How did you handle changing clothing size ?

Recommended Posts

I don't want to run out and spend a lot on clothing until I reach goal weight. The goodwill and thrift stores in my area are lackluster . Since am a stay at home mom I don't need anything dressy except for church . Any ideas?

I was think about maybe Sams club? I have a Target near by but the plus size section is nonexistent .

What did you do ?

Last Spring/Summer I mainly wore Walmart workout clothes around the house. They are great and once you get to regular sizes super cheap.

One caution though, if you keep wearing the same sizes, you feel like you aren't losing. especially in those times when you are not dropping weight but are dropping inches. I suggest even if you can't afford new clothes, to at least go try them on each month so you can see your progress.

I've gotten mostly elastic pants so the waist fits longer like Jennings and yoga / exercise pants. I also got clothes at Sam's club. I'm a nurse and wear scrubs 5 days / week so I also don't really need anything dressy... thank the lord. I have gotten into this concept of a wardrobe capsule where you have just a few pieceds of clothing that can all be mixed and matched. I think this is helpful too as I don't want to drop a bunch of money into temporary clothing.

You might check with your local bariatric center and see about a clothes swap. There are some groups on Facebook too that do that. Luckily, I had several sizes in my closet so I won't have to worry about that for a while. If you have a Kohls nearby, they have awesome clearance sales. I have purchased blouses, pants and even dresses for $6-$10 each. JC Penney has good clearance prices too. I just purchased a blouse for $6.79 and pants for $8.00 in plus size for work. Good luck :)

I haven't had surgery yet, but will next month. Lately my pants of choice have been leggings. I know some say they aren't pants... but I love them and since this brand fits from 10/12 up to a 22/24, I'll be able to wear them to goal. As far as tops, I'll probably by several tank tops and wear one of my covers over it.

Other than that, I know my local bariatric support group does monthly clothes swaps. Check with your surgeons office and see if they know of any.

How often did you lose a size in the beginning? Like a size a month? I can't wait. I was just sleeved on 3/28 :)

Lularoe has been a lifesaver for me. I wear a lot of leggings and Maxi skirts when I'm not working. Unfortunately I have to wear business casual so I've had to buy clothing for work. I wear them until I literally cannot anymore and then buy new ones. So currently I'm a 14-16 but I still wear some 20's with a belt. I also buy 1 pair of jeans each time I go down a size because good pair of jeans makes all the difference. I've gone from a tight 22 to a comfortable 14/16 depending on brand since I began this journey.

I've lost sizes pretty quickly, in the beginning I was loosing inches quicker than pounds. I went from a tight 22 and 2X when I began my program last July. Day of surgery I was in a loose 20 and 1X. Since surgery, 3 months ago, I've gone down to a 14/16 in pants and an XL in tops. I can wear some Larges but they are snug.

Sales. Loft, banana Republic, Old Navy - they often have significant sales where you can stock up quite cheaply.

Sales racks, second hand stores (go early in the morning before they're picked over is my suggestion!), local bariatric clothing swaps, local Facebook buy and sell pages, and buying stuff that will last a couple size changes (for example these stretchy size 12 leggings I'm wearing today fit me at size 14 jeans and will likely fit me until I'm well into size 10s).

I work and so I can't have clothes falling off of me. I get 2 pairs of jeans, 2 t-shirts and 3 nice shirts along with a nice light cover-up jacket. I have now done this 3 times. I don't buy expensive stuff but I do go into the stores, I don't buy online as I have no idea what will fit. lol!

Oh, and I upgrade my undies and bra's MUCH more frequently. Sagging panties are the WORST.

Then once those start visibly being too loose, I go and do it again. I did it for my drop to 22 then my drop to 18/16 and now my drop to 10/12. It makes me feel great too.

I did buy a dress for a funeral. But it's all inexpensive stuff. I don't want to over do it so I limit what I buy but it feels great to wear a new size and feel like you are rocking it hard. lol

I really hate clothes shopping. I went from 270 starting the bariatric program, 226 pre op and today I weigh 212. My size 26 jeans slides off so easily! Yuk. I have a very old size 24 jeans, it fits up to my belly and it won't close. So now I am not comfortable buying clothes if that is going to happen. However, the clothes look ridiculous on me now, they are all big and baggy. So I need to go to Walmart and buy maybe 2 pants since I am not working yet. I am looking for a job.

Funny thing is that my big mama size undies are getting big on me now (remember I had them for a ery long time). My daughter said to me the other day, oh mom, when you get real skinny, you need to wear thongs. Heck, there is NO WAY I am wearing butt floss. I can't think about getting rid of my big momma undies yet. My bras look funny, should I add tissues?

Losing weight is an adenture for me. LOL

I turned to Goodwill and consignment shops. I'm cheap and don't want to spend tons of money on something I'll grow out of soon. (For instance, jeans are 6.99 a pair at my Goodwill.) Also keep an eye out for end/beginning of season sales.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
