August Sleevers-How are you doing??

What is your starting point that you have "only lost 9 pounds since the surgery" is a bad thing? According to your profile, you had surgery 14 days ago (by my rough count). From my understanding, if you have more to lose, your numbers might be larger. For example, my pre-operative weight was 144.69 kg (319 pounds) fully clothed. Being almost one week out, my current weight is 139 kg (306 pounds) naked. So, I guess the question is, what are your numbers?

I don't know. Maybe 9 is good. I started out at 299 pounds. On the three-month diet, I lost 28, and on the liquid diet, I lost 14. Surgery weight 257. Now 248. So is 9 good?

Maybe so. Using BMI as a range, a healthy weight range for you (assuming an age of 40) is roughly 45.9 kgs - 62.0 kgs and according to you, you're at 112.49 kg, meaning you have about 50.49 kg to go to meet the top of the range for a healthy weight.

Whereas, my weight being 139 kg right now and my healthy weight range being 54.7 kgs - 74.0 kgs, I have to lose 65 kg to reach the top range of my healthy weight category.

So, you're closer to a finish line than I am!

Ok guys my surgery was 8/30... everything went so well and my one week post op check up is Wednesday. I haven't been on in a couple days since I've been so out of it. My question is how long doe the incision pain lasts. Most of them are not too bad but the one at the very top of my tummy is the one worst... not complaining because I am so happy with my decision.. just wondering how long the pain lasts... thanks in advance

Im actually not taking any meds except for the pantoprazole which I guess is the anti ulcer med. I know I'm not getting in enough Water but I'm really trying I think.
anyone taking the Bariatric Fusion chewable Vitamin? I just started them yesterday. I have samples from my dr and the hospital while I wait for a shipment. Are they 4 chewables a day???

I use bariatric support from Vitamin Shoppe (I'll try and attach a photo). 1 a day and $18.99.

it's normal, I stalled for two weeks (weeks 2 and 3). Got very downhearted. Was really struggling to eat enough calories, have now managed to up it to around 800 a day and have lost a further 15 pounds. 36 in total. Just going into week 5. Don't let it get you down, it will happen - how can it not?

Hello fellow August Sleevers. Hope everyone is doing ok. I was sleeved on August 10th and started purée on 8/31.

1. How are you all managing to get your Water in daily?

2. How much food are you able to get down?

When I eat I feel like my food is sitting at the very top of my throats only after eating 2-3 bites. I don't know if that means I am full or if my stomach is still full of air. What are your thoughts?

I don't feel the need to pee, before if I needed to go, I had to go straight away! Now I go to the loo because I feel with all the Water I'm drinking, I must need to pee!

I am unable to get all my water in but I never feel like I have to pee either.

sleeved on 8th. Just going from puréed to soft. Struggle with Water and know I should drink more. Managing to eat around 800 calories a day, with 6 small meals. Don't have any desire to eat, food doesn't really interest me at moment.

I sometimes get food stuck in my chest, before it goes down into stomach and I end if having to make myself sick as it hurts too much. No problems with food in throat though. Are you drinking water at same time as eating? That might cause it. Good luck and keep smiling x

Ugh, I'm having this issue too LOL. 6 days out and I feel like I have to force myself to to pee, but if I didn't I wouldn't go :(.

Right now I'm struggling with energy. Saturday I was full of energy, yesterday I was dead on my feet and today I'm somewhere in between. I really think I'm trying to hard to get back to normal too quickly.

Listen to your body. If your tired - rest. Only do what you have to do, the rest can wait until your bodies ready.

I too have apnea and the full mask does make some awful dry mouth.... it literally hurts to move my tongue around in the morning

Everyone with full face masks, can you talk to your supply company or sleep doctor to switch to nasal pillows? These are now the number 1 recommendation even in mouth breathing. I used to mouth breath because of apnea, I do great with the pillows and no excessive dry mouth.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
