Free but checking in so others can see my progress!

Starting Weight: 257 lbs

Weight on Day of Surgery: 243 lbs

Goal Weight: 180 lbs

Current Weight: 225 lbs

It's hard to believe. The pounds just disappear without any physical effort or dieting. This only lasts until the end of the honeymoon period though so I am exercising more and I plan to continue eating protein first at the top of all future meals. Things I notice and love: my favorite jeans are very loose in the back and especially around and under my butt. My bra straps keep slipping down: there is less to stick them in place! My cheekbones have returned. My neck is slimmer. I can see my shoulder definition. The moobs that were on my back are gone (goodbye moobs)! My thighs are developing loose skin and whole soft "chunks" of them are disappearing which has made their shape smaller and kind of gooey. When I put my hand on my side, I feel RIBS. When I lie down and rest a hand on my hip, I feel A HIP BONE there! Best of all: I do not have to suck my tummy in anymore and when I look straight down, past my breasts, I no longer see my stomach: I can see MY FEET! MY GOD! Not just in the shower but EVERYWHERE. Thank God for surgery.

Things that take getting used to: It's hard drinking enough fluid daily while also spacing meals in between, so I find myself less inclined to even eat since I'm almost never hungry and meal prep takes so many extra steps. (I am eating, just nothing at all the amt I did before the bypass.) Today I had mixed mashed potatoes with a little yellow Thai curry sauce, and a nugget of pulsed pureed chicken about the size of a strawberry. Those and 1 1/2 roasted brussel sprout were all my pouch could handle, and at two meals six hours apart. Gosh did I love that brussel sprout. I always loved vegetables and it's been tough not having any. I pulsed a sprout today finally and it was heaven. I experienced my first dumping two days ago. I was a bit constipated so on my surgeon's advice I ate a prune. The pouch did not like a prune at all and I wound up parking on a side street and throwing up in a garbage can. It came up carefully chewed into mush but with no stomach acid. Vomiting is easier with no acid but is still unpleasant.

Ondansetron and Zolfran are my best friends. Surgeon put me on it and said take it daily for a month. The pills are sweet like sugar, which I dislike. I'd prefer bitter like aspirin. You can't win them all I guess.

Everyone is so surprised at how I look and people are asking me interested questions about the surgery. Lots of people want to try it but are afraid. I hope to rest their fears and do the same for those here who have not had their surgeries yet. It's so worth it. Not one day goes by I regret having my bypass. On an unrelated note... boy do men notice me now. It makes me sad they put so much importance on how we look, especially what we might weigh.

I am the same girl I was 25 pounds ago and will be the same girl 50 pounds from now. It's weird.

My boyfriend returns from overseas a month from now. I wonder what HE will say. I have not sent him one picture yet :D

Continued good luck and happy weight loss to all April Babies and all the rest of you! Stay the course! It's worth it! (Edited to bold the prune story)

Thank you and oh yes yes yes!

My surgery is on April 23rd. Two days... While I do trust my team of providers completely, I'm starting to get nervous. I'm a cash patient, so I didn't have to go through the mandatory things insurance makes you do. They did educated me but I never had to do support group classes. Came across this app on my own, and just wanna say I'm so happy I did. Reading everyone's posts and stories is very motivating. Would love and appreciate any advice.

Bring a pillow for when you leave. Your core muscles are going to be majorly sore for a week so it hurts to laugh, cough sneeze and go to the bathroom. So it helps to keep the pressure on your core with the pillow. When you get out take metamucil in the morning and smooth move tea at night. Otherwise you will have major constipation which is worse than the surgery. Whenever you cook anything acidic like tomatoes add baking soda. It will neutralize the acid. While in have them give you heated pads to go over your stomach. It helps.

We’re almost surgery twins! My surgery was April 15 and I had a VSG. I’m 5’1”, starting weight was 227, day of surgery weight was 216, and my goal weight is 145-150.

I hope things are going well for you! I can hardly wait to get to my puréed food stage lol I’m already sick of all my fluids!

I haven’t had any issues. How have you done so far?

How do I start a May group?
IM having my bi-pass May 1. Anyone with me.

There is already a May group. Type in May surgery in the search field.

Best of luck to you.

Am glad I came across yr post. I just started my process. I weight 210. Also looking towards 150. When did u have your surgery.

@GastricGal good luck all will be fine for the 30th. I’m glad you have @Daisy’s as your twin.
@Bxvsg76 That’s great!! My surgery was done on April 16th.
Hi all here’s an update and follow on post from after my walk.

SW 310.2
WS 293.3
CW 279.8

GW 167.2

So the few days before my walk I started to get some heartburn with every sip I was taking and it was really painful. And feeling dizzy. That upset me greatly as I knew then I wasn’t drinking as much as I need to and just downright annoying. Each time I’d need to lay down.

I have my first post op appointment with the dr and dietician tomorrow so I’m going to discuss that with them.

Yay, I went for a walk for 25mins. (My knees are feeling it today, however it is more muscles that are tight making my knees hurt so I had already booked a physio appt before surgery, it is in a couple of days) And I need to do some fascia stretching - it’s painful but worth it.

My surgery wounds are healing well. 3 out of five have sealed right up. So I started to put a silicone scar gel on them all, it is also bacteria inhibiting.

I feel really great with the amount of weight that has gone, here’s some positive reasons so far...

Feel like I can actually go for a walk now.
Clothes are loose.
I feel just a little more agile than I was before.
I have the desire to want to do more now - a bit more positive.
Standing up from seated somewhere isn’t as hard.

I felt a bit nervous before my walk as I’d also been feeling dizzy the days before. Anyway, I blitzed it and it felt amazing to move and be outside. I’m hoping to keep a walk up each day, I’ll just do the same walk until I get fitter. So pats on the back to me! ??????

And I started to get a sore throat yesterday again, felt the same as the one I had before surgery ? so I didn’t sleep well last night, only 3hours sleep. My ears are blocked so it’s all sinus swelling in my head - painful.

I realise this post is possibly long and boring. But an account of how it’s been for me.

I’m really looking forward to recovering more ie wounds healing internally and externally and being able to move more and not have so much heartburn, I want to see more dropping down on the scales.

I guess when I’ve had to lay down from the heart burn it was making me feel very lazy, like old habits of not moving from the couch.

Good luck to everyone having surgery that is still to come. You’ll be fine.

Also on the off chance anyone gets a rash from the surgical tape/bandaid things. Sudocream works wonders. High in zinc. And yes it’s also a nappy rash cream.

Big hugs all round to everyone, what we are doing is not easy but it’s the best thing long term. I’m excited about the future - that’s hard for me to say.

Have a wonderful day all. Be kind to yourself and others.
