Vets- at 2+ years post op HOW do you eat?

After reading a thread in another forum here, I thought I'd check in and see HOW everyone eats 2+ years post op!!

I am 4.5 years post op and currently doing nutritional ketosis but seriously thinking about switching to a more 'bariatric' style eating with higher Protein, lower fat and a few more starchy things (like some Beans or a bit of squash) every now and again...

I have also FINALLY embraced the need to move and get active so have started doing some muscle building.

But, in the meantime i'm curious- how are YOU eating these days? Regular diet? Keto? Paleo? Bariatric/low carb? Diabetic diet? Cal controlled?

I am almost 4 years post op RNY and I don’t eat anywhere close to a bariatric diet. I am a runner and triathlete now, so I eat quite a lot of carbs as fuel for athletic performance. I work closely with a sports nutritionist who struggled mightily to get me to break from my obsession with Protein and embrace the carbs. I have to eat about 6-8 meals a day to keep myself properly fueled, which is a bit annoying but a small price to pay. I am not able to tolerate much sugar or fats (ice cream, pie, cake, Cookies, brownies), but otherwise eat whatever suits me in the moment LOL.

My sleeve doesn't tolerate bready things or Pasta very well, but other than that I eat what I want.

4 years out, I had gained a total of 25lbs since my lowest weight.

This last year I was working out 4x per week but could not lose weight. I was becoming very discouraged and trying hard to not let it get me down.

In August, I started intermittent fasting, it has been very slow, but I've lost 7lbs and I love it. This is a way of eating that I can stick with. I still work out 3-4x per week.

Working out has to be part of any program I do- I realize that now.

I’m 4 years out and one year ago I was at 123 maintaining well. I adopted a vegan lifestyle for many ethical and moral reasons. I dropped to 109 at first while I was learning many of my Meal Replacements and because my restriction is still so strong. But I started plant based Protein Drinks again just to help supplement and now I’m well balanced with an endless menu of Protein rich foods and back to 120. It’s the best decision I’ve made for myself besides the surgery.

Great topic! At 3.8 years out I eat small meals - balanced. Some carbs but mostly veggies and fish I do eat really really good chocolate and drink a glass of wine 1 to 2 times a week. I stayed in my 5 lb window until an extended arm lift a month ago and now I am up 9 lbs so until it is back Down more traditional sleeve diet and no wine... Agree exercise is key for me too.

I am 2.5 years post sleeve. I did the high Protein recommended diet for 2 years. My weight crept up 14 lbs around year 1.5 to year 2 from my lowest. And I am not convinced that a diet high in animal protein is healthy long term. So, I experimented and am currently doing a whole foods plant based diet. My weight has stabilized, but still trying to get it to go back down. Greens are helpful for me and too many nuts have been an issue that I have had to address. Using Forks Over Knives, Chef AJ, Engine 2 recipes and watching lots of videos on wfpb. Dr. Michael Gregor is a favorite of mine. I also have been reading about studies done by Dr. Ornish, Dr. McDoughall, Dr. Colin Campbell, Dr. Esselstyn, Dr. Garth Davis (Proteinaholic) is a good read also. Still learning, but I think I'm at a good point now.

I'm three years post op and tend to stick to high Protein, low carb and moderate fat in the main - I am quite active and workout pretty much every day but have found numerically my weight has increased due to the changes in muscle mass over recent times. I still have Protein Shakes post workout as my body seems to quite like them and has settled one in this routine.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
