Today is the day!!!! I’m here, all checked in and in my bed. I am super nervous and feel like I’m gonna puke ( although that may be due more to the nasty full sugar Gatorade they had me drink than my nerves)

I will check in on the flip side- good luck to everyone else going today- I know there were quite a few of us!!!

I’m currently sitting in the pre-op area. Doc is running behind, should have been in the OR 48 minutes ago. I just want to get this done and over with!

Had my surgery on August 5th. I’m down 27lbs already. Holding fast to the liquid diet.
Holly smokes that’s a lot of lbs in a week! Did you have sleeve or bypass? I’m so nervous I am on the 26th!

I started the liquid diet two weeks before the surgery. That helped a lot and then the surgery was flawless. I’ve stuck to the liquid diet and am walking as much as I can. The entire experience has been incredible.

I wish you the best.

Hey August Sibs[emoji112][emoji112]
When you read people going through a freak out when it's close to surgery day and yours is so far off, one thinks that can't be me, I'm super charged and eager!🤨

Well now me soon and I sincerely have had occasional freak out moments! I feel like I don't recall all I've learned or like I don't know enough [emoji33][emoji33] or I'm not prepared!
I've read and reread my preop notes and still feel like I'm missing something and I don't have enough time to get it! Arghhhhhhhh!

Anyway, Surgery on Friday and I'll continue to meditate and know that I have this forum, my surgical team and my social support (cue in my clueless hubby who keeps looking at me with a side eye [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]) to aid in time of need![emoji106]

Hope you guys that had surgery today and yesterday are doing great. You are in our thoughts and prayers for speedy recovery [emoji169][emoji169][emoji169][emoji169]🧡🧡🧡🧡[emoji173][emoji173][emoji173][emoji173][emoji173]

I’m about 48 hours post-op. Surgery was Monday at 10am. No complications.

Monday and Tuesday were rough. I felt like I was in much more pain than I should have been. I couldn’t reach or bend and getting in and out of bed or in and out or a sitting position was so excruciating I would yell whenever I felt the incision pain. The hospital (Mass General in Boston) thought I was doing well and discharged me yesterday, about 28 hours post-op. The ride home was painful, even in the passenger seat, reclined. I definitely felt a lot of regret, especially on Tuesday, which was more painful than the 12 hours after surgery.

I haven’t been sleeping well. It was very hard to sleep in the hospital, even with earplugs. The longest period of sleep I’ve had was this morning, from like 6am to 9am. The gas pain is subsiding, and the incision pain is less than it was last night. I’m up now walking in circles around the around and taking little sips of Gatorade Zero and Premiere Protein. Feeling a lot better than yesterday. Extra strength Tylenol and occasional oxycodone only when absolutely needed is helping, as well as ibuprofen, which I can only take through tomorrow.

Hey surgery twin! I felt exactly the same way, this was by far the most painful surgery I’ve had. the hospital staff were great but there were a couple of times where my medication was late because my med schedule coincided with staff changes- that was NOT fun!!
But I’m home now and after getting some actual sleep I’m doing better. The incisions still hurt a lot and I’m getting some gas pains in waves but it seems like it’s getting a little better hour by hour.
But what really matters is WE DID IT!!!
Our journey has begun!!

Hello August friends!! :)

Ive been mia since my surgery but now that I’m a bit better I just wanted to give you all an update.

My surgery was on 8/5 and I went in with zero nerves and just ready to get it over with. The surgery went well but WOW was I in pain! I read people get pain in their shoulders and chest but all my pain was just in my stomach. My stomach hurt so baddddd. It was all the gas I’m assuming. When I woke up they asked me my pain level which was like a 10 for me and they tried to give me pain meds but nothing worked. They tried 4 kinds of meds and nothing! It was like I was immune. So I spent each day in the hospital dealing with the pain and taking nausea medication. I was throwing up blood and flem each day and which sucked. I spent three days in the hospital because I couldn’t drink two shakes a day. I was walking a lot and doing everything I was suppose to, just not the shakes.

Since I’ve been home things have gotten better. I no longer have the stomach pain BUT I can’t drink any Protein Shake. Honestly, I’ve been taking in maybe 0 to 5 grams a day of Protein. I’ve been living off Water and some homemade Soup. Before surgery I was able to tolerate the shakes. Now it’s impossible. I can’t drink any milky ones just water and even when I do drink water based ones I still feel like puking. Just the smell of it turns my stomach. I’m hoping to move on to puree soon so that I can get the nutrition I need from real food. All the artificial sugar from the shakes sticks to my tongue and I just can’t deal with it.

I’m one week two days post op and I can tell I’m ready for the purée because some of the Soups I made had lumps, eggs, and were not the smoothest and I have been able to drink them with no problem at all.

As for as my weight loss goes, I gained two pounds from the hospital. From today I lost 23 pounds post op and 10 pounds from the liquid diet. So far so good! I wish you all a speedy recover and smooth sailing! Let’s stay strong and positive!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
