Any August 2017 Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

Hi Jessalene,

Premier Protein shakes come in a lot of flavors and I think they taste really good. Along with vanilla and chocolate they have banana cream and caramel. I will mix chocolate and banana sometimes and it's really good. They are cost effective too. costco carries them, and I see them in all the grocery stores too. Another one I found is the Muscle Milk 100, 15g Protein and only 100 calories. They have that in powder or pre-made shakes. The vanilla cream premade is amazing but for some reason really hard to find. I buy from Amazon a lot and the chocolate flavor costs $24/case and the vanilla costs twice as much! So I buy the powder of that. For clear Protein Drinks, someone on this site recommended Protein2O protein Water in the coconut/pineapple flavor. OMG, if u like pina coladas, you will love it! 15g protein zero sugar and clear so perfect post op. I got that from Amazon. Costco has an organic Bone Broth that is also good. 9g protein & 45 calories. Last thing is Unjury Protein Powder in unflavored or chicken Soup. Good for pre and post op. Folks put the unflavored in everything from coffee creamer (sugar free of course) to yogurt. Hope that helps! When's your surgery?

My surgery is scheduled for August 10. Now that I have a date I'm getting very excited about the journey and can't wait to see how my body changes. I'm terrified of the recovery process though.

I'm almost 54. North Alabama. I'm scheduled for Aug.15th. I was told only a 2 day pre-op liquid diet but from all I've read..........I think I'll be starting about a week before. surgery weight will be from 230? Of course the weight loss is something I'm looking forward to, getting off all the medicine is my greatest anticipation and feeling better. Birthday is the 29th so, guess I'll be celebrating with a 1/8 c applesauce/pudding or something :D. I wish you all the best, easiest, surgery and transition into our healthier lives.

My date is August 22. I submitted my receipts at the end of the day on a Friday and received the call with the approval on that very next Tuesday.

Wow nice turn around!

Are you doing a pre-op diet? I have 2 weeks of liquids required before hand. And are y'all taking the full 2 weeks off of work?

Hi! I'm new to BariatricPal and might I say this is a very cool website/app! I'm 21 years old and my surgery is on August 18! I'm super excited and a smidge nervous but it's really nice to get to see so many others going through the same thing as me! My pre-op diet starts on Sunday.

So, over the last two days, I got to check off a lot of things in my programme. I've completed my medical weight loss classes (effective yesterday), I have my psych clearance and I did my last appointment with my doctor today (she gave me a letter pretty much saying I'm medically cleared for bariatric surgery). The next step is a consult with my surgeon and that gets scheduled with the bariatric coordinator at my surgeon's practice. At that next step, I'll learn my surgery date. I'm not sure how fast I'll be able to get in but the fact that I've done everything I could do at this point, hopefully, that gives me an edge against many of the other people needing to schedule their consults.

However, considering many of the surgeons are taking their holidays over the next couple of weeks so I'm hoping I can get in quickly. Hopefully, I'll be an August sleever, but considering I was told at the patient education seminar that I can expect to wait 4-6 weeks after the date of the consult (so they can get pre-approval from the insurance company), my chances of being an August sleever are slipping.

Just confirmed band to sleeve revision 8/15/2017 with Dr. Ariel Ortiz @ OCC in Tijuana Mexico.

Banded 2/2009, had great success. Over 100 lbs lost, exceeded goal. Ran into trouble about a year ago with not being able to get the right adjustment and dealing with reflux. Decided the band has outlived it's life for me and I can't do it alone, so it's the sleeve for me.

My surgery is scheduled for August 21st which is pretty awesome because it is just not long after my birthday. I am a mix of excited because I have waited for so long, but also nervous as this is my first major surgery.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
