I use 3 tablespoons of sugar free vanilla coffee creamer a day. It’s 45 calories and 4 carbs and it keeps me sane. I have been swapping it out with vanilla Protein Shake recently, I’ll probably continue to mix it up. I count and measure everything so I’m sure 45 calories is fine for me. Have you tried using a Protein shake?

I've done the Protein Shake and sugarfree creamers--they just don't do it for me. Accept no substitutes! :P

Good morning fellow May Ladies!

Was doing super well on my no junk food challenge until I fell off the wagon big time last night --cinco de fail-o. From about 6-10 I stuffed my face. Guess I will be adding on one more day to the end, going to the 11th of May to make up for it.

On the plus side, Saturday morning I weighed in at 183.2 - extremely close to tomorrow's mini-goal. Now of course this was before I binged last night! Hopefully tomorrow I will be staring at 183 even.

I will count this post as talking to friends. :)

One day at a time 😍

I recently had sleeve surgery. It is human nature to fall off the wagon and I know that some day it will happen to me. I'm curious when you say "binge". Does that mean the same as before surgery or are you still limited by your stomach size? Does it mean you ate unhealthy food? I worry that one day I wll eat the way I got to where I am now. Appreciate your feedback.

Yesterday was a bit of a write off for me... church, cooked a turkey for the fam (using some of the leftovers for freezer meals for them), and just lazed around. Didn't get my steps or push ups so I'm trying to make up for that today.

Day 5 - garden. Not planting my balcony container garden this year. I might pick up some herbs later in the season when they're on sale. Can't imagine a summer without a big bunch of basil.

Day 6 - talk to a friend. I have a weightloss buddy who is starting a new program today. Planning a phone call to check in on her and offer some encouragement.

I was high so I can ignore my sleeve to some extent, and at a year out my sleeve capacity is much more than what it was at 6 months. What i ate was a normal dinner (one small grilled chicken fajita, scoop of re-fried black beans), a few mini cornbread muffins, then later on I had a 100 calorie pack of almonds, two sips of strawberry milk, a croissant, and a med size blueberry muffin. That is quite a lot for a 4 hour span!

May Day #6

  • I know today is a rest day for pushups, but I did 6 anyway, as I seem to be getting better at them and I want to be a pushup pro like Mr. & the Kid.
  • Talk to a friend: Easy-peasy. I do this everyday already ;) Tonite, however, I'm meeting a couple girlfriends for drinks so will hopefully be talking to friends on a nice outdoor patio if the weather holds up *crosses fingers*

6. Well, I talked with a couple of friends earlier. So that's done. I also had a good time at the gym except there's this one crazy lady who always tries to talk to me at inconvenient times. Today, she walked over as I was doing crunches. All I could do was smile at her and keep counting. Other times, she catches me in the locker room while I'm trying to change for work. She's like the waitstaff who comes and asks you how the food is right after you put a forkful in your mouth.

The sun is trying to come out so maybe, I can do some garden stuff when I get home this evening. It's turning into a green jungle out there from all the rain.

Sorry I have missed a few days of posting.

Day 3. Watch a performance-Didn't go to a live show but did binge watch Fleabag this weekend.
Day 4. Have an early night-check
Day 5. Garden-I live in an apartment with no garden access, but I did go to the farmers market and central park this weekend.
Day 6. Talk to a friend-Going to see a friend tonight

I'm not doing the push-up challenge because I'm working on a consistent routine for weight machines in between cardio this month and that's about all I can handle.

I am doing the junk food challenge and so far so good. I can still only do about 4-5 ounces of food per meal so focusing on Protein kind of forces me to make good choices. Now that it is spring I'm switching up my meals a bit. I'm doing more greek yogurt for Breakfast or Snacks than I was this winter. I'm also happy that I don't have an issue with raw vegetables so salads are happening, although mine tend to be very protein heavy so I can get my 70 grams per day.

I made a yummy salad for lunch today. Microgreens, chicken, lavender goat cheese, strawberries, and homemade balsamic vinegarette. :)

B-Side #6 I've always liked my eggs poached or soft boiled, and still do. I looooove runny egg yolks.

Here's a little bit of #eggPorn for your viewing pleasure to show you what I mean...I made this for the fam a while back and just had to video it: Smoked salmon on crispy rösti potatoes topped with a poached egg, served with sour cream (not shown). If I remember correctly, I had a couple bites of egg yolk-soaked salmon only from the Kid's plate.

B side... I'm big on scrambled eggs, and they have to be dry. None of those soft squishy runny scrambled eggs for me. I've only recently (in the last couple of years) come to appreciate a runny yolk. I'm interested to see if my tastes change post op.

B Side- I have always liked a runny yoke after surgery on the soft food stage scrambled eggs didn't sit well with me at first so poached eggs were the way to go. Once I got to the end of the soft food stage I was okay with scrambled eggs again.

Lately, I've been doing omelets on the weekend because the low-fat cheese and meat add some extra Protein. For weekdays I've been making egg white "muffins". Baked egg whites in muffin tins with veggies and cheese. They are perfect to take on the go and pop in the microwave at work.

#7. Work up a sweat. Boy, did I. I take a strength training class twice a week (at 5 am, no less) and this morning we did hollow holds, pike ups, RDLs, and a whole bunch of other stuff that had me sweating like a fiend. I remember when I used to hate working out... now I crave it (and sweating, too!).

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
