I am feeling up a bit. Today I bought new pajamas in a size 2X -- I started in a 5X. That feels like some progress!

That’s a HUGE improvement! Congrats!

Hello all I started at 313. I had surgery on May 15th and I’m currently at 253.
Wow! That is incredible for only a few weeks! Did you lose a lot on the preop diet or before?

Hi lovely ladies!

I'm about 9 months post- op. My starting weight was 343 pounds and I'm around 203 pounds now. So I've lost 140 pounds in total. My BMI was over 50 when I started and it's now 29-30, depending on my luck on the scale each morning.

When you start at a higher weight, you have to lose a lot of weight before you go down a size. I've gone from a US size 26 to a US size 12-14.

I've got yucky arms. My stomach is still HUGE and what's left of my boobs are hanging around my belly. RIP titties.

To get to a healthy body weight, I would have to lose a little more than 50% of my original starting weight. I don't know if that's possible. I would like to lose another 20 pounds or so. That would be enough for me, even though I would still technically be overweight.

My VSG honeymoon phase is the same as the ladies who start with only 50-100 pounds to lose in total. So I feel extra pressure to get. it. done.

I feel like I’m in the same boat as you! I hope I’m a 12 though when I get down to 200lbs! That would be amazing. My stomach is also huge still and my boobs are gone. I’m thinking 180lb would be an amazing first goal. I’ll probably sob uncontrollably when I hit Onderland tho. Congrats on the huge success!

@ashash I did! On the day of surgery I weighed 273. I’m sorry I don’t know how to reply since they have updated this site. Lol

I started out an 40H and now I am a 38F, the boobies are going FAST, oh and they look more like quarters in a tube sock than breasts. I know I am heading to silicone valley when this is all said and done. I doubt I will have enough left to even make a nice B cup when all this is over.

My weight loss journey started with me at my high weight of 308. On day of surgery I was 270 and now I am down to 241. TWL = 67lbs. I was wearing a size 26/28/3x but now am down to 2x in most everything - depends on the style. I am 10 weeks postop now. I am struggling with only losing 29lbs since surgery. I feel like it should be more based on what I see others losing.

I started at 326 and was on my pre-op diet for one week. Day of surgery I was 316 on Feb 28. As of today I am 255lbs. After my one month check up I became a steady gym goer, but last week I became a bit lazy. Very excited to go back and push myself and hopefully hit 100 lbs down in the next month. I can definitely feel and see the difference

Nice! Btw on the app, you just have to hold down on the post you want to quote. It takes a sec or two.

I'm right where you used to be and hope to at least make it down to where, you are now, and then see what happens after that. Funny I always thought I'd be built good about,190-195. but maybe from what you described, Hmm I just wonder. Still that promise of smaller sizes is quite beguiling, deflated boobs and batwing arms. and a belly like a deflated balloon not withstanding. But you are alive-er,and healthier than you started, if I promise not to join and run through a nudist park, may I please still grow down. and join you, there?👉😣👈

Lol! Come join me! I don’t mind if you run through a nudist Park! We’re losing weight so we can live our lives on our own terms!!

I think it’s really hard to know what your goal should be. My family is convinced this is the thinnest I’ve ever been, but I did get to a lower weight on the scale a couple of years ago. I don’t know if 10-20 pounds of my current weight is just loose skin (when you start at 340lb+, there’s loose skin), also our bodies change and redistribute as we get older. That’s why I’m less worried about BMI calculators and more about being comfortable in my own (rather loose) skin!

I can totally relate to those who can't figure out why they aren't in a different size--I've mostly been wearing the same clothes all along. I've thrown some pairs of pants away for loose waists but figured they'd gotten stretched out. I ordered new pants in 3x and realized when I put them on that, hallelujah, I could have ordered 2x. But after losing 78 pounds, I should bloody well hope so! Shesh.

Have lived the last month without a scale so I have no idea what's happened, really. Am just hoping I haven't gained. I need the scale for accountability, I know I do. So will buy one soon, I think. Like so many things, I have a perfectly good one in storage I can't get to. Please, all the angels and saints, I need an apartment!! (With an actual kitchen.) Just sayin'

Thanks hun! I know you’re going to have huge success! Being a US 12-14 feels amazing. I am tall though (so I’m not suggesting others can expect to be there at 200+ pounds). I can get into size 12 or 32 inch waist jeans and they seem so tiny to me now.

I’m anxiously waiting for Onederland! It’s funny because I was losing like 6-8 pounds a week after my surgery, so to me, 3 pounds sounds like nothing but I lose weight much slower now! I miss the rapid weight loss days!

I don’t know how you’re handling not having scales or an apartment!!! I have to have my environment perfect to cope with the struggle of post surgery life! If I didn’t have a kitchen, I would eat all my meals out!!!

Hi Ladies,

My highest weight was 318 and was at 264 the day of surgery. I am now 232 at 9 weeks post op. I have to agree with a previous poster that sizes dropped slowly at first but now are dropping quickly (10-15 pounds is equalling a drop in size verses 40 pounds plus in the beginning).

I really didnt start noticing a difference in my body until people started to comment and even then, I really wasn't seeing it. It only really started to sink in when I emptied my closet and tried on all of my clothes and seeing how large they looked for it to properly click.

I think for women it is harder to lose weight in our middle sections so its not surprising that most of us have seen most of our weight loss in our upper bodies and faces. My weight was evenly distributed but aways had a bigger lower stomach which is shrinking but at a much slower pace.

It's the same journey regardless. Just some bigger people are able to lose a lot more faster in the beginning. Other than that there's no difference.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
