October 2018 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 10/8 (it was bypass but that post is so quiet... [emoji852]). Hoping to get discharged this morning. I have had no urges to consume anything but I'm making myself drink some warm decaffeinated tea right now. I just cant wait to be in my own bed!

Hi. I had my surgery yesterday. Just got the ok to start sipping 1oz cups. Have to hold down 4 in an hour. Can’t wait to go home. Pain and sore...yes but worst part is nausea. My body dry heaving.. also exhausted. Of course I’m wishing I didn’t do this. I want to feel healthy bit I’m tired of surgeries. If this doesn’t work, I’m not doing anything any more. I’m just cranky and want to go home.

They're making you drink 4 ounces in an hour, the day after surgery? Monsters. It took me DAYS to get to 4 oz/hour.

Be strong.

My surgery is scheduled for October 17, 2018 and I am currently on a liver reduction diet and I've cheated several times, and drank alcohol once, and taken aspirin and ibuprofen. Are they gonna know? And will they still do the surgery? I'm worriedemoji45.png

Aspirin and ibuprofen (and naproxen and basically every pain medicine except Tylenol/acetaminophen) are super dangerous within a week of surgery, both because it interacts with blood thinners and because it impacts your stomach lining. My team wanted me off them for 10 days before, but 1 week is the minimum. If your surgery is on the 17th, you can't have any more of them. If you do, you need to delay the surgery. My team did allow Tylenol the week of surgery, so if you have pain, try that.

The cheats and the alcohol have to stop, too, immediately. More than a week before, eh, we're human. But within a week of surgery, no, you have to follow your team's rules. You've got one week to make your liver as small as possible. A large, slippery liver makes the surgery more risky, because it gets in the surgeon's way.

It's a week. (And then another week or more after surgery.) You can do it!

Really? I’m just trying to do whatever I can. I’m finding I do better with warm liquids.

The first few days post surgery Bone Broth (hot bone broth) was all my pouch wanted. It's going to be a lot of trial and error, just take your time and experiment with what your pouch tells you is OK

I ahd my surgery on 10/4... does anyone else chew food and spit it out, just to get some taste and chewing going on??? GAWWWDDDD this is so hard! I want to punch anyone who says this is the easy way out right in their judgmental noses!! My poor kids are feeling the wrath of my hanger... I have never salivated over the thought of scrambled eggs before.

The pureed food stage sounds like a dream come true at this point. Anyone else in the same boat as me?

Omg yes! I’m on puréed this week but basically still on liquids. I’m so ready for real food!!!! Seeing my NUT in a few minutes to discuss some options. I need food!! And it’s not even that I’m hungry physically, it’s all mental. I just want food lol

I was just sleeved yesterday . I get to go home tonight. I’m so nervous that I’m gonna fail. If chewy and spitting makes you mentally better, don’t beat yourself up.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
