It’s interesting, I see/read people saying eating too much hurts but I haven’t really experienced that. I just kind of lose interest and stop eating or just eat my measured portion and I’m done. I’m not convinced my pouch would stop me from overeating. I guess it’s possible that I haven’t pushed the limits far enough to hurt, but on occasion I have eaten more than I think I should be able to eat, so I don’t really know. I have just reverted to weighing/measuring and trying to be conscious of when I’m satisfied and stopping there.

The only time I’ve had pain was from not chewing well enough and maybe eating too fast.

My reaction isn’t pain. It’s nausea. And it’s BAD sometimes!

Went out by myself for my birthday on Friday. Was only able to eat the 3 pcs of salmon, 2 sips of wine then bring on the nausea! Oh, well.... I’ll take the trade off for the weight loss.

My information says we’re good after 3 months for raw veggies. I’ve been doing green smoothies with berries for a while now a few times a week with no ill effects. I’m careful to measure 1/4 cup of them because carbs in a smoothie can add up quick.

Happy birthday! I wanted pizza with hubby and kids for Mother's Day. I wanted to Mod Pizza (it's a place where you can make your own pizza, sorta like Chipotles). I at a quarter of their mini pizza. I splurged, but that is all I dared to eat. It was a cheese pizza so I got in some protein.... right?

Yep, let's.say the Protein in the cheese outweighs the wheat- bearing crust, sound good?

Absolutely--and the crust there is super thin so definitely a wash. I was really able enjoy it too, which I was happy about. I used to eat an entire regular-sized Mod pizza so eating a quarter of the mini one AND feeling like I got to eat something of substance that tasted good was a treat. I'll take it!

Howwwwwwww are you able to eat pizza? *cries sad, pizza-loving tears*

I tried pizza and threw it all up (several times). Anything carb-y -- breads, crackers, etc. I'm likely to throw up. Carbs were my everything pre-surgery and now I can't look at them without feeling nauseous.

Happy Mother's Day to our resident Mamas! Hope you spend some lovely time with family ❤️

Oh, I'm so sorry EmzBee. You are having such a hard time with nausea and vomiting. I chew a million times before swallowing and only eat about 6-8 bites. I'm sure you are eating tiny bites too. I feel so awful for those of you suffering nausea. I have emetophobia (how do you spell that!) which is a fear of vomiting. I've had nausea, but it's been rare (dry heaving). I freak out. I can imagine how awful you must feel. I'm sure I'll experience it more often as I try new foods.

This is lunch today. Homemade egg drop soup! A cup of stock (vege, cause I'm trying to go back to vegetarianism) a little soy sauce, black pepper, pinch of turmeric, a little coconut oil, a pinch of nutritional yeast. Wait for it to boil then drop a couple of beaten eggs in slowly while stirring vigorously.

Warm, tasty, cures my ramen cravings and easy on the pouch! Yay, something I actually enjoy eating for once! Lol.IMG20190513130154.jpeg

I have no idea if my problems are behavioural or physical. It'll be interesting to find out when I get this hospital appointment. Still no word on that yet.

Sorry about your phobia! I'll try to reduce my regurgitation talk, haha.

Really happy that you had a lovely experience eating out, gotta! [emoji5] Something to aspire to, for sure!!

I attended a wedding today, which was quite a challenge. They had a lovely buffet, and I had some cheese, a slice of salami, three or four cracker, and fresh fruit (strawberries, blackberries and raspberries). I probably didn't get much Protein, but I think I was basically a good boy. 🙂

Lol, now it sounds like you’re eating like me.
I like putting 3-4 bites of multiple foods on my plate rather than 1/2 cup one single food.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
