3 weeks post-op, no weight loss for 2 weeks.

Recommended Posts

Hi all-
My weight the day of surgery was 226.2lbs
Week 1 post-op- I lost 12 lbs

Weeks 2 & 3 I lost and regained the same 1 pound.
I am:
  • Tracking in MyFitnessPal and getting in 60-65 grams of protein/day
  • BM’s are regular and has been very early on
  • Fluid intake is consistently 64 fl oz. & more and has been very early on
  • Portion sizes are from 1 oz. - 1.5 oz. I am eating 3 meals/day and drinking 1/2 Protein Shake between Breakfast & lunch and the other 1/2 between lunch & dinner, drinking Fairlife milk 2% a couple of hours after dinner (supposed to be 1% but it was not available that day in grocery)
  • Calories were previously in the 400s and I have increased this week to the mid 500s
I am getting concerned that it has been 14-15 days with no loss and I will be 4 weeks post-op next week and I am stuck.
I am looking for some suggestions.
Thank you!

I'm not due for surgery for 5 days so take this with a grain of salt. I have seen many many people lament over the "week 3 stall" so it seems you aren't alone. Word on the street is that that you are losing inches during these stalls. Grab your tape measure and see if you numbers have changed. If you are doing everything right it will pass! Good luck!

I hit the three weeks stall...and had been stuck for almost two weeks. Was making me crazy. Totally empathize with those hitting one. Man, it's frustrating!

Got my period yesterday and lost two pounds...and woke up this morning another two and a half pounds down!

Not an ounce for two weeks....then, BOOM!...four and a half pounds. The legends are true!

Be consistent, be patient. Your hard work IS counting...I promise. scale just needs a minute to catch up:)

Thank you for replying!

I have also read about the infamous "3-week stall". The only thing is, I haven't lost anything at 2 weeks post-op in addition to week 3 : /

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery!!!

Man oh man, are you right---totally frustrating. I have PCOS, so I haven't gotten a regular period in > 6 months. And had a heck of an experience with post-op blood thinners and vaginal bleeding OR menstruating last week (I say "or" because the minute I stopped blood thinners, I stopped bleeding).

Thank you for replying and sharing your experience! Fingers crossed my drop comes soon!

Thanks again :)

Everyone say try as hard as you can to increase Protein which is hard but perhaps add Protein Powder to the milk, etc .

Let us know when it does break!

I'm stalled too so I feel your pain

I did not expect to stall this early out and it makes me question if whether or not I will lose the 1-2 lbs/week my team expects us to lose.

I am having a hard time getting to 600 cals/day, but will definitely try increasing my Protein intake, thank you!

Is this your first stall? How far out are you?

Im two months out, but I'm not sure this is my first stall or not as I don't check my weight often, I only found out because I had to check it at my primary doctor appointment. My first goal is to me under 200 so I can get off a Med I hate

So far I have only lost 28 since surgery which seems slow/ low

So I'm going back to bare basics and going as high Protein as possible.

It's very hard to get enough cals in early on I'm still only at about 700 but I realized I was eating too fast (10 mins as opposed to 30 mins ) so I was hurting myself in that area.

I'm going slow picking easy to eat protein rich foods (cheese, yogurt, peanuts, shakes again ) instead of forcing dense chicken when I'll probably won't be able to tolerate it for a while

And trying really hard to get at least 64oz Water in.

28lbs in 2 months is fantastic! That's (3) 10lb bags of potatoes!

Getting under 200lbs is my first goal as well! I totally understand the struggle of getting additional cals in between meeting Fluid requirements, Protein Shake requirements and making sure it's spaced out with meals. I feel like all I do is drink all day.

My meal plan progressed through the stages rather quickly and I was eating pureed ground turkey at day 3 post-op. I've tried chicken recently---chicken thighs and legs and as long as it is moist, I'm good. I know I cannot due chicken breasts for awhile unless it's been in the slow cooker in some sort of sauce.

What I've been doing to make my ground turkey more moist (I do not blend/puree it anymore), is adding a chicken Bone Broth supplement to it (I guess it's like chicken stock) and it's additional an 15 grams of protein and tastes really good!

I am hitting 3 weeks tomorrow and noticed I gained almost a pound after a couple of days. I realized I hadn't had a BM since Saturday or Friday... My liquid intake has been about 50-60oz and I know it should be more. Hopefully after some Milk of Magnesia and more Fluid intake, the scale will move. Have you tried walking more? More cardio might help move the scale as well.

This is exactly what I'm going thru right now! I am at week 3 post op now and haven't lost a thing in the last 2 weeks but that same damn one pound up and down lol I have however lost a total of 5 inches during this stall time. I hope this week the scale shows me something !!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
