Angie, I get an error when I try to type a name into DM. If you DM I will respond. I think the app has a glitch
Okay sounds good! Sometimes the app doesn't work right!

Stephanie, I had to google the DS, I wonder why it’s not talked about much? Why did you choose that surgery? Looks like a good combo of the sleeve and bypass with the intestines.

I started working on not drinking with or within 30 minutes of my meals yesterday and it’s way harder than I thought it would be! For some reason as soon as my timer goes off saying it’s time to stop drinking I’m super thirsty.

I am also doing a major purge of my house. I think it’s all this nervous energy I have combined with the fact my job put me on furlough recently. I know this is horrible but I also worry something catastrophic will happen during surgery and I want to leave my house in order. That’s my biggest fear of this surgery really. I have kids and a husband and it stresses me out.

I choose it because my surgeon thinks it the best option for people who have a BMI over 50. I weigh 370 and at 5’7” my BMI is 59. I’ve also done a lot of research and it’s the surgery that has the highest long term success rate. I agree that it is a good combo of the sleeve and bypass.

I’m all for long term success!! My BMI is just under 50, they claim I am 5’3 but I’m sticking with my 5’5” I’ve said my whole life. I’m 262 right now.

I am also having surgery on March 27th. I go in for the preop appt on the 12th and start the liquid diet on the 13th. Not really looking forward to that but it will be ok. I'm just going to embrace the suckiness of it. I'm not nervous, yet, but I imagine some nervousness will set in once the day comes closer. I am so ready to get this done and start feeling better and getting off all the meds I am taking.

Hi, DavidP, my preop physical is the 13th of March, but I don't have to start the diet until one week before the surgery. I'm relieved. I'm sure we'll all do fine, although I am a little nervous.

I know there are a few other March 27th surgeries and I would love to get to know you guys. I feel disconnected from anyone and there are a few different march threads I can’t tell which one will stick so I decided to start one for the 27th people.
My name isTracy, I live in Nashville and my next appointment for preop is March 5th. I’m excited and nervous at the same time and I will believe all of this really happened when I wake up from anesthesia and they told me my bypass is complete.
I am married with 2 kids.
My surgery date is March 26th. I had my pre-op on March 6. Everything is in order and I'm as ready as I'm going to be. I'm nervous but it's more excited than scared. I'm having the sleeve surgery.
I live in Vermont. I have 2 adult children and 1 grandchild. I am very fortunate to have a supportive husband, children and 3 sisters. I think they're as excited as I am. My husband is nervous about the surgery but he is still supportive.

Hey everyone! I just got my gastric bypass surgery date for March 25th. I have my preop appt March 19th, so I will go ahead and start the liquid diet then.

I live Dallas Texas, 31 single mom with an amazing 9 year old daughter. I can’t wait to lose this weight that has been holding me back from so many things in life. I think the thing I look forward to the most is playing with my daughter and jumping on the trampoline.

My beginning stats are 5’5 and 295-297.

I wish y’all the very best and I can’t wait to see how far we all come. We are about to embark on the best journey of our lives.

Hi! My name is Jezzabelle! I'm 39. I live in MN. My date is March 14th. It's coming up fast and I also am feeling out of touch and am looking for a twin but don't seem to have one. I'm a singer and mother of a 19 year old college student and a 3.5 year old. I'm having the gastric bypass. My starting stats were 5'5 and 299lbs. I'm doing the liquid diet right now and I don't really think it's too bad to be honest. I'm down to 283 since starting on liquids. I was/am excited but 2 people today decided they needed to tell me surgery horror stories because people are thoughtless sometimes but forward I roll. Good luck to everyone. I'm really hoping to make some connections!

I'm sorry that people have been telling you horror stories. From what I understand from friends who have had gastric bypass, the first few weeks post op are hard and you may feel like you wish you didn't have the surgery. But those feelings pass as you feel better and see the progress. Then you're glad you did it and you feel more confident and motivated. I'm sure you're going to do great!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
