Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Just did some real disrespectful stuff!

Recommended Posts

I guess I missed the part where anyone was beating anyone up (aside from a purported counsellor calling someone crass names while complaining about the behaviour of others).

I see people who are concerned about the OPs risk taking behaviour.

I see people who are concerned that many lurkers on this site may read this post and assume that this behaviour is just a slip up, instead of a potential medical emergency.

Where are all the personal attacks some people keep claiming are being made?

We're adults. If your ego is so inflated that even criticizing a mistake you admit to is damaging to your sense of self, that is your issue. Inability to handle even perceived slights is a hallmark of narcissism.

Newbie here and super sad to see this thread. I hope this is Not the norm. Name calling has no place on a forum like this. I believe, if you are going to respond to someone's post take a minute to really read your post before sending. Some things get lost in translation and definitely via social media. Please, there is never a time for using words like idiot, idiotic, dumb...etc. let's be better. Steps off podium...

So here's something that's a little sad to me. Yesterday, the OP @@Anthony74 reached out to me via private message and I feel like we had a very nice exchange. He totally understands where I was coming from and I appreciate the fact that he took the time to talk to me one on one. What an adult thing to do!

Yet, we still have people bashing others for their POV when this really wasn't their "battle" to fight. We've got one chick who claims to be a counselor starting entire threads and hurling out nasty names. We have people using the words idiotic and stupid and bullies. We have people dramatically announcing that they will never ever post on these boards again. (Insert dramatic swoon here).

Why not just ask a question? Start some dialogue? Stop taking everything so freaking personally? Act like adults instead of middle schoolers? This is the internet, people. This is NOT an "us against them" scenerio.

JEEEEEEZ!!!

It's all good! I made a mistake but apparently I'm not allowed to do that. I'm down 53 pounds from October 23rd to now. I tried my body and lost.I posted it thinking that someone would say that they've been there and overcame. Instead, I'm met with angry, non rational comments from people that supposedly is going through the same thing. At the end of the day, we are all human and we are gonna make mistakes. I didn't eat the sandwich because I needed to, I ate it because I've been taking liquids in so well that I was starting to doubt if the surgeon (Mexico) did actually sleeve me. No more no less. I found out that they did do a wonderful job. But if jumping on this post makes you feel good about yourself, feel free to do so. I'm built for it!

Thanks for sharing your mistake because at the end it help other understand why the phase of liquid diet is important and I understand the temptations cause we all have them...hope you feel better and yes I can't wait to move to the next phase myself...

I too have learned my lesson on pushing it. I'm a about 10 days post op. I was so excited that I could have cottage cheese. It tasted so good. I went a bit overboard and was miserable for a few hours. That mistake won't happen again. I absolutely hear you Anthony74!! We will make mistakes, learn, and move on. I guess that's just how it works.

A mistake was made and learnt from.

I made one today thinking I was ready for a soft scrambled egg, wrong. Give it another week. Body not ready for it.

Even if you stay within the rules you will still need to be guided by your body.

Thank you for sharing that my mind was killing me last night about having two tablespoons of cottage cheese but now I won't...this is why everyone's opinion is worth to read so we all can learn from everyone

Thanks for sharing this. I hope you feel ok now. Did you call your surgeon to let them know what happened?

Hopefully people will realize after reading this why they need to follow their post op plans.

Unfortunately, it appears it is definitely the norm for certain users. But you'll get to know who they are though and can just skip over their comments (that worked for me). You can get a lot of good information and positive reinforcements from most users here if you can look pass the negativity. At the end of the day these tools help us fix whats on the outside, but the inside is a whole different story.

Thanks to the original poster for hopefully helping some of us avoid what sounds like a very debilitating mistake.

Wow, 53lbs.. that's amazing! I too have made mistakes and paid for it. Im two weeks post op and tried to eat puréed salmon .. my doc said puréed fish was fine. I felt like I was going to die.. ate it too fast and didn't chew enough. Same thing happened with eggs. I overcame it! Listen some people have to learn the hard way. I'm one of those people too. Constructive criticism is helpful and should be taken well but in my opinion anyone who is pre op really can't have a valid opinion yet. Just ignore them.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
