Back to basics and really doing it!

I weighed in at 172.8! Two more pounds! I'm getting there! Cutting out the bread, crackers, and Pasta really made a difference. Why do I love carbs so much?! I also went back to an hour of cardio and 30 minutes of weights every day except Sunday for the past two weeks.... I had missed a couple days of workouts the two weeks I didn't lose.

12.8 pounds to goal!!! I'm so scared! Terrified I won't make it. That my body will just quit losing even if I'm doing the same thing. I'm hungry and it's hard, so cutting back lower than 1,000 calories a day.... ugh, I just don't know if I can do that.

I am so glad that I found this thread! I am 13 years out from my bypass and 35 lbs have crept up on me. I just barley found this website. I have support at home but since my bypass I have had no follow up with my Dr (i feel like i went to a meat factory) and no support system there. My regular Drs are not as familiar with bypass so being this far out I have no idea what to do or if I should have anything checked. So since my surgery I have had three pregnancies and 4 kids (i have a set of twins). I was really good with my weight gain there only 15 lbs for my son and daughter and 30 lbs for the twins. My weight gain came after the twins. I started to drink pop again. Big mistake. my portions have increased and my exercise was zilch. I hate the way I look. I feel like I did before my surgery when I weighed 272 lbs. I have set a goal to loose that darn 35 lbs the healthy way with diet and exercise. I am going to cut out carbs as much as I can and have quit drinking soda. I have also increased my workout to at least 45 min every day. I love the fact you chose to do this! I look forward to joining you on your journey.

Current weight 172.4

Goal Weight 140

Thank you again!

@Kathy812 I'm glad you got on BP for some support-- that is what we are here for... We all have low points and I can understand the tendency to be your own worst critic... most things in life don't go to plan...don't worry stick with it and the LBs will peal off!

@fadstabora Welcome... 13 years out without community support must be tough, and soda is a killer for me too, even though I only have a little bit here and there... I'm glad you found us!

So I am back from our Anniversary weekend away, sorry for the tardy check in we got in late Monday night... I'm feeling pretty good and I can happily report that not only was I able to enjoy the weekend because I banked calories throughout the week, but I made it through both birthdays as well as the wedding with just a small increase... I know we are all shooting for NO GAINS, but I went from 231.2 to 231.4... so up 0.2... With all the temptations, I felt like I made some pretty good choices, and didn't feel like I was missing out....although without a structured schedule this weekend I didn't get all my Water in and I know I drank too many calories, especially since I chose to add a packet of sugar to my coffees this weekend.... I am fully back on board with my meal plan as of today, and am hoping without any big plans coming up I can start seeing the scale move like everyone else...I really hope I can get into the low 220's before the end of July.. fingers crossed for some steady losing...

I ran out of Bariatric Vitamins. I'm looking for a complete one where I only need to take one kind.
What ones do you prefer?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
