Please tell me I’m not the only one!

I am 5 days post op and these protein shakes are not cutting it!!!! I want something of some substance even if it is peanut butter or cottage cheese! I am so tired of drinking sweet things and am actually hungry. Surely I am not the only one, right?!

Churchgirl, I would honestly resist eating those more rich foods until at least 10 days. Your sleeve needs to heal and to SEAL. Digesting those more solid foods I would imagine puts more stress on the digestion process in your small stomach than it should while its trying to seal. Try making home made Soups, blending the heck out of them and then staining them (take out the meat). The flavor is very savory if you put nice seasoning in them. After 10 days you can have all the stuff you are eating now. Stay away from full dairy until after 10 days

I am 12 days post op and only now regaining energy since I can have more substantive things to eat. But I am also a diabetic so perhaps I would get tired more easily anyway. If you can go back to work after 10 days when you are eating more substantive foods maybe you would consider that so your energy would be more up

Each plan is different. Not all plans require soups to be strained. Mine plan for instance was full liquids once discharged from the hospital. The rule was anything that would go through a straw. So I made soup, pureed, but did not strain. I was also allowed yogurt, pudding, and other very soft foods during the liquid stage.

So just because your surgeon requires this program does not mean that others will stress their stomachs or threaten the "seal". As long as everyone follows their surgeons plan, it's all good.

You’re definitely not the only one. My nutritionist had me make smoothies during the liquid phase and allowed me to had a bit of PB which really helped. My fav was banana, milk and some sugar and salt reduced peanut butter.

I sipped on a lot of protein broth. This stuff is amazing. Great creamy, savory flavor. You can buy it at Walmart.

I do smoothies all the time now, practically everyday, with protein powder. I can see you are post op, just not how far. But, for that other OP I’d be careful introducing fruit until it’s allowed. Just because it’s blended fruit, doesn’t mean it won’t cause distress on your pouch.

Oh I’m not going to break the diet. I fear having complications too much. But, at 10 days I can have puréed foods as well such as tuna and cottage cheese and I am stoked!!! I am just ready for savory foods. I’m tired of eating sweet stuff. I tried some broth last night which I liked prior to surgery but cannot do now. I have been drinking sugar free Gatorade for the electrolytes because I don’t want to get dehydrated

I'm the same, i hate sweet stuff! I'm way more of a savory person! I still drink my two protein drinks a day, but now i get to add my savory tid bits during the day and dinner which gets me through! Good luck, you're almost there and it gets better!! :1312_thumbsup_tone3:

I am 6 days out and I am not hungry at all. It’s crazy how this surgery works with your body! I think of food but I don’t desire it or feel hungry! No pain and incisions look great! This experience has been smooth so far! Far less than I ever expected!

I was the same way, your appetite will return at some point. But enjoy the easiness while it’s there. Congrats on being off the bench!
Are all you feeling better as we get ready,to start a,new week of June? Are you still feeling all alone?

I didnt read through the whole thread but I was CRAVING peanut butter after surgery and I absolutely love it.

So basically around a week postop I stopped drinking shakes and started making peanut butter protein pudding.

Sugar free fat free vanilla pudding, skim milk (lactose free because im lactose intolerant), vanilla whey protein (lactose free because above) and pb 2 peanut butter powder.

I literally ate this stuff all day every day. It was amazing at the time, but after a few weeks of it I got so sick of it I couldnt eat it since.

But it got me through the early times extremely well

I’m feeling the same way. Hungry and disappointed. I just had my sleeve on Wednesday and never expected to feel a bit of hunger. I am drinking propel, having beef broth, sugar free popsicles, etc. and all I can think of is eating “real food” instead. Is this just a “head hunger” I’m feeling?

Pleasedontjudgeme I was starving after about 5 or 6 days. I am now 16 days post op and am allowed to have soft food so I tried some cottage cheese which was delicious but after about 3 bites I was done for! I still crave pizza like no other. We just have to have the will power to overpower those wants because they aren’t needs. I can promise you this though- it does get easier! Hang in there darlin!
Thank you BrookeR!!

I personally only had head hunger at that stage. Four months in, I still have little physical hunger. Others have had physical hunger from the beginning though.

The thing about head hunger is it feels real! I really never understood that presurgery. Now when I feel hungry I have to think about what type of hunger it is. If it's only for something junky, it's head hunger. I have to think if I had a trigger, TV commercial, smell of food, or even writing my grocery list, if so, it's head hunger.

Also, are you on a PPI? Like Rantadine or Omeprazole? A growl-y acid-y stomach feels like hunger as well.

Hi all and BrookeR,

I'm new to this forum :-)

I had my surgery in June 11th and I'm in my 6 day post op today. I was already on full liquid diet on my day 3, as instructed by my dietitian. She didn't want me to continue with clear liquid diet once discharged from hospital. I have been given sample meal plans and that makes it a little easier on my side.

Day 3, I had low fat sugar free yoghurt, sugar free vanilla ice cream, home made chicken soup (strained) and protein shakes.

Day 4, my aunt cooked chicken and mushroom soup for me and added some cream in it (strained it of course).

Day 5, she made me potato and beef soup. She pureed it until it turned into a delicious thick soup ( like applesauce texture).

I'm sticking to my yoghurt, protein shakes and ice cream still but adding new item to my diet each day. This really helps me not to feel frustrated with my liquid diet. Plus, I'm a savoury person, I do not enjoy sweet things.

My aunt has been a tremendous help in preparing my meals and my greatest support. Today, she is cooking chicken and egg soup and almond milk Jello for me.

My 1st post op appointment with my surgeon and dietitian is on June 26. By then, my dietitian is hoping that I have started with scrambled eggs.

Lastly, I'm not on any pain meds since discharged. I was borderline diabetic pre-op (no medication) and my glucose reading has been great since post op. I weighed 244 on surgery day and today, I weigh 224. :-)
