Is This Sleep Apnea?
It would be impossible for lay persons (even Doctors) on here to diagnose to you on a forum. A sleep study would give you the answers you need.

Sleep Apnea Question
That would be a question for Dr. They all have different criteria.

How long did it take you to get your surgeries?
Wow! Considering that obesity is classified as a disease it's almost appalling they would make you go through that to save your life. It's almost like they're saying "prove to us your life is worth saving"

How long did it take you to get your surgeries?
My first Dr appt was Jan 17 th I haven't had surgery yet but my insurance dies NOT require supervised weigh ins so it's looking like my surgery will be late March early April. Everything will be submitted to insurance for approval on March 7th and as soon as we get approval (my insurance is pretty quick) I'll pick a surgery date and begin my pre-op diet. I have United healthcare Medicare advantage plan.

Anthem Healthkeepers Blue Cross Blue Shield experiences?
It would be best to call them directly. Medicaid covers bariatric surgery only in some states.

Menopause
I was thrown into instant medical menopause with the removal of my one remaining ovary (twisted and removed in an emergency surgery and my other was removed ten years earlier under the same circumstances). I have never had a single menopausal symptom and it's been over 3 years now.

"We don't think you're a good candidate for WLS at this time" ....Should I seek a 2nd opinion?
Also I wanted to point out that showing them your food diary/log DOESN'T prove your not a stress eater. It just shows WHAT you've eaten. Not WHY. Anybody can list eating as breakfast lunch snacks etc and therapists expect this. I reiterate that trained proffessionals are really good at takeing an objective look and seeing things we just can't. I had a really hard time admitting this one. While I've been approved to proceed with Surgery I've elected to also continue with counseling to work on the issues they see in me to see if I can recognize them in myself. I don't want sabotage myself post surgery. Counseling may be a good place for you to start just to test the waters. Maybe for a year and see if your in a different place next year.

Jan 2019 bypass buddies
Medicare absolutely covers bariatric surgery. As does all Medicare advantage plans. Medicare advantage plans are required by law to cover all services that Medicare covers. I have a Medicare advantage plan and my gastric bypass is covered 100 percent with no deductables or copays. My medicare advantage plan is through United healthcare.

"We don't think you're a good candidate for WLS at this time" ....Should I seek a 2nd opinion?
I swore up and down that I was NOT a stress eater. I really believed it. I had my initial peych eval and had to come back a week later to discuss the results of the written part. Well I went home and I was pretty anxious about my follow up on the psych eval. I mean... I really Wanted to pass the psych eval so I could proceed with my surgery. One day I found myself rummaging through the fridge and the cupboards and back to the fridge and not really finding anything I wanted. Then it hit me! I'm not hungry! I'm stressed! I AM a stress eater! I finally went back for my psych eval follow up. I admitted to them what I discovered about myself. Long story short I passed my psych eval. Being a stress eater doesn't disqualify you from weight loss Sur gery. In some cases they may identify some issues they want you to work on thru counseling before clearing to proceed. They didn't require me to that but I've elected to go to counseling while moving forward with the bariatric process. I think if I were you I'd get a 2nd opinion. One thing I've learned is trained proffessionals can often look at us objectively and see things that we really just can't.

What questions should I ask?
I asked my surgeon if he did other surgeries and if so what percentage of his practice was bariatric? Is the hospital he practices at a center of excellence? Is he accredited as a surgeon of excellence? Does he have a surgical team he routinely uses? If so how long have they been working together? Has he had any patient deaths and if so, under what circumstances? How long has he been doing bariatric surgery and how was he trained? I also recommend this book . It's available on amazon.com, eBay and may be available at your local library.
