August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

This day 5 post op and I still have a little gas. I've only been walking at home. My biggest issue is the right side of my stomach hurts. I hope you start feeling better soon.

I was sleeved on 8/22. I had a horrible reaction to the anesthesia and threw up and dry heaved for hours. Thankfully I was still in the hospital, so they kept adding anti-nausea meds to my IV. By the late evening, I felt much better. I still had gas pains in my chest, as well as coughing up some phlegm, but that was most likely due to the breathing tube.

I've been home now for a week and am having trouble drinking enough Water ... or anything for that matter. I've been using a timer set at 5 minutes and every 5 minutes I take a sip of something -- water, tea, Protein Drink, whatever -- but I really, really feel full all the time.

I've also had some cramps that come along with being constipated. This morning it was horrendous, but it finally resolved itself (as it were!). I've gone poo twice since surgery. I personally can't understand how I can have a poo when I'm only drinking liquids, LOL!

Good luck to us all ... it's tough but definitely worth it!

I was sleeved August 21st by Dr Ilan in Mexico and I feel like mine is almost too good. I was in pain when I first woke up but since then I have been walking and no issues. I got home last night and finally feel, all the gas is out from the surgery and general flying. I have not hit my goal with Water yet but I don't have to sip, I can drink normally, my stomach just gurgles a bit. I do have hunger pains, right now I am sating them with broth and Protein water. I got 46 ounces of water and 47 Proteins so far today, went for a nice walk and am feeling great. This makes me think I am broken and it did not take, between the ease of swallowing, the hunger pains, and the lack of pain or issues. Anyone else?

I was sleeved 8/7 and my recovery has been easy like yours. I only felt hunger pangs when I was dehydrated. I was drinking 32oz of water for a day or two and I felt awful--exhausted, moody, and starving--but I did not feel thirsty! Once I got my water up to 64oz, I felt much better. No hunger at all. I had to force myself to drink Protein Shakes. Since moving on to some real (pureed) food, I feel better, even though I don't actually get hungry. My body knows when its starved, though, and so I eat.

So this is day three post op. Still lot of gas discomfort. Anytime I sip Water I feel like I am going to hang. I'm terrified of actually getting so sick. I've only been walking in my home. Up and down the hall. Did everyone walk right away? And how long before these gagging issues subside?

I'm 7 days post op and still have gas. I assume I'll have it till I have a BM. I started walking in the hospital and literally the second I got home. I've been doing 1 lap around the block with my dog and mom and last night did about a mile with my neighbor. I still get these awful contraction like pains in my stomach.

We are also together on the gabapentin. None for two days while in the hospital. Could not sleep at all in the hospital and not exaggerating a bit. I did not get oxy after this surgery either. I did after a surgery a few years back but not this time. No, medical marijuana is not legal here but people recommend it to me constantly.

Ugh sorry for being just another person recommending medicinal marijuana you can't have. I just always recommend it cause my friends think it's so incredible for the various, and completely different things that pain them.

I have to agre with almost everything said here! I was sleeved on 8/21 thankfully I got discharged the same day and spent less than 8 hours total in the hospital. Several days out I honestly was in the worst pain ever from the gas pain, and that is with the Dr removing all the excess gas that he could get. But that was the absolute worst part of the pain, no pain in the incisions whatsoever! I am currently on the liquids only and would truly hurt someone just for something slightly solid that was real food right now! I have about 5 days left on the liquid diet but am ANXIOUSLY awaiting my two week follow up so I can eat something slightly solid! Never thought that I would get so happy just over being able to eat a spoonful or two of refried Beans or a scrambled egg! Overall I am doing well and absolutely do not regret my decision at all! I have lost about 36lbs in less than two weeks so I am extremely happy! I was starting to experience several health issues with my kidneys, a few lymph nodes, sharp abdominal pains that would show up and disappear randomly and a few other issues. They have all disappeared in the past almost month. I am completely amazed! Trust us you made the right decision and will see the benefits of the choice you made! As Dory would say "Just keep swimming!" and before you know it you will be 20-40lbs lighter! Congratulations on you're decision and welcome to the club!!!:D

I just started puree today. I am down 24 lbs and I feel great. I cannot get in the amount of Water I need so my skin feels very dry. But honestly I have very few issues the gas of course but walking and gas X helped. A bit of mental hunger. But once you realize you are not really hungry you can combat it.

I was paranoid I had a fever because I was released and live in LA where it's hot as balls so I felt feverish but nah, I was just hot. So check your temp then you can relax. I was also coughing up phlegm a lot but I hear that's from the breathing tube. It has also stopped. I was scared shitless of returning to the hospital because the beds were SO bad and my ward had a ton of head and neck surgeries so it was all these people on loud tubes who couldn't speak. Traumatizing even for me just as an onlooker.

This heatwave is ridonkulous!!! I'm 16 days postop in SoCal and have been paranoid of getting dehydrated... I feel like I look like a hamster, constantly drinking little drips.

Is it unreasonable that at 15 days post op (started puréed yesterday) that if I eat slow (45 min or so) I can get in about 1/3 cup of egg beaters?

i see people posting about managing one or two spoonfuls of food but if I go nice and slow, I can handle more than that????

i don't want to do this wrong.

That is about what I can do. I have had egg beaters mixed with soy crumbles too.

I took 1/3 cup egg beaters and put in a small end piece of a fat free cheese stick which melted then mixed fully in had that for dinner tonight. 😁

Weight loss seems a little slow compared to others, about 34 lbs since I started my pre op diet on 7/29 but I'm feeling good (except for some constipation) and realize I didn't put the weight on in a few months so it will take time to take off. 👍🏻

Hi I hope you start feeling better. I had surgery on Friday 8/25 I'm still in pain and having issues with gas pain as well. But I have been getting my fluids in and today I was able to finish a whole bottle of Protein shake. Besides drinking Water and G2 gatorade.

I'm starting to feel better now. Having trouble getting meds in though. I am suppose crush then up. The taste made me gag. Walking has helped me quite a bit. I just decided to go back to bed now. Did anyone else have trouble urinating? It seems like I have to sit for 10 mins before it comes out.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
