hummmm....very interesting. I have gone down about 30 pounds, 60 to go. I made my girls swear that they would not comment on weight loss unless they actually, really, honestly could see a difference. Last week my oldest one said, "Mom! I can start to see your dimples in your cheeks again!" That was the best..it made me feel like a million bucks. I do not need validation for every pound or inch i loose, because it is a personal and slow journey for me. I do however, have the "FAT" best friend that is just dying to know what i am doing, to the extent of calling me up, out of breath, and panting in the phone, because she is in the middle of a work-out!!! Telling me about every 1/4 pound she is loosing, and everything on her menu for every day. It is so weird to me. People notice, they all do, it is just funny how people act towards us! sometimes they dont ask or comment because they notice a lot! and they can't admit to themselves, that you are beeing successfull and they are not!!! go figure!

i like ppl noticing it makes u wana loose more and to continue on hte right track...

But they have to notice just the right amount. It's weird. If they make too much of a fuss, I get embarrassed. That also leads to them saying stupid stuff that I don't know how to respond to. Like "you're going to rock that bikini". I'm a 50+ year old woman with a huge surgery scar down my chest. Even if I don't have hanging skin, I'm never going to "rock" a bikini.

Though the older I get the more I learn to just smile and say "thank you" no matter how strange or outrageous the comment is.

Yes indeed, a smile and a thank-you are the only response I give to anyone brazen enough to comment on any aspect of me - hair, size, clothes...anything.

If the individual follows-up with a how did you lose the weight, or how much, or any other question, a smile, and "Why would you ask such a personal question" shuts their mouth...or leaves it gaping like a fish. Either way, no response is given.

In my case I lost all kinds of unwanted weight - 60 lbs - thanks to the band but the neighbourhood speculation was that I was losing because I was ill. Then, after a year of being banded, I did get cancer! Oops!!! My bad, eh....

But the neighbourhood has found my illness a much more believable reason to lose a lot of weight than exercise, avoiding empty calories and practicing Portion Control - the band being one's secret helper when it comes to the last on that list.

Green - I'm so sorry. How are your treatments going and how are you feeling?

I think there are approx 10 people know at work and after reading this thread, I do worry that a couple won't be able to keep the secret but oh well. Since I need to lose 150ish, I'm not going to tell the number of pounds lost b/c after I hit 100 and am still not skinny-skinny, I don't want the judging. I plan to say, "oh a few" even after it's a lot lost!! And to "how are you doing it?" - say "pushing back from the table"! Then if/when they push me, I'll say, "you've asked twice and I've answered twice." 0:-)

If you don't want to tell folks about the band, just tell them that you are practising Portion Control. In point of fact the band helps us with really only that one thing: it is a barrier against gluttony. What we choose to continue to eat, Protein and Vitamin rich heathy foods or junk, is up to us. I have always preferred real food to junk but I was a real piggy at the table. After being banded, I did, however, overhaul my eating habits. This and finding myself physically blocked from eating the amounts I used to eat made the band a very positive experience for me.

Tapeworm is good.... Do you have a name for the little fella?

Ha - great question!!! As I stated in another post, there's a coworker in my dept that is SO nosy about stupid stuff. Once I begin to lose weight, I'm sure he'll be stupid enough to ask or comment. Maybe i'll name my tapeworm, Rob, in his honor!!!

Until now, I was really outdone with him. With your fabulous question, Green, I am now grinning muchly!

Hubby's being very supportive with all of this.

One other time, I went from 230 down to 180 through diet and exercise and when asked, he said he didn't really notice all that much. WTF??

Now even without asking, he said the other day that when I turned to the side, he noticed my little 23 pound weight loss. I coulda kissed him. Heck, I probably did. But yes, it IS noticeable already. Oh, and a little in my face too. It's one of the last places it goes, so it's the first place it starts to come off.

I have determined through actual experience that I hate it more when people don't notice my weight loss than when they do. :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
