mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

Just using this thread as a running list of my medical/dietary commentary and questions. lol.

Called the doc to move up my appointment since I can't eat and he did an emergency endoscopy today. He said everything he can see looks fine. He said he made my pouch twice the normal size and bypassed more intestine than he normally does "in case" I ever need a revision so he has extra stomach to work with. That kind of annoys me. He said it puts me at a higher risk of ulcers, which I developed. I don't really understand why he doubled the size of my pouch. I still get stuffed off 3oz though.

He is removing my gallbladder on the 22nd. Pre-op I had a lot of gallstones, polyps, and calcification, so he hopes removing it will get rid of the nausea. It's bizarre though because everything makes me sick. I never, ever have high fat food. Even 0 fat stuff makes me sick. I hope it helps.

GI Swallow on the 7th to see if there's a small bowel stricture he couldn't see in the endoscopy, but he doubts it.

In the meantime, I guess I just feel sick for 3 more weeks and hope removing the gallbladder helps? I really don't want more surgery... [emoji53] I hope I can make it 3 weeks. He said if I can't bear it anymore to go to the ER and they will do emergency removal.

He said I'll still lose weight because of how much more intestine he bypassed? I'm going to ask him if that means mine won't stretch to "fit" 4oz like others normally do because it already is 4oz. I h

  • I can tell you I had my gallbladder removed like 20 years ago. But I totally got attacks no matter what I ate. Fatty or not. They didn't understand it. Even salads with no dressing did it. It was mise

Yup, sepsis is no joke! The Universe looks out for us...this is definitely a prime example of that [emoji1360]
So true!! I'm so so glad they found it. No wonder you have been feeling like ****. Glad now you can work on healing. How has work been about you taking off?
So how is Sunday going for you? Are you pretty sore? How does it rank pain-wise with the last surgery? And when do you get to go home?

Heyyy! I got home a noon today. So, it turned out my gallbladder was so inflamed it had fused to my liver! I also had a hernia, not another ulcer specifically. The area where the intestinal junction meets under the new pouch had developed a hole in it. He said most people retain fat there but if you lose weight weight, sometimes those sutures separate before healing so he fixed this hole. I just took a 5 hour nap. Basically feels like a cracked rib and some muscle soreness on my right side. Can't wait to see the brutal heparin injection I get this time. lol! I havent eaten in 74 hours so tomorrow I'll experiment with some food! Tonight is rest and water.

Sounds like a very good thing they took your gallbladder. I had such relief when they took mine. Hope food goes well and you will now have a new normal!

I'm glad to hear your problem was solved. Wish you quick recovery. Take a good care of yourself and keep us updated on your progress.

Hope you are healing and feeling much better!

this is really weird to me. aside from the pain of where the gallbladder was, all the nausea is gone. i don't feel any restriction at all and i am ridiculously starving. i have to train myself all over again. i had 4oz of oatmeal super quickly, inadvertently, but had no ill effect. it's like the pain was keeping me on the right path. i hope i get some fullness cues back.

Wow that is so crazy! And your gallbladder was FUSED to your liver?! :51_scream: How does that even happen?

Ya know I found this weird, tiny set of eating utensils on Amazon when I searched for bariatric stuff. They're supposed to help you eat tiny bites compared to regular sized utensils. Those and special plates for sorting your food into mini portions. I'll definitely be getting those because I hoover my food. They're pretty cheap too. You've got this though...just like you did the first time :783_heart_decoration:

Yeah it was just so inflamed it started to mesh into my liver. He said it must have started doing that years ago, normally it just pops right out.

Ironically, the pain helped me eat like I was supposed to. Now I want to shovel everything into my mouth. I just need to learn to ignore the hunger.

Poor thing...hopefully it'll sort itself out. Your pouch is still new.

Had some severe dry-heaving again yesterday and nausea. I think it was from a strong pain killer I took, however. I have eaten about 8oz in a week and dropped 10lbs. I feel pretty weak. Still off work til Tuesday. Just don't wanna eat or do anything.

It's important to take time and heal and rest.
