Did you have any comorbid conditions when you were approved by the insurance company? Or were you able to get approved with just your BMI alone?

All of my blood work came back good. They said I am healthy other than my weight, obviously. I've been reading up and most everything said you must have at least one comorbid condition, for most insurances to approve bariatrics surgery. I met with the bariatrics center on Tuesday and now we wait 2-3 weeks for insurance to come back with a answer and I am crazy nervous since I am "healthy".

I was approved with only my mom. My insurance says you must have a comorbidity if your bmi is under 40 but anything over 40 a comorbidity isn't necessary

Hon, don't despair, everyone's insureance has their own guidelines. If your Bariatric Center filed the paperwork it is the best way to go because they know exactly what an insureance wants and they know how to word it. Hang tight I know it is easier said than done. Good Luck

Most surgeons state that you must have a BMI of 40 or higher or 35 or higher with at least one co-morbidity. My BMI was 34, but I had slight sleep apnea (I didn''t use a c-pap machine), so I was approved.

I have BCBS of ILL.....my BMI was 40 back in June 2016 went I 1st met with my surgeon. I got approved on that number alone. I have no co-morbidities, so if my BMI had not been at 40 or above, I would not have gotten approved. Most insurance companies require a BMI of at least 40 w/o co-morbidities, and at least 2 co-morbidities if it's between 35 & 39.

My bmi was 39 and my comorbidity was acid reflux (gerd) and i was approved my by insurance. My bloodwork all came back healthy, but i had acid reflux often. I didn't even know that was a comorbidity until I spoke with the surgeon

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
