August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

I ate something too fast this weekend and felt like I was going to die. I feel that I have lost more but my husband (who I made him do this) is not permitted to let me near the scale unless its Tuesday.
Other that that, I feel great! I have some of my energy back and then a some.
Question, how do you know you have overeaten? Is it kind of like when you are watching the TV and have a bag of chips and the next thing you know its gone? How long after you overate did the hurtful feeling come?

When I overate it was under 5 oz of food (I'm allowed 6) and it was literally from one bite to the next. It wasn't pain per se but this fullness in my chest and throat like I could literally feel the food backed up. I get more pain pain if I eat too fast, this was so uncomfortable to the max and it was nearly instant.

That totally happens to me to, especially with chicken, and I only eat it super moist. Sometimes I wonder if my esophagus is too tight from my hernia repair and I need to get it dilated. I'm nervous to go see my surgeon bc I think he will just say, "you're eating too fast or taking too big of bites." I am trying to be super conscientious with my eating so if I do need to go talk to him, I can be sure it isn't "user error."

That is totally how it happened for me. 1 Bute I was good, the next in pain. It was super intense pressure in my stomach and chest.

Well, seeing your surgeon is important because you're fearing the worst case scenario. Best case, you've helped to diagnose a problem and hopefully, it can get fixed.

If it helps ease your mind, I didn't have a hiatal hernia so mine wouldn't be too tight from a repair and we experience the same thing. Don't be nervous to ask your surgeon (or his PA/NP) if you're really worried.

Like 2 weeks out from surgery, on a Friday night I realized I suddenly had a stitch protruding from my incision and it hurt. I knew it wasn't an emergency but 1. It was the weekend and 2. I needed someone to ease my mind so I paged the on call surgeon. I'm glad I did because 4 weeks out it's still there.

I've lost 1.5 kg in 5 days - it seems the stall is over, if the weight loss says at this moderate pace I'll be happy.

I stalled around week three too. Saw the dr today for my 5-6 week post op visit. Down 48.8 lbs since started pre op diet. Managing about 3-3.5oz of a turkey burger or chicken now. Still struggling to get the Water in but overall they were pleased with my progress. Hoping my stall doesn't revisit.....

I think stalls happen and we just have to face them. I upped my Protein and broke mine in 4 days, I am still pretty early on, 3 weeks tomorrow. But I totally stressed it too. I am down 20 lbs since surgery. 36 since preop diet. I don't see it myself but my clothes fit differently and my hubby sees it.

I have enough data to confirm that I've beaten last week's inexplicable weight gain. Over the past few days, not only have I lost all the weight I gained over the previous week but as of today, I'm at a lower point on the scale than I was the day before the gain started, being down 0,4 kg (0,8 lbs for the Americans here) from my lowest point and down 1 kg (2,2 lbs) since yesterday.

I think mine might have been Protein related. Over this past week, I've been tracking my protein intake and noticed that now that I'm tracking my numbers and being very intentional about my protein and Water intake, the stall was able to break.

... Also, on another note, I was at King Soopers the other day and saw protein-infused water in the diet/exercise supplements section of the store. I was intrigued to try it out but considering it's $10 for four bottles, my attitude quickly shifted to "screw that".

went to my 6 weeks post op appointment. I am 60# down from pre op and from the last time i saw them 1 week post op 8/17 i am 18# down. they said weight wise going good but i need to tweak my habits to be more on their program. by that i need to eat much slower. wait 30 min b/a for drinking. weigh my food. eat more often and not wait so long. not take Water pills as often and ease up on the laxatives. the biggest one they want me to change is to not weigh myself everyday. that one is hard. i asked why sometimes i can eat more sometimes than other times and they said not to compare to what other people are eating but eat until im not hungry not till im full.

That's a terrible piece of advice. What if you don't have hunger cravings? I know after my surgery, I don't, so that would be woefully irresponsible advice to give.

that response was because i felt like i was eating too much. my problem though i can go all day especially on the weekend and not eat all day but then later i feel hungry and a couple times over ate. so she told me to try just 2 ounces of something throughout the day so i dont get to that point

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
