Any March 2018 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 3/28 and starting my first full day of Full liquids. Just had breakfast: Decaf coffee followed by Baby oatmeal, 4oz of the oatmeal and 4oz of fat free milk to make it well thinned. Added 1/2 scoop of vanilla Protein Powder for Protein and flavor. It was great to have something warm with a tiny spoon besides broth. Had some Oikos 000 greek yogurt thinned with fat free milk last night for dinner. So far everything I have tried has gone down well and getting plenty of liquids down. Today I'll have my first Protein Shake and work on getting protein intake up to where it belongs. While I resumed my prescribed meds yesterday I am holding off on my diabetes med (glipizide xl) because my blood sugar has been in the low 90's the last two days.

Sleeved 3/27 and have been doing the liquid diet....working my way up to 64oz per day. Have been doing Premier Protein shakes, sf Jello and popsicles, broth and ice cubes. Will do this for one week and then go to soft foods in the 2nd week.

Sleeved 3/26. Had gas pains for a few days. Finished Clear Liquids yesterday and incorporated Protein Shake this morning. Got a severe stomachache about 10 minutes after, is that normal?

going straight from clear fluids to shake seems a bit tough......did you do full liquids in between?

Also you have to sip very slowly at first....be careful. good luck

That’s great advice to take small sips, you will feel when the liquid hits the bottom of your NEW stomach. It’s different now, so it’s like introducing food into your new system. Take it easy, it’s helped me out. I was sleeved on 3/27/18.. We can do this!!!

The question could be any of these: How soon? how much? and how fast?

My doctor and nutritionist cautioned about taking Protein Shakes and even any other supplements before all the nausea fully subsides. The thing they mentioned is that when having any problems with any new intake that doesn't go well wait a week before trying that one again.

I sleeved 3/28 and as to Protein I had a half scoop last night mixed with thinned greek blended yogurt and again protein mixed with baby oatmeal and both went down just fine. Just had a Protein Shake made with Water that went down just fine, but only 4 oz and sipped slowly. But everyone is different.

Good luck!

That’s awesome job, keep up the great work. Your stomach will thank you later, I was sleeved 3/27/18 but I’m on liquid diet with Protein for 2 weeks.

I found that half shakes worked best for me until recently. 12 ounces was nauseating. 2 more week and I hope to leave shakes in the dust and never look back!!

Hey, I like the chocolate Protein Shakes, they remind me of YooHoo! from my youth. If you look it up on Wikipedia the recipe sounds very much the same but without some of the corn Syrup fructose.

Boy has it been rough but it’s most certainly getting easier. I was sleeved March 26th and just started feeling better yesterday. Still feel like I’ve been kicked in the gut by a horse. My doc already has me on soft pureed foods but I’m still mostly getting liquids down. Yesterday I got 86 ozs down with 75 grams of Protein. I also had a tiny bit of pudding and a fudgesicle, both delightful. I still get a pressure sensation when I drink (as soon as it hits my gut) but it passes after a few seconds. Still getting rid of the gas too. Good luck guys, remember day by day.

You are doing great, I was sleeved on 3/27/18 and I guess since it was from band to sleeve it’s been taking a little longer to catch up. But sip sip sip is the word, little by Little we will all make it. Thank you all for support and info on your daily progress.

I’m impressed that you can already get 4oz’s in at a time. I’m still on a max of 3!
I have yet to meet my protein or water goals [emoji30]

Question:

Has anyone that was previously taking Percocet 10/325 3xday for pain for other areas of the body, and now it seems that the Hycet 7.5/325 (5ML) every 4-6hours liquid that was prescribed for post surgery isn't curbing the pain? Or isnt lasting long enough.

Hi sarah. I have a, question [emoji782] I think I know what the hw and sw means. Does cw mean current weight? If so that means you've lost over 32 lbs since monday from your sw to current weight. If so wow. Thats fantastic!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
