I was wondering how many women who've had the sleeve surgery have noticed a change in PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) symptoms post-surgery.

I've been having hormonal issues for over a year now and I am hoping the surgery will help.

I too am interested in this. I got sleeved 8 days ago, and there's definitely no change yet. But I also am expecting it to take months before I see an improvement in my symptoms.

I have PCOS, and after either bleeding non stop, or not bleeding for a while, I finally had my first normal period in a really long time last week. I am 3 months post op tomorrow. I can feel my body working in a way I haven’t felt in a long time :)

Hi I am currently EXACTLY in that (bleeding nonstop or not bleeding at all stage in my life lol) its been like this for me about 7 years now. I'm happy to hear that you've made progress and I'm also very happy to see that you're in California just like me! I just turned 25 and I've made the concrete decision to now have the gastric sleeve. If you don't mind me asking, what was your starting stats and where did you get your operation done? Also did you self pay and if you don't mind me asking how much did your operation cost all together. Thank you (:

I've never had excessive hair, probably being Nordic in nature I guess...I have PCOS and for the last 10 years I've been on low dose birth control, that's a long rear time to be without a period. My hormones have been wonky regarding my mood and related to PCOS, I've not had to take metformin anymore, never noted a difference that medication made anyway. My body 10 months out is still trying to find the new normal, I lift weights and have always been active even 60 plus pounds heavier I think the last 30 some odd pounds are being stubborn because of my meds and PCOS or all of the above. I do need to start having periods again normal ones...I also had heavy periods constantly from 13 on. As I got heavier I had worse symptoms. At some point in the near future, I'd like to be off birth control, I'm single and not sexually active so why bother?

I have PCOS and I have seen much improvement with my periods right after surgery.

This year before surgery I had only one period and it was at the end of March, it was very heavy and caused my blood hemoglobin to drop from high normal (had blood test a month before my surgery) to anemic (blood test done when I was admitted in hospital).

Then I had surgery on April 20th and was taken off metformin.Got my period on 5/1, than on 6/2 and on 7/6 and all that without any meds!

I decided to try laser treatment for hirsutism, went to clinic which has a medical grade diode laser (Lumenis Desire) and had two treatments for now (plan to have three more) and the results are very very good.

My bet is to have existing hair follicles lasered off and hope that my now more balanced hormones wan't cause new ones forming.

Hey! Sorry I totally missed your response until now! I have Kaiser, and went to my first “Options” class in November, and finished in February. I met with the surgeon at the end of April and had surgery May 2. My total out of pocket cost was only $655. My weight at the beginning of my classes (Nov 2017h was 289, surgery weight was 262, and my current weight (8/12/18) is 220

Do you mind if I ask how much those treatments have cost? Do you have to grow the hair out in order to have them lasered off?

Where I live (Eastern Europe), one treatment for chin and neck area with this laser (Lumenis Lightsheer Desire) can be found for 20 euros. I can see on realself.com that in US it is much more expensive.

You can not wax it or pluck hair with tweezers 6 weeks before treatment, but you can shave it off. I used to shave it daily unfortunately (it was such yucky feeling having to do it :( ) and just used thick foundation with very good coverage. After two treatments, I start noticing some very fine hair growing 4 weeks after my last visit, but it is not as noticable and doesn't bother me nearly as much.

I'm the OP of this thread and wanted to check back in to share my experience since being sleeved.

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago and I already notice a difference. My skin and hair have stopped being oily and I no longer have issues with hot flashes/sweating. My hemorrhoids disappeared immediately after the surgery. And I got my period on time for the first time in ages. It lasted 3 days with only half a day of serious cramping. For about 2 years now I've been dealing with not getting a period at all, and then having a period that wouldn't stop.

I am genuinely impressed so far.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
