My surgery was 11/28. I’m meeting my Protein and fluid goals fairly easily, but this exercise thing has been killer! I walk at least a mile a day, but any slight hill I’m huffing and puffing! Can’t wait to have a little more energy but I’ll push through it until then and give myself some grace.

Way to go for only 2 weeks out! Your energy will start to come back, and those hills will get easier and easier as the weight comes off. Just make sure not to push yourself too hard in the first month before you are completely healed up. The last thing you want is a set back.

How can I tell if fatigue is natural or from not eating enough calories? I'm exactly 5 weeks out, I'm not exactly exaughsted (I feel pretty good actually) but I have some massive brain fog, like my brain has reverted to a rather primitive state. I'm hitting my numbers Protein wise but idk

Sounds like it could be your body adjusting to the lower calories still. I'm about 4 weeks out and experiencing the same thing!

Hi! I was sleeved on 11/29 (Wednesday) and the only pain I had was from the gas.. I’ve been hit by a car and the gas pains hurt worse than that! Lol. I got to go home Thursday morning once I was able to keep down 12 ounces of Water. I was back to work on light duty on Monday. I work as a correctional officer in a high security prison. The first few days after surgery it took me about 1.5 hours to drink a full Protein shake.. now it takes me 30 min. I’ve had to problem meeting my protein goals, even exceeding them and my liquids. At first I was regretting my decision because I was in so much pain but I am 29 lbs lighter and so much happier and I’m only 3 weeks post op. I can’t wait to be cleared for weight lifting and back to full duty at work! I miss throwing people around lol,

I was sleeved on 11/21. In those 28 days I’ve lost 28lbs. But it’s been a week with not a pound gone. I exercise 5 days a week on the elliptical for 40 minutes at moderate intensity. I meet my Protein goal each day, but keep my calories between 300 and 500 (not on purpose, that’s just all I can fit). I know people talk about stalls, but I’m not even a full month out. I can’t help but feel like I’m doing something wrong.

I got my sleeve done about a month ago and my appetite is suddenly crazy strong. I'm hungry all the time. Anyone else dealing with this?

Hi Amy,

It's possible that you're not eating enough. What is your daily food intake like? What kinds of foods are you eating for each meal?

I wouldn't say it's crazy strong, but I'm definitely hungrier more often. I got mine done on 11/20, and I've noticed an uptick for sure. I find that once I start eating, it goes away really quickly. Like, I'll make a delicious meal that I really want to eat, take two bites, and pack the rest for lunch! I admit though, I got nervous when I felt hungry because I kept hearing that I just wouldn't be hungry at all, and I thought something was wrong. Not at all--just part of the process :)

I wouldn't say crazy but yes my appetite has spiked significantly the last week (I'm 5 weeks out) but my diet is drastically changing this week. Can eat much more and a wider selection of foods now. Will see how this plays out over the next week or two, but I feel like I can eat sort of like a normal person now. Just waiting to add in salads fresh veggies and nuts the next couple weeks

My appetite has increased but I don’t eat as much as I should. I still get as much of my Protein as possible from Isopure and premier so I don’t have room or feel like eating once I hit those 70 grams.

Hi Amy,
It's possible that you're not eating enough. What is your daily food intake like? What kinds of foods are you eating for each meal?

I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast with 32g of Protein, about 1.5 oz of tuna or turkey and .5oz of some veggie for lunch. dinner is whatever I cook my family, so last night was 1.5 oz of shrimp with sautéed peppers and the night before was the same amount of pork tenderloin and some green Beans. Most of the dinners I cook are lean protein and veggies. I’m starting to think you may be right about the calories, as many others have been saying it too. It’s just hard because if I eat more than 2oz at a time I get sick. On top of that I’m never hungry. But, maybe finding a way to add Protein Powder to meals? I don’t know and am open to suggestions on how to add another 300 calories.

I had my sleeve on 11/29. I’m down 24 lbs and onto a purée diet. I’m so glad to be off Full Fluids. I just went back to work today and feel great. I also hit the gym this morning at work. I haven’t been there since my pre op. I’ve been walking at home. The gals there stopped in their tracks and told me I looked amazing! They have no idea I had surgery. I didn’t share with a lot of people.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
