As the doorkeeper of Stricture city, 3 EGJ post my RnY surgery, at least another scheduled, probably. on Black Friday, if the biweekly rule still holds. This will be my lifetime 6th Endoscopy, 1 done itranasally by my ENT, 1 by General Surgeon in Mount Vernon, 1 by gastroenterologist in Mount Vernon and the 3+ at OSU with my lovely (and she really truly is , she's really Arab-Canadian, but think a Desert Princess!) Dr Sabrena Noria. So a veteran , I am! I can tell you basically NBD. I have had worse indignenties wreaked upon my body, both awake and inert. And due to a miscalculation on the anethesia/sedation amount, as a redhead we require a tad more. On October 26th I was alert, NEVER fell asleep, watched it all on the monitor. No I was still numb from throat gargle spray you gargle, then swallow it done, so I didn't feel the. e-tube go down, I did though feel it extracted, less discomfort than a Jackson-Pratt removal, yep had one of those back shortly after Drs J&P received naming rights. Really fascinating, better than 90% YOUTUBE videos, recent ones seem to be one step above Crap.
And remember Club Stricture is a very exclusive Club, few things ge5 past US!💓love 😝and smiles. your Frustr8

My dinner. I work at dominos so I just brought bacon and Brussels sprouts, avocado oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder. Flaked onion, and Parmesan cheese. Mixed it all together and put it through our pizza oven 1.5 times and it tasted amazing

So I’ve been way off track for the last week with my eating. Not following my rules. So today I’m getting back on track starting with a 5 day pouch reset diet.
Then back to Keto because it was working.

And Megan I wonder how all the Summer 2018 people are doing 3 to 6 months out. Seems like, people get their surgeries and then just fade away. Hey people We Want to share your Triumphs Too!😛📦😛

I am still here lurking and posting from time to time when I feel like I can contribute, today I decided I needed to clean out the fridge and instead of making my husband have two or three of my 1/2 cup bowls I had to attempt to eat them and promptly made myself sick. Guess I got what I deserved I know I can not eat that much that is why it is in a 1/2 cup bowl in the first place.

Many of us have been there, being the Family,Garbage-Can sent me right into the surgical presence of Bradley J Needleman MD. I was always, good at eating the dishes too little to refrigerate. I cheated Rubbermaid and Tupperware's budgets single-handedly daily. And Thank God and surgery that those days are behind ME.

Now I pack in little bowls and I still do not want it to go bad. It all has to be eaten and I use a baby spoon to eat with. Tomorrow will be two months and I am down almost 60 pounds

I have not posted in ages and all was going good til yesterday. Went on my first long hike and ended it with major dumping syndrome. I mean bad news. I even got an extra added bonus of my extremeties going completely numb for about 15 minutes which sent me into a panic attack. Horrible experience.. So been resting today and eating cautiously.. I had not even eaten anything sweet or naughty before the horrid event.. all in all been happy and down 35 since 9/13

I’ll throw in my two cents. I’m a summer surgery (July 25). I’ve had ups and downs along the way. Promotion at work (yay) but the dark shadow of depression lurks around every corner (been on medication from 2010-2017, until I found out gym worked better, and is way cheaper!).

Since surgery, I am happy to announce that I’m 57 lbs lighter physically, and add a hundred emotionally (on good days).

Being post op, even with all the weight loss, takes a toll on one’s mental health. With all my research pre-op, I didn’t realize this. Is it just me, or did anyone else struggle emotionally?

I think you are very correct, the toll was undisclosed but it was and is still there. IT REALLY ROCKS YOUR 🌏World to its core!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
