I had surgery 12/15 and I feel the same way. I haven’t had trouble getting fluids in except the first 24 hours and I can eat more than I expected. But the nurses and the doctor all said I was recovering more quickly than most so I’m guessing that’s why.

that's great to hear :) like you and KCRN i can get a lot of fluids down too at once...and the surgeon told me I probably had less swelling internally than others...everyone is different. :) I still can only get a small amount of food but I'm good with that...

Did anyone set a recliner up to sleep in when you got home? Can you walk dogs ,, do you sleep a lot after?

sucks about bowel inconvenient episodes .. feel better. , sorry to hear that .. does it stop?

I did sleep on the recliner for the first 3 nights. I was told lying flat could be very painful and I should take pain meds and use lots of pillows so I opted for the recliner instead. I was sleeved on 12/12, and have been sleeping in the bed for the past 5 nights or so (and on my side no less) without difficulties. I did not sleep during the day, I did a lot of binge watching on Netflix, lol. Good luck to you!

Hi everyone, what a great thread! I started on page one and just finished page 25. I was sleeved on 12/12 and have lost 18.6 lbs since then. I am able get in all my fluids and Protein (64oz-64g) so I guess I’m lucky for that.

For protein, my preference is the nectar powder, it’s ice tea flavor and liquid** it is not nectar consistency so it’s misleading by name. U can control how many grams of protein u get by how many scoops u use which is convenient.

Another thing I find helpful for variety is a I take the Progresso or Campbell Soups and throw them in the blender- I am buying the light/ healthy style ones. They have ones that are higher in protein but if u have your shakes it might not matter as much— today I had progresso cream of potato and bacon (lite). The blender puréed it perfectly smooth. For my program, I am on “full liquids” but cream soups and farina are allowed. I am able to drink about 4-5oz in a half hour and I find it pretty filling.

Hope to hear any tips or advice, Good luck to all of you amazing people!

You have been through so much! Whew! !i just realized how to comment on your responses and comments :/! Technology challenges.

Sounds Like you have a big heart. Joel O was good today and I reset my thinking and have had a better mindset and day.

This is definitely an adjustment and the Lapband revision is why I’ve been so adamant since my removal this past August.. my stomach wasn’t too bad., the longer I wait things are going backwards:(... I am a low BMI 30 ... now

Feeling Good and healthy .. physicaly and mentally are our common threads .. not everyone gets the challenges and low or high BMI ers shouldn’t judge.. just support each other through this journey ..

My hopes for you and all of us to hear the good bad and kindness we all need.

I am a bit nervous band to sleeve.. I followed the program on the sleeve but this seems scary that it is permanently even though I was in the lapband for the long haul. I didn’t want it out!

I didn’t know you get staples removed ???

My preop is three days liquid .. one clear. Starting now the dates changed to 28.. so I’ll enjoy the holidays a little bit .. Some food and drinks wise ., definitely am not over doing it! Not worth it ..

i wonderif this is very different than the Lapband? A good decision? My husband thinks just stay as I am .. why take this risk..?

Is there a lot of pain? Do you ever feel normal again.. I’ve lived with the band for 6 years and didn’t mind it must if the time. Well keep us all in the loop on your recovery. Thank you!

I'd go for the sleeve. I hated having a foreign object in me. My doctor said the life of the lapband was 12 years but that most people have problems and the long term results aren't as good. Sleeve yes, it's permanent but there's a year long window of great weight loss.

Hi Everyone, I have had my grandkids for 3 days this week. Winding down and been off of here.
I had my first post op appointment yesterday. Got the staples out!! Plus I've lost 17 lbs since surgery.
I was 14 down for 6 days and felt stalled but kept doing the liquid diet. Then on Monday I got an early Christmas gift of down 3 lbs overnight! This to me was significant. Why? Cause my bouncing board is always 250 and this put me at 248!! It is nice to break thru that barrier. I'm still battling being tired. I need to get to the gym too cause brrr, it's cold here.

Hi everyone, I had VSG on Dec 4th. I'm having a lot of issues with stomach inflammation and irritation and it's been kind of a struggle. I was moved to pureed yesterday, so finally I can eat something that tastes normal. I'd love to chat with anyone out there through any medium and just share the journey/thoughts even if you need to vent.

Hi everyone! I had my vsg surgery on 12/18/17. I’m at home recovering. I had my pcp follow up today and it went well. I’m down 6 lbs since my surgery. The only issue I’m having is sleeping. I had my husband go out and buy a recliner for me to be able to sleep at night bc my bed and my couch were horrible! Plus I usually asleep on my stomach.

Try a hot or cold pack on you tummy at night. Personally a hot pack soothed my muscles and stomach and allowed for much better sleep. It's hard to sleep on your sides for awhile though.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
