Summer 2018 Surgery Buddies Check In Here!

I would love to make some surgery buddies now so we can go through all the pre-op requirements together and stick through surgery and beyond. Anyone else already know their surgery will occur this summer?

My surgery is going to fall in the July or August time frame. Most of this is dependent upon checking all my surgeon's boxes, the rest is dependent upon my financing since I'm self-pay. I'll be getting the sleeve.

I love my surgeon and feel really lucky to have found him. So far the pre-op stuff has gone smoothly, but I am just at the beginning stages. I've scheduled all my evals and classes and attended my first weight loss class last week. I found it to be mildly helpful. It was certainly geared more toward those that hadn't already read through the surgery binder and/or those that had no clue what healthy eating consisted of. I'm hoping future classes focus more on the post-op eating.

My first visit with my PCP about this surgery is next week as that's the soonest I could get in to see her. I'm hoping she'll be supportive as my surgeon knew of her when I told him that's who I see. But if I have to find another PCP so be it.

My first dietician appt is next week and psych eval is the week after that. I only have to get these three meetings out of the way to schedule my surgery. So I'm anxious to get that done!

I'm excited to hear from others along the same timeline as me!

so I had my bypass done yesterday and let’s just say last night was what I would believe to be the worst pain ever, but day 2 and feeling better, have to stay an extra night in hospital and I just can’t wait to be in my own bed
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
@wittymommy that’s good to hear because i was told up to 3 weeks.
Oh alright my peeps final with my surgeon is on July 18th it’s happening everyone I’m gonna wear out the track final count down by Europe and work my little butt off
4 more hours on my last day at work before my leave begins. Surgery is on Wednesday. The anxiety is kicking in!

Good luck!

I had my nurse refresher class yesterday. I also had my final weigh-in, 40 pounds down! They gave us sample meal plans and all kinds of info about what to expect. On Friday I have my appointment with anesthesia. Then I think reality will set in.

HI Everyone!

Congratulations to those who have had their surgery already! Good luck to those who are coming up this week. :)

I've got about another month and a half to go. Trying to plan work around my leave has been tough. I work in public health (specifically maternal/child), and summer is our busiest time of year with all the new births! I'm stressed, plus our offices are moving about 2 weeks before my surgery. Feeling a bit overwhelmed.

So far, I've been doing well with my eating. I missed workouts all week, though. My kids are both sick, so I've been trying to rest in between taking care of them. I made it a point to get up and do a lap around our building every hour though, so hopefully that's giving me a little bit of a boost.

Ok - a few things before I go back through the thread and catch up.

I really HATE this message board set up.

I hate that I can't add a link to my signature for the member list.

I hate that I can't update the first post on this thread with a link to the member list.

I hate that on the mobile app no one can see any signatures so no one can even see the URL for the member list.

Did I mention I hate this message board set up???

Oh and, I hate that all of a sudden the option to change the color of my font disappeared! GRRRR

I'm going to try and remember to post the link on every single one of my posts from here out so everyone can see it. The whole point of the list is for everyone to access it to see who is having surgery around their dates and hopefully connect with each other so I'll do more to promote. :)

(Thank god I have a vacation coming up because work is making me crabby!)

@Auroragirl4489 @Luzbella - I've added you to the list, but I didn't see where you may have an estimated date. I you think you know when it might be scheduled, let me know!

Dumb question but what list? Also I don’t know if got added to it but my date is August 23rd for the sleeve. ☺️

I've added you. :)

My surgical coordinator called to confirm my surgery date. July 30th 6 am. I start my 2 wk liquid diet July 16th. I will have it at the Roger Williams Hospital. Bariatric founder and director doctor Dieter Polh is doing my surgery. I’m very excited! Thanks for adding me to the list.

Gotcha!

Just a quick update: I’ve gotten the green light from psych and the nutritionist, attended the first 5 months of appointments, 2 support groups meetings, have an EGD scheduled for August 9th and my 6th month appointment July 24.

I still have to lose 13 more lbs before I see the surgeon otherwise I’m told he’ll tell me to try harder and come back later. ? I’ve checked so many boxes off, this just seems like a slap in the face and the hardest one yet. Still hoping to get my RNY before the first day of Fall.

I think you should ask your surgeon to allow you to weigh in naked. Clothing is good for at least 2-3lbs! ;)

Sorry to hear about the pain. I don't know why hospital beds are so uncomfortable but they are the worst! Hope you get to go home soon!!

I’m 2 mo post op BS.
I am loosing a lot of hair.
I was told to take Biotin.
Anyone have info on this?

I have heard that Biotin may help, but really it's all about how your body handles the stress of surgery. Biotin is supposed to promote growth of all hair so I've also heard that if you have even the slightest bit of PCOS or hormone levels that are out of whack Biotin can increase hair in areas where you don't want it!

I don't think there is any easy solution. :(

Day 10 of the pre op diet. This forum is so awesome and informative. I went in today and talked with my surgeon. Asked him all kinds of questions about pain management, gas, discharge, etc.... He was very good at explaining everything, which totally eased my mind. He was also impressed with my list of questions, which I must thank each of you with giving me insights to your experiences. I was feeling very anxious about my upcoming surgery (July 3rd), but after my visit I feel so much better.
My last day of the pre-op diet and the eve of my surgery! I’ve been doing pretty good today. Less dizzy spells, headache is gone, I was able to prepare my mom’s lunch without feeling nauseous from the smell of the food, AND I’ve finally stopped being sad about the chewing thing, progress! lol. To everyone on their pre-op diet, stay strong! To everyone with dates coming up, I’m wishing you a speedy recovery. To everyone who has had their surgeries already this week, also wishing you speedy recovery. We’ve all got this! ?

I hope everything goes ok tomorrow, I'd be excited, anxious and driving everyone nuts lol I have a couple more months yet (thanks hubby) but I know everyone has our backs and we are rooting for you. Hopefully no gas pains and lots of water n walking. Take care and let us know how you did =)

Thank you so much! I’m more anxious to get it over with than anything. More nervous about being naked on a table than them cutting into me ???. I will definitely try to keep everyone posted as soon as I am able! And you definitely have support when your time comes. This is the best and most supportive group ever (I’m probably biased because of all of the awesome people here)!
