I don't feel like you, but did you ever think your hunger feelings might be indigestion? I was feeling hungry too, then I tried the prescription the doctor gave me for indigestion and now I don't feel hungry. You gotta stop making the wrong choices, don't wreck everything you did so far! Get outside and do something! Good luck!!!

Yep, that's the way to respond to someone who's suffering from depression. Classy and empathetic.

I am medicated for depression and anxiety. I have had several plateaus with my weight loss. I'm 63 down at 6 months, not astounding but decent. food was my coping tool and created vicious cycles for me.
Basics- if it is a temptation don't buy it. I know it is easy to say and hard to do.
Don't drink when you eat.
Walk- get out in the sun. Vitamin D deficiency is rampant with WLS.
Write. Journal your food and how you feel when you eat it. Look for patterns.
Be patient with yourself. Self care is of paramount importance. Emotional upkeep is a must as well as the physical side.
Be kind to yourself. This is a difficult journey. Surgery didn't "fix" any of us- it merely gave us another tool to use.

Even though you are taking an antacid you might want to check with your surgeons office to see if you need a different or stronger med. Feeling that level of hunger is not normal at this point.

Regarding depression, I suggest you get yourself to a doctor or therapist that can work with you and prescribe meds STAT. This is the most important time in our journey and it's important you have peace of mind and your soul is ok. I'm so sorry you are doing through all of this. For me I find the more active I am the more it helps fight the depression. So the other suggestion I have is to walk at least 30 minutes twice a day. That really helps clear out my brain. The sunshine, the upbeat music, the air and the exercise. All those things help elevate my mood.

Dear Amethyst,

Don't beat yourself up. Your body has gone through massive physical trauma and you will have undergone significant hormonal changes - depression is a perfectly natural response - and a side effect you can overcome.

If you can find a therapist - someone who specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) should be really useful if you need help with the choices you are making. Little Lizxie's advice is good to, sunlight and exercise have positive physiological effects that will help boost your mood.

But it's really important not to feel guilty. You've been brace and honest and there are an awful lot of people like you who have the same anxieties and feelings - they just haven't shared them.

Good luck, get some help to make some positive changes and try to think of this as part of the journey.

Like others have said, I would encourage you to talk to someone, whether it's a group setting or a private appointment. You might also consider medication. You're body has gone through many changes in a short amount of time and is trying to cope with all of it. Things that have worked in the past no longer work. I would also look at what it is that is specifically bringing on these feelings, can anything be pinpointed?

As for hunger, are you sure it's not head hunger? That can seem like hunger and can really mess with us. Also look at what you're eating, as you said that you;re hungry an hour later. Could boredom attribute to this as well? I know that at work I sit all day and start to feel hungry but it's really head hunger. I make myself get up, drink Water, and after a period of time if things don;t improve consider a healthy snack. But I try other things first. Sometimes all I need is a distraction.

Lack of the scale moving could be a plateau as those happen. I went 3 months on a plateau that drove me batty. Are you eating the same way everyday? Getting in physical activity? Sometimes your body becomes accustomed to certain things and what you were doing to lose weight no longer works. It's at that point that you might want to consider adjusting what you're doing or eating to see if the change will help rejuvenate weight loss. Search the forums for stalls, and you might find suggestions about what others did to get the scale moving again.

Last, remember what you reasoning was for the WLS. What were your goals, and what have you accomplished since surgery? When I get frustrated I look at old pictures and remember how far I have come. The things that I can do now, and how proud I am of myself.

I am 3 weeks out and I am feeling really depressed and increased aniexty. I have no energy and I feel the same as you like I want to be left alone. I'm not sure why ... I just seen a doctor today and he wants to put me on paxil. I am not much for pills and I am skeptical to take them... I hope the body gets back on track real soon. I hope you feel better and if you need to talk you can IM me ..

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
