'old school' head honchos would have to kick the bucket before we see proper changes to how our diets are managed/promoted because they are paid huge amounts by big pharma. The whole thing is a huge mess. Even with NO medical background anyone with half a brain can see that treating diabetes with high sugar foods then administering insulin to lower that sugar level makes absolutely no sense and the longer you do it the more and more sugar lowering meds you need! CRAZY!

Oh wow, now finally someone "explains" obesity and enlightens the masses! WOOHOOO!!!!

Well, a few too many claimed to have "it all sorted out" and "being able to provide a solution to the crisis" in the past. I wonder what the big hype will be 5 years from now. 🙄

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
