PLEASE HELP. I’m 2 weeks post op with very little weight loss.

I’m 2 weeks post op and I have only lost about 7 pounds. I am following the diet as required and I am also walking 30 mins per day. I’m getting scared this may not have worked for me. Shouldn’t the weight be falling off? On surgery day my weight was 229, the scale today said 222. What should I do?

Easier? There is nothing easy about bariatric weight loss. This takes work. Breathe, relax, and take this one day at a time. You didn’t gain weight overnight. You won’t lose weigh over night. So

    1. Give it time. You're only 2 weeks out. Also, there's a chance you'll lose no weight at all for a few weeks (search 3 week stall). Mentally prep for it, because if slow loss is bothering you now, th

@sillykitty you made me smile. I guess I am looking at it in terms of me hitting a stall so soon, but I am loosing again. Overall I am very happy with the weight loss. I feel great and I am fitting into clothes I haven't worn in morning a year. Thankful for that and for this site.

Don’t panic I’m six weeks out and only lost 9lbs saw my surgeon today he’s over the moon with me

I lost quite a lot on the pre op diet

Ive hidden my scales and just going to follow what I know is right

I’m confident it will happen albeit slowly but that’s fine with me

I’m moving to solid food today so we’ll see what happens

ditch the scales and let yourself heal and be kind to yourself

It will happen when your body is ready

good luck

Please do not panic. Everyone loses at a different rate and for me lack of calories in led to a minor slow down because my body decided less than 500 cals was a great point to invoke starvation mode. I upped my intake to 800 and immediately started losing again. Most importantly, weigh once a week, not daily, do your weekly measurements so you can see the inches fall away and ....... not a single one of us put on all the weight in 2 weeks, we sure as heck are not gonna see it fall off in 2 weeks....no matter how bad we all want that. Keep doin what you need to, walk, sip and get your protein in and the rest will take care of itself. Keep the faith, you are doing great

Thank you very much for your reply. I think your insight about the calorie intake may help. I have emailed my nutritionist to see if I can add more protein per day. Add increase my calories to 800. Also, I’m gonna kick that scale to the curb and walk more. BEST ADVICE! Thank you.

I am a newbie, as well. I am heading into my 7th week.

I hope what I am about to say will help in some way.

Weight loss surgery is a life-changing. I think that it requires a considerable adjustment period. For me, the first month was the hardest. My emotions ran wild in regards to my expectations. The fear of failing circulated continuously in my head, fueled by other people's loss - which I read about on the sight as well as people in my surgical group...many of which hadn't even been following their program but had lost more weight than I had. For many of us wls is our last resort after trying and failing at dieting over and over again.

Over time your expectations will change. Seven pounds is a lot to lose in the first two weeks. Everyone's body is different. Now that I am on real foods And have been able to up my water intake I am losing more weight...it might be the same for u. Hitting hydration, protein, moving those bowels and moving that body...is what makes a difference for me and it took me a while to settle into a pattern of what works for me - still settling in tbh.

If you lose 3.5 pounds a week, which equals 14 pounds per month times 3 equals 42 pounds - it isn't the short term weight loss picture it is the long term. I highly recommend using my fitness pal or Fitbit to track your weight so you can visually see how much weight you have lost. Set mini goals for yourself.

Personally, at this point, I would be thrilled to lose 3.5 pounds each week. Like more experienced members have said - this process takes work, more so for some I think and less so for others due to genetics pre existing conditions etc.

Congrats. I think you are doing great.

I am 3 weeks post and still on liquid diet and will be for at least 3 more per my dr. When I went for my two week check up I was told not to get discouraged because I probably would not lose more than 10 lbs over the next month. I’ll take it. Keep your head up. You will lose.

Well I think something must be wrong with me. I am nearly 4 weeks out and not only have I NOT lost any weight, I might have gained a pound. Normal caloric intake for a person my size is 1,000 calories/day. I am averaging 650-750 calories per day. Shouldn’t I be losing weight???? They told me to just focus on getting enough protein so my hair doesn’t fall out, nothing about caloric intake.

I didn't start focusing on calories until I was a few months out. Before then, if you're following your plan, you're really not eating enough to worry about calories. I was aware of my caloric intake because I was logging everything I was eating, but I only focused on protein and fluids for the first few months.

please be patient and be grateful you had the surgery. your body is getting use to the difference and it will take time. yah, some people have diffrent results but hang in there!

15-20 lbs is considered average. Your right on target.
You’re still healing. You had major surgery. Give your body a break

I was a slow loser from the get-go - I lost a total of 16 lbs my first month, and I started out WAY heavier than you. Yet I lost all of my excess weight. Just stick to your plan and the weight will come off - whether fast or slow...

Hi there! do you mind me asking how long it took you to lose all your excess weight? I am losing very slowly and I'm a year and a half out. At this rate, it's going to take me another two years to get to my goal weight. I'm trying not to panic about that and just embrace that this is the rate my body wants to lose at.

I lost 57 lbs prior to surgery between my six-month supervised diet and my two-week liquid diet. So on the morning of surgery, I weighed 316 lbs. After that, it took 18 (maybe 20?) months before I hit my lowest weight (138 lbs - I've gained 10 lbs since then - I need to update my profile!)

I have the same problem. My SW on surgery day was 265 and I have lost 7.8 lbs in 2 weeks. I have to keep reminding myself that this will pass and I might lose slow than someone with a higher BMI (mine is 40.3).

Thanks for your thread. I seen it when I hit my 3 week still after losing 14lbs in the first 2 weeks. I panicked. I'm now 4 and half weeks and just following the plan. How are you doing now? How much have you lost? I hope your doing well. Xxx
