Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

So, not sure how to handle it when people ask me why?

Recommended Posts

So I am about 5 months post op, I've lost 67lbs.. well I went to a spaghetti benefit dinner for a friends mom today. I wanted to go and show my support and make my donation, but couldn't eat the spaghetti. What was awkward was after I sat down, and the people around me noticed I wasn't eating, even though some people were already done.. so it's not like I was the only one not eating.. anyways.. like 4 people asked me why aren't you eating? I just said oh I'm okay.. and they just sort of looked at me.. I don't feel like I should have to tell every acquaintance my story and why I'm not eating spaghetti and cake? Idk what else to say in a situation like that..

I'd say that you are trying to get healthy so you can't eat spaghetti but came to show your support anyway. That is a great thing to do and I'd hope they are more concerned with the cause than your plate:) keep it simple and act nonchalant. If you don't make it a big deal neither should they

I did have someone ask why I'm not drinking wine though...I told them I have acid reflux. Which is also true.

I also say that I'm eating low carb. No one has ever questioned further.

They probably think you have developed an eating disorder. Let them think whatever they want. When you reach a healthy weight and work on maintaining it, they would know that they were making wrong assumptions.

People in general just need new topics to entertain themselves by. You do your own thing and focus on your health. It used to irritate me so much when people at work would comment on what I am or not I am not eating. I am a grown up and I was over weight. Leave me alone.

It's even worse with our culture because putting food in someone else's plate is not a crazy thing to do and that is what they do. They just fill your plate with stuff and expect you to politely finish it up and thank them. Grrrrrr!

"I saw someone sneeze in the spaghetti, it ruined my appetite." - that'd probably stop all the questions :)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
