Let's Play Another Round of "How Much Am I Eating Now?"

Recommended Posts

Oh it was a week ago, I survive but my heart rate increased dramatically and I started cold sweats. No good at all. So bad I didn't even take pics inside the restaurant or even the food ( I only had the tea service)
But here is me prior to the panna cotta incident
I had no clue

Ok guys! This is so helpful to us newbie losers! Please tell us how many weeks/months/years out from surgery you are and what kind of surgery. If you can, list your portions and nutritional averages.

Please post what a day of food looks like to you including any meal with calories (i.e. real food, Protein Drinks, Protein Bars, Snacks, etc).

OK! So excited to see what y'all post!!!

Almost 4 years out sleeve - I'm not going to post my menu - I don't want anyone to think what I am eating in a day is normal.

1988 calories. I try to hit up to 2500/3000 calories (crazy to think you can get this amount of calories in with surgery)

  • Protein 133 grams
  • carbs 214 grams (I'm carb sensitive and up to 144 pounds this morning)
  • fat 74 grams

I am carb loading for a practice uphill trail run this weekend....This is In prep for a half marathon elevation run on the 21st. I fuel differently to sustain the run and keep my blood sugar from dropping. (reactive hyperglycemia from surgery)

After this run I will be back on my plan.

It's difficult to say what I eat in a typical day because no 2 days are typical for me, Yesterday:

B: Premier shake with coffee

s: 3/4 single serving lite and fit greek yogert

L; chicken, pinto Beans, sautéed onions/peppers, with salsa (about 1/3 c total)

S: cheese slice (microwaved) w/ PB powder mix

D: chicken and green beans (about 1/4 c chicken and 1/3 c green beans)

s: 4 oz cottage cheese w/ 2 T sf apple sauce.

I was struggling to meet Protein goals yesterday but today I'm right on track

@Apple203 you will be fine on the cruise, I went February 2nd and did great - you can get an omelet and roasted tomatoes for bf, or smoked salmon - or 1000's of items at the buffet. Formal dining has many great fish or chicken dishes to pick from. Bring your own thermal water bottle and a small insulated bag - to take/bring Snacks with you when sightseeing off the boat - I took cashews and string chesse, etc.

I'm almost 8 week post op. I have to say my daily diet and stomach capacity is vastly different then some!

I'm able to handle 1 solid oz of food, that's it. I'm also never hungry at all. I have cravings, but no hunger. I'm averaging 300-400 calories a day and 40-60 g of Protein.

On days I'm home I typically have 1 Muscle Milk Pro premade shake & a high protein Soup. If I have been out and have leftovers, then I'll usually have one meal of leftovers (1 oz) & the shake. One Chipotle soft taco was 4 meals!

When i'm traveling my protein really suffers. I don't check luggage, so no premade shakes. I haven't yet found a powder without whey (I'm intolerant) that I can stomach. So I usually just try to make good choices when eating out. For example grilled shrimp appetizer, french union soup, eating the broth and cheese, turkey burger, mostly eating the meat, egg white ham & cheese omelette, etc.. I'm nearly always eating with associates or clients, so trying to excuse the tiny amount I can eat is awkward. The good news is absolutely nothing bothers my stomach (besides whey protein)

I talked to my surgeon's PA about this last week, and she said it all seems normal. My neighbor had the surgery w my same surgeon and is now 3.5 months post and has the same 1 oz capacity. So it may be a function of our bougie size. I'm actually really grateful for the lack of hunger and small stomach capacity, it's making this process much easier than I had anticipated.

So one ounce is really a tiny amount! Tonight I had 2 ounces rotisserie chicken, a tablespoon of vege refried Beans, a tablespoon of salsa, and a 2" square of watermelon. It was too much...but it was more than one ounce.

I know! Since I'm not hungry, it doesn't bother me. The only bad part is it is super obvious I'm not eating to all my dining companions

OMG y'all! I am sure I'm just sensitive, but I made my plates last weekend at my sissy's house and used my 1/2 cup measuring cup and sat down with my saucer. And people always looked at it. It felt like they were saying, how can you eat so much? Cuz you know, when 1/2c spreads out...it looks kinda like what a skinny person serves for themselves. Right?

I can only say, I think I'm just fu*ked up in the head. LOL.

Fluff...far more likely they were thinking...OMG, how is she living on so little? My family had a fit at Easter that I was putting like a tablespoon of each thing on my plate. But there were SO MANY good things to try...there was plenty on my plate. My plate was probably over 300 calories and I was freaking STUFFED...but two of my brother were like....Seriously? That's all you can eat? No wonder you're shrinking! I feel bad eating in front of you when you can't!

And I'm like...No, Dude....compared to usual, i'm eating stupid right now and it's more than enough. I'm honestly eating all I want, no need to feel bad. I'm stuffed!

But yeah...we're used to the little portions now. Other people, not so much.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
