Well y'all. Today marks the beginning of our 4th week post op. Does anyone have a new phase this week? I was given another list that is basically the same as my week 3 and I've already implemented some of the foods, approved by my nut. Apparently I'm supposed to be having about 3oz of Protein already. I'm am definitely not there!!!! Maybe in about two weeks I might be able to. Anyone feel like they can eat more solids at this point?

sorry it's sideways 😊

Your plan is much clearer than mine. To be honest I have been taking the puréed to mean chew very well before swallowing. I just can't imagine blending my meat. I have been eating veggies most of last week though they weren't on my plan till this week. I only eat a few bites anyway because like you said there is only so much room in our stomachs. I am able to eat at the most 3-3.5 oz total depending on what I am eating. If it is yogurt or cottage cheese I can eat close to 4 oz, but if it is chicken or ground turkey only 2-3oz.

Cereals are added on my plan this week ,but I do not know if i will eat any of them. I have never been much of a Cereal eater anyway. Here is what my week 4 looks like

I am off today and so I have had some time to sit and reflect on my journey thus far. I have been thinking about changes since surgery and really have not found anything to be super tough to adjust too. Really for me not drinking while eating and 30 minutes after has been the hardiest change for me to implement.

I think my environment and a supportive husband has been a key factor as well as having this forum for support. I only have to cook for myself and my dh. He has no problem eating whatever I cook for him and is on board with healthy eating. I have had a few instances of head hunger, but I really think they were just from habits that were ingrained in my mind about what and how much I should be eating. I am in the process of making cardio exercise a daily habit with the purchase of the elliptical machine because I feel it will help with my fitness goals.

What has been the hardest adjustment for you all after surgery? what challenges do you think will be toughest down the road?

Hardest adjustment is head hunger. I think down the road, it'll just get easier. But we shall see!

So happy. I went to the gym. I listened to my body and I had to adjust the treadmill, the pain in my side was present. So I did a real slow, but graded walk for 45 mins. I also made it in to a circuit training, going back and forth with the grade percentage. My legs feel like I did a weight training workout. Exactly what I was going for. So I felt so good after that I decided to try working my triceps on a machine. So as I usually put a weight of 70lbs, I couldn't do it. 😕 So I went down 20lbs and that was comfortable enough. Did 4 sets of 12. Feels great, but I was really disappointed that I couldn't do my usual. I also have to take in account that I haven't done weights for a few months too, so... I did chest presses too, had to go down 10 pounds.

I'm just happy I did something! Got to start small again, but that's ok. I know I'll be pushing that Iron big later. 💪🏽😊🏋🏽‍♀️

Sounds like you had a good workout! I am sure that got the endorphins flowing.

I'm doing well...today for the first time I think I felt hungry! lol I am still on purée foods and am having a bit of a challenge with what exactly to eat...I have been eating the same thing for about 2 weeks lol maybe next week I will venture out and try something different. The scale is not moving but I expected that and hopefully soon it will!

So awesome!!! 26 lbs...and yes, dancing absolutely counts as an aerobic exercise!! Do you have the program Just Dance on a PlayStation or WII or something? That is a lot of fun and it's a great workout. But even just popping in some Latin music, or music of your choice, and moving is all it takes. Does your daughter like to dance? Y'all should have a dance off. 😊

Im happy it all went very well and you're having a great day!!

Are your phases really that long hon? In two months to be able to eat? What have you been eating lately? We can give you some ideas outside of them. Let us know.

Actually I believe this month I will be able to eat solid foods...during my check up. I eat pretty much the same thing everyday...protein shake for Breakfast, lentils with ground beef for lunch and dinner, sf pudding, either sf applesauce or Jello and 1 cheese stick. 40 ozs of Water

Well thank you so much. She laughs at me saying i can't dance. So i dance sitting down and get up here and there to do a little move but then i feel funny like dizzy so i sit and dance again. She loves dancing.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
