Anyone else plateau 2-3 weeks post-op?

Recommended Posts

I'm at Day 20 post op and I've been at a plateau for almost a week now. I'm getting enough Protein for sure. Any suggestions? I'm still at the puréed stage of the diet.

Your body has been through a lot. Maybe it's in shock. My experience is once I plateau for a week, I loose a a few kilos the next week.

But if your worried maybe give your surgeon a call and ask. It can't hurt [emoji4]. Wishing you good health.

Yes! My weight loss was going great... until week 2. Hit a plateau right around week 2, and have been in it ever since. Going to be 2 weeks on Friday that I've been stuck at 200. 200!!!! Ugh!!

There are a lot of threads on here that talk about the 3 week stall. It is a thing and sounds like almost everyone has encountered it.

Thanks that really makes me feel better about it. I've been trying to rack my brain of what I was doing wrong and I couldn't come up with anything

It's funny thta you wrote this. My surgery was on August 1st, and I've lost 30 pounds. I know tha sounds like a lot, but it was all in the first 2 weeks. I haven't lost anything since. I'm following the diet, but not losing. I saw my doctor on Monday. He said it happens and not to be concerned. Just keep doing what I'm doing and maybe up the exercise to give my weight loss a boost. I want that scale to move! I feel like I took this major step in having this surgery and now I need results. I'm so afraid to fail at this like every other diet I've tried.

The same with me. I had a check up today and he said it happens. I lost like 20 lbs in the 1st two weeks and then 10 lb the next 3 - 4 weeks. Hopefully next month will be a larger loss.

I'm two weeks out today. I'm a "lightweight" so I don't expect to lose a lot quickly. That being said, I lost 10 lbs the first week and basically nothing this past week. I have noticed my stomach is not as poofy so I'll take that. :)

I have a feeling my stall might be due to Water and possibly Vitamins. My Protein goals are being met with no issues. I do have trouble getting in 64 oz of water a day. I can drink it fine, I just can't seem to get that much in a day. I had trouble meeting that goal pre-surgery, so this is not a shocker. I am also having trouble taking my vitamins, they are chewable and I HATE chewable vitamins. I

I have my first appointment with my NUT tomorrow and have a long list of questions to make sure I'm doing this right.

I'm a lightweight too. I've lost 9 lbs in 13 days. But it was 8 lbs in 7 days, and the last lb has been up and down. Overall, I'm happy, but it's hard not to have a smidgen of disappointment.

What is NUT? I've also had a stall. I lost about 27 pounds in the first 2 weeks and only 3.5 pounds in the last week and a half. This is very discouraging to me. I feel like I eat almost nothing every day but the pounds aren't coming off as quickly as I'd like them to!

I experienced the same thing. I was sleeved 7/12. Stall lasted 2 weeks but I'm finally losing again. I know it's hard not to become disappointed but u will come out of the stall. Just evaluate your diet plan and drink more Water. U got this.

Ok, this morning I made scrambled eggs with some lean turkey and black pepper. I very carefully weighed out 2.5 ounces and my son ate the rest. i'm going to be super careful to weigh everything today and drink Water all day...I need that scale to move. I'm tired of seeing 297-298...

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
