Do you consider calling a patient a fat pig a safety issue?

Yikes. If my surgeon had said this to me I don’t think I could have let him cut on me. My surgeon required us to not gain any weight during our six months pre op but I could not imagine him saying this to a patient if they had a rough month!

Actually, my personal reason for gaining weight is that I am a 9/11 First Responder who is on massive amounts of medications and recently had an increase in steroids which increased my weight which was verified with my Pulmonary Doctor.

That being said, Addicts are prone to relapses. Because somebody has a relapse does not mean they don't want to stay clean. The worse thing one can do, is insult and addict. If a person who falls off the wagon and somebody degrades them, chances are they won't try again. Statistics prove that 60 percent of people relapse. It has nothing to do with them not to want to stay away from their chosen addiction.

I am a food addict. However, an increase of medication caused me to hold Water weight which no amount of dieting would get off. I have two issues. Gaining 4 lbs when in the past 6 months I have been losing does not (in my case) mean I am not serious. One has to look at the reason for the weight gain. And yes. If a person over ate doesn't mean they aren't ready for the surgery. Addicts relape. A good doctor would find out why. [emoji6]

Dear Peaches,

I am very moved by the fact that you are a 9/11 First Responder. Thank you for all that you did to serve those in need. I lost a close friend on 9/11 and I am very moved by your response. God Bless You and I wish you all the luck in the world on your journey.

Peaches also works in the entertainment industry...and is also a doctor who writes for medical journals. Peaches also works for the State of New York Health Department. She has done a lot of interesting things in her life.

Peaches January 21: "I am the number 1 Dance Music Promoter. I have documented my journey, have done live videos and am incredibly honest with my artists, the industry and the fans. They are following me every step of the way. I figured I could be honest or risk having untruth's and rumors written about me."

Peaches January 26: " I can give you reading material from medical journals should you like, many written by myself being an expert on the subject having worked for the NYS Department of Health dealing with this very issues and writing policy for over 20 years."

Peaches January 26: "Actually, my personal reason for gaining weight is that I am a 9/11 First Responder who is on massive amounts of medications and recently had an increase in steroids which increased my weight which was verified with my Pulmonary Doctor. "

Contrast this with:

Peaches January 25: "I have had many food funerals. Heck. More than I can count (damn you chicken wings!) . I know I gained weight. Will that change anything?"

Why yes. Glad you are an expert and so interested in me. I don't know to be scared if I have a stalker. Feel free to donate to my 9/11 page. But you can feel free to verify my credentials with the New York State Department of Licensing :) (which has nothing to do with Bariatric Surgery )

And if you are interested in my other occupation, you can check out my Wikipedia.

Or my Website

I am documenting my adventure in Bariatric Surgery for the world to watch, and my adventures is being broadcasted on my radio stations.

Yes, I have done a lot of interesting things with my life. Which has absolutely NOTHING to do with this topic, but glad you are so. interested in my life.

And pray tell. What is your real name and what do you do with your life? Since you are so interested in mine, I would love to learn all about yours :) I guess this is part of the forum. Stalking other members? Would you like my phone number? You are very interested in me. Would LOVE to talk to you :)

Not stalking you, Peaches, just getting a chuckle out of all your creative writing:) Enjoyed it. Your links provided further entertainment. (Particularly the comments on your fundraising page)

Best wishes with your liquid diet....its tough. Take it a day at a time.

When you broadcast "for the world to watch" about your last appointment...I would be very careful about accusing your doctor of calling you degrading names. If you're not being 100% truthful, you might find yourself facing a slander suit.

Wow! I know this has nothing to do with your thread. But I saw you speak at the Hillary Clinton Nomination! Thank You for all that you have done!!!!!!!

Now onto your post. No a doctor never should have called you a name. Yes, we are all addicts. Addictions will never go away. I will always be a food addict. The day I forget that I am an addict is the day I break what I am supposed to do. We are all food addicts. That is the reason why we are in the positions we are in. Why do some people cheat on their liquid diets? It is because we are addicts. It doesn't mean we aren't ready for surgery. Heck. Very few people can stick 100 percent to the liquid diet. Just look at this forum. Does that mean those people aren't ready for surgery? No. Should they be insulted the way PeachesCat was? No. We are here for reinforcement. Positive reinforcement. If an alcoholic fell off the wagon they don't need to be attacked. They need to be supported and to tell them start again immediately.

You can do it PeachesCat. I am sorry if you are still as sick as you are in that picture. Do not let anybody on a forum get you down. You are going to do great and remember. Nobody needs to insult you. Not a doctor or a unnamed person on a message board.

Thank you for your service and your speech with Hillary was AMAZING.

Huh? I am reading posts in order. Am I doing something wrong on a forum? I apologize. Can you please tell me the rules of the forum? Are you a moderator or something? Again. I apologize if I did something wrong.

Why are you trolling this woman who's looking for support? Makes absolutely no sense. Seems you have an issue with people who defend themselves. "How DARE she talk over me and make me look like a blabbering idiot who doesn't know what I'm talking about?!"... at least that's what you sound like in my head. You are bitter and I can't understand why. Also you sound like a spokesman for all the surgeons in the world. God bless you what would they do without you? (Eye roll)

I was thinking the exact same thing. I am also wondering why she thinks I am her, because I just came along. She does seems a little nuts. I did like your statement "You sound like a spokesman for all the surgeons in the world." I think you are absolutely correct. Maybe she works for a medical supply company or something. We are here to help each other. Not degrade each other.

It's easier to help each other...and ourselves...when we are truthful.

But again, to each, their own.

Good luck to all:)

Are you insane or a psychic? How dare you judge anybody on a forum who asks for help. Strangers on a forum who you never met. You think you know a person who is sitting behind a computer screen who you never met. That is psychotic. I feel very sorry for you. I hope you get the psychological help you so desperately need. And yes. Being truthful is easier and I do hope you are truthful to yourself and get help. Good luck to you :).

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
