August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

After my doctor pretty much ordered me to lose another 40 pounds during the three-month period ending January 2, I had foot surgery on 10/20, which ended the exercise I had been doing but will make it so much easier and less painful to exercise in another week. While I may not meet my doctor’s goal for me, I have managed to lose 6 pounds since the surgery so I feel really good about that. I suspect the doctor is looking out for his statistics and/or limiting the number of post-op appointments for which he doesn’t charge an additional copay. I will lose the weight on my schedule, not his. I find it much better for me not to weigh daily. Seeing some progress weekly is better for me than not seeing much progress daily.

HW: 299. SW: 257. CW: 224

That’s 33 since surgery on 8/21. And someone asked about loose skin. I have some but not as much as I anticipated. But it has been suggested that slower weight loss allows the body time to adjust to the changes.

I was really just trying to talk to other people about what's going on. Even when this goes "well," it's nerve-wracking and weird.

I certainly wasn't trying to brag, let alone make anyone else feel bad.

Your not bragging, your an encouragement to us all. We all loose differently and hearing other successes keeps us going. Keep us posted we want to hear.

Oh, I'm having a moment where I need people who have been there to "talk me off the ledge". After my rough start right after surgery, (internal bleeding with an extended hospital stay), I've been one of the lucky ones who has lost pretty fast. I'm down 49lb from 247lb before the pre-op diet. My freak out moment is, I weigh myself every Tuesday morning and for the last 2 weeks, I've been only losing 1lb per week. I know it sounds crazy to obsess about it but I'm honestly scared of what is going to happen when I plateau. What if I start trying to binge eat again?

Hang in there! It's all just science and patience. Science... because every time you hit a stall or a slowdown, it's a chance to look at what you might be doing differently, or what you might consider doing differently from then on, to tweak your results. Patience, because sometimes no amount of tinkering will make the needle move and you just have to ride it out.

Are you logging everything? Maybe give your nutritionist a call and see if they have some thoughts about what might be different, or what you might want to change.

The main thing is: you're doing great. Only 28 pounds from goal? DANG. Feel good about that and hang in there!

Have you measured yourself with a tape measure? Sometimes the tape gives you good news when the scales don’t. Try to relax it happens to us all. I stalled for 3 weeks and have now lost 5 this week, I’m sure I will stall again soon. If you feel the need to binge, talk to someone, but someone who will understand.

How is everybody doing in terms of loose skin? I've been pleased so far that even at a greatly reduced size, my belly isn't sagging. It has some positively amazing stretch marks, but no sag yet.
There's a little bit of loose skin at the top of my arms, nothing hanging, but a slight sort of web of loose skin underneath/between my shoulder and upper arm. And my thighs--which were reasonably firm even when I was pretty big--are like ziploc bags full of jelly. That's a little weird and I hope that firms up some.
I guess it's early, so I have to wait and see.

I have an unbelievable amount of stretch marks on my stomach and thighs. So far no loose skin but if I get it anywhere it will be my stomach, which is where I’m losing weight last. The stretch marks are insane though. The more weight I lose the more they show up. I won’t be able to wear shorts for a very long time. Better healthy and have zebra stripes than be obese.

Hi there Augusters! October crashing here, hope you guys don't mind. I had my sleeve on 10/27 and now it's that time that I can start introducing eggs and some flaky fish. On the liquids, purees, I haven't really experienced the 'full' feeling so am looking to you pro's for any advice on what to experience/do better when I transition to solids. Am a bit concerned about messing it up so any insight from you guys who have recently done this would be much appreciated. You all look great, congrats!!!!

Don't worry! You will know the full feeling. I feel it in my esophagus. Try to eat slowly.

Tomorrow, I'm going to go into my boss' office to discuss logistics around getting off work early at 3pm on Mondays (offsetting the two hour early departure by coming in 30 minutes early Tuesday-Friday) so I can attend roller derby practice on Mondays as well as Saturdays. Wish me luck?

I've had a cold/cough this week and it's really slowing me down. I went to a movie marathon Saturday and I didn't want to ruin the movies for everyone, so I bought a bag of Ricola sugar free cough drops. Over the course of about 6 movies, I ate about twenty of them. Thing is, those are sugar free, but they have a bunch of sugar alcohol in them it turns out. I realized this the hard way, way too late. Sugar alcohol, as you may know, is pretty much a laxative. I will spare you the details but it was a rough 24 hours there.

So, I went to my areas of focus meeting today where we established five goals (both personal and professional) towards my growth. One of them was to get fit and I asked them if I could get off for roller derby practice at 3 on Monday and she said YES. I didn't even have to debate for it or convince her, she just said yes! After all, I need to be sure I have 30 billable hours of work each week but considering I can make the time up by coming in 30 minutes early each day.

I love my new job so much. :)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
