Hey y'all , I'm 6 days post op and I'm a little bored with broth, Soup, and what not .

I see halo ice cream has Protein in it and it's relatively not too bad . Has anyone else spoken with their doctor about being able to eat it ?

Thanks !

I eat it pretty often but I am 2 years out. I wouldn't eat it the first month, or 6 months post-op. It is a waste of calories for the Protein at that point.

I never asked and waited until about month two but ate it. At my 6 week follow up my nut joked I went on a binge one week( I ate 4 servings over a week)she didn't say it was bad tho

I'm many years out. I do enjoy Halo ice cream as a treat.. I just try to limit the sweet treats that I like sooooo much.
However, the 200 calories I Can get from almost a whole pint(!) can fit in my healthy range of calories ... just not too often. And I probably would have some every night if it was in front of me!!! Not perfect ever ... just trying almost all the time.

I didn't start eating Halo Top ice cream until I was more than 2+ years out.

Be mindful that Halo Top has 20+ grams of sugar per pint, which may cause some carb-sensitive people's weight loss to stall and plateau if they eat it during their active weight loss phase.

Yes, I know...one serving is half a cup (4 ounces). However, few people stop at half a cup, especially those who are triggered by treats with simple sugars.

I can tolerate the sugar rather well since I exercise at a vigorous intensity six days per week. It doesn't bother me, but your mileage may vary.

One of the benefits of Halo Top is that you cannot eat it directly out of the carton because of the unappealing texture when it's frozen; you must leave it on the counter for about 15 minutes to warm enough to reach a creamy consistency. This can help with Portion Control if you carefully measure out one serving and then immediately put the carton back into the freezer, so that if you want a second serving you have to wait again.

I didn't know about Halo Top back in 2015 when I had the VSG. I might have considered it. I discovered it a year later when I was already at goal, and loved it at first, then grew tired of it. During the post-op recovery stage I was actually reasonably content because I had fun experimenting with Protein Shake recipes on a blog called The World According to Egg Face by someone who also had bariatric surgery. At the time The Vitamin Shoppe sold single serving packets of their Protein powders (now they don't at my local stores, so you have to get the enormous tubs) and that allowed me to have a lot of variation with flavors. You might want to consider trying out shake recipes so you're not as bored with the monotony.

I think you'd be fine with having Halo Top, but I wouldn't make a habit out of it, or count it as a meal.

I've had it twice in the last month or so when I wanted a treat. I'm almost 7 months out (next week) and 20 pounds from goal at this point and my NUT said it was a good choice for a sweet treat. That being said sugar is not an issue for me and I also made sure I stuck to the serving size. If sugars are a trigger I would avoid it, plus you are so fresh from surgery I would probably wait until I was on regular food as least. It's a nice treat but not something I would eat on a regular basis.

My friend eats it out the carton and I am like what? How? Why?

I put my bowl on the scale, tare it out, add my halo top, and put the rest back in the freezer. I get 4 to 5 servings per container. When I first started eating it I was getting 8 servings per container because I just used it to add a little flavor and moisture to my Protein brownies/cakes.

If someone is just eating it out the carton, sigh...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
