mousecat medical/dietary saga thread

Just using this thread as a running list of my medical/dietary commentary and questions. lol.

Called the doc to move up my appointment since I can't eat and he did an emergency endoscopy today. He said everything he can see looks fine. He said he made my pouch twice the normal size and bypassed more intestine than he normally does "in case" I ever need a revision so he has extra stomach to work with. That kind of annoys me. He said it puts me at a higher risk of ulcers, which I developed. I don't really understand why he doubled the size of my pouch. I still get stuffed off 3oz though.

He is removing my gallbladder on the 22nd. Pre-op I had a lot of gallstones, polyps, and calcification, so he hopes removing it will get rid of the nausea. It's bizarre though because everything makes me sick. I never, ever have high fat food. Even 0 fat stuff makes me sick. I hope it helps.

GI Swallow on the 7th to see if there's a small bowel stricture he couldn't see in the endoscopy, but he doubts it.

In the meantime, I guess I just feel sick for 3 more weeks and hope removing the gallbladder helps? I really don't want more surgery... [emoji53] I hope I can make it 3 weeks. He said if I can't bear it anymore to go to the ER and they will do emergency removal.

He said I'll still lose weight because of how much more intestine he bypassed? I'm going to ask him if that means mine won't stretch to "fit" 4oz like others normally do because it already is 4oz. I h

  • I can tell you I had my gallbladder removed like 20 years ago. But I totally got attacks no matter what I ate. Fatty or not. They didn't understand it. Even salads with no dressing did it. It was mise

Mousecat, you must have some secret compartments somewhere, we both have Tuesday appointments. And our stories are still being written, but neither of us planned on the plot twists we have had. But we're in this to the finish, whatever it will be! Hoping for a Good Tuesday, I'm sure you are too.
Mousecat how did you get along with your Tuesday doctor's appointment? Been looking for an update!

Well I didn't get to see Dr Needleman Tuesday but I did see Valerie his Senior Nurse Practioner. She is happy I look healthier even if I only lost 2 pounds since December, said I will just have a slower trek because of the TPN but I will still, regain my momentum. Endoscopy is still on for the 25th, don't know it will solve any questions. Woke up this morning with the right subcostal pain, Dr Noria said that's my ulcers romping and stomping in there. I made chili night before last, it was pretty fine, but I heated some up for me in the microwave. And after 10 minutes it all came back,up. Valerie said I should be on Stage 4, and my mind says " You can handle it, just take it slow", it's writing checks my body refuses to cash. Precious says " Oh no you don't!" and I'm off to the races again. I asked if I will always be a Gastric Cripple, they all say" Of Course Not" but I just aren't so sure. This feels like it has gone on FOREVER÷ They say I might still be healing inside. My blood work is turning out very very good except my iron is low, that's something they can't enrich my TPN with so I will need to get some iron, I think I read the fumerate variety is best, don't know how much it would cost at Wally or a drug store, or maybe I need a prescription from the Doctor. Are your bowels doing any better for you? That seems to be your trial thing.

Just did my 3 month labs today. Had some steak last night and 2 hours later starting puking up tons of snot and spit. That went on for about 45 min, and then a LOT of undigested steak mush came up. I guess it was stuck somewhere. Surprised it still cane up after 2 hours.
Other than that, doing fine.

Recovery from the gallbladder, pain wise, has been much worse than the bypass. It's been 3 weeks and I am still sore on my right side. Hard to lift things and I get tired fast. He fixed the hernia in there too so that's also healing I guess. I'm going to give it one more week before I resume exercise.

Okay so ya'll know I suck at protein. My daily averages range from 10g to 50g, with an average of about 30g a day. My labs already came back and all protein-related labs (and all of them, actually) are totally normal. I am also gaining muscle mass. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Like, am I still okay on low af protein? My iron is also pretty high (like, high as in above normal high). So many questions. But I guess it's a good result. Followup on the 5th..

Late to this thread- but wanted to offer some encouragement. From my own experience, the time between discovery of stones and removal of gallbladder was about six months. Diet modification staved off attacks at first, but eventually everything caused it... even going totally fat free. Gallbladder surgery for me was a breeze comparatively, but I was like 22 when I had it done.

Hope you feel better soon!

They saw I had stones pre-op but said it wouldn't cause any problems because they were giving me Actigall. WRONGOOOO. The gallbladder removal for me was rough because it had embedded into my liver. I ended up going to the ER to have it out instead of waiting for surgery day because I couldn't stop vomiting every day. That was on the 5th and I still have some sore spots. Definitely more painful recovery than the bypass by far. BUT, it's over with so I'm all good. lol!

It's good I went early, too, because the bariatric surgeon saw my intestines had separated at the new juncture. O_O

Oh wow! Glad you are on the mend! Has the sickness stopped now that the gallbladder is out?
