Is it possible to build muscle after the sleeve? I'm about to find out.

  • Popular Post

A bit about me: I had the sleeve surgery in December 2017 period. I've lost a total of 181 pounds since last May, and now I'm looking to gain some muscle mass. I'm currently sitting at 225lbs pounds and 6'2.5" tall.

So many unanswered questions of not been able to find good responses to. Things such as how to start eating any calorie surplus now that I want to add muscle. Will I be able to eat enough to add muscle? Follow me on this thread and I will track my journey for any others that may follow the same path.

Starting status:

8/17/18 - 225lbs

I know it is possible to gain muscle after the sleeve. About 4 to 5 months out, my endocrine system went haywire. I was getting worse at The pre-programmed workouts on my treadmill (eventually just sliding of the back). Then I could no longer stand from the step stool I sit on to wash my dog. I had to push myself up with my hands. I got referrals to many specialists, but everyone basically wanted to wait and retest. Meanwhile I was gaining weight. I joined a gym and started in a beginner class. I go three days a week. I have regained most of my strength, and I continue to make progress. I started the gym in December and missed one week do to illness in February. It took me another week to get back to where I was before. I have 15 lbs left to reach my goal weight, but because I lost so much muscle, I am rethinking that number. I am more concerned with getting all my muscle back (it is nice to watch the scale go down though). For informational purposes, I have never had a problem eating, getting all my protein, or water. My last labs were from when I was sick and basically still out if wack. Thyroid not normal A1C still at pre-diabetic, and they put me on a diuretic for high blood pressure. Also, my protein was low despite over 100grams per day. .

On the plus side, I feel better and my hair is growing back. Maybe the labs will catch up.

I'm still around, but haven't been able to work out in about a month due to recovering from plastic surgery. I have about another month or go before om cleared to work out.

I haven't been very active on here as I'm a little salty that BariatricPal's Mexico hospital screwed me out of a $1,000 deposit after their surgeon left their company. I don't want to get into that in this thread, or the admins will just delete this thread like they did the others where I've discussed it.

I've surprisingly had no pain at all. It's more just general soreness and tiredness as the body is using all its energy to heal. The hardest part has been trying to just stay at home and do nothing after I've gotten so used to a lifestyle of activity and exercise. It has been much more mentally tough than physically tough.

@oldbriannomore Your a beast brother. Look great. Hope to one day come close to looking that good.

@BlueCrush Good to see and hear from you. Congrats on the plastics and gotta say looks great so far. Good to hear the pain is minimal and Happy Healing!!!!

keep on grinding and you will get there!

Blue! Killing it brother.

I am 3 years post and have been powerlifting. This is after 2 years of doing OCR! I think we need to start a bariatric strength group!

The stats: HW 356, CW 214

Lifts: Sw - 315 Bench - 205 DL - 405 (also going for the 1000 total. First comp in 2 weeks!!!)

Did my first strongman comp today - 200kg silver dollar deadlift. Nearly got 220kg but lost balance?

Skips - traditionally in the big money comps they were filled with increasing amounts of silver dollars and last man standing took them home!
