December bypass buddies

I had my surgery on the 8th. I thought I was going to lose my mind if I had to drink another shake. Went on 12/20 for my follow up and a nutrition class to advance and am thrilled to report that I still haven't barfed and I'm eating poached eggs, cottage cheese with soft canned fruit (in Water, not syrup), deli turkey, and chicken thighs. The only challenge right now is eating slow and stopping when full and waiting until the next meal to eat more.

I lied, it's a challenge to chew chicken and turkey until it is applesauce consistency in my mouth before swallowing. It's worth the wait!

@ I was the 8th too so jealous ... when you say deli turkey and chicken thighs are they puréed?

Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

They are not puréed. I was shocked to learn that our next phase would allow so much! We had to sit in a 2 hour therapy group before we moved on to nutrition. Then the nutrition class was very detailed and adamant about prolonging each meal for 30 minutes, no eating or drinking anything else within 30 minutes of each meal, and stopping the meal when full and only returning for the next scheduled meal (not waiting until pouch empties and continuing which I really want to do most of the time).

This diet started on day 12 for me and in 2 weeks will include toasted wheat bread, ground lean meats, veggie burgers and veggie sausage, and Beans.

Merry Christmas December bypass buddies! This was as far as I could push it this holiday and it was enjoyable!

Mom got me a ricer, so I used that to rice the broccoli and a plain sweet potato. Mashed potatoes were allowed anyhow without chunks. Not a lot of Protein at all, but I did have a little turkey thigh. I'm not tolerating chicken very well so I took it easy on the turkey.

Merry Christmas everyone. 2 and a half weeks post op and down 33 pounds! It's gonna be a Happy New Year for sure :-)

Today I used the pressure cooker to make a delectable chicken thigh / cauliflower / broccoli / onion / potato stew. I cut, seasoned and seared the chicken thighs along with the onions then added a can of chicken broth (plenty of THAT on hand lol). Then sliced and seasoned the potatoes and put them on top. Finally added a bag of cauliflower/broccoli florets which I had already steamed. Added a can of Water, closed the top, and ran the pressure cooker on the poultry setting twice. 1 hour later my family enjoyed full bowls of stew while I helped myself to 3 ounces of cut-up thigh pieces and 1 ounce of cauliflower/broccoli pieces. The chicken was wonderfully flavorful and the veggies were so savory and soft that they just melted away in the mouth like whipped potatoes. Two spoons of broth in my bowl kept the chicken moist but I didn't have the Soup part other than that. I share all this because I finally found a solution to my biggest challenge thus far, which has been the agony of cooking for my family while not being able to have ANY myself. I am SO glad for this electric pressure cooker, I see it is going to be a life saver. And the best part was that the 4 ounces measured out at about half a cup in volume and with the tiny bites it was slightly more than I could comfortably finish.

Everyone please BE ENCOURAGED especially those in the first 14 days post op, I promise IT WILL GET BETTER!!

I am 2 weeks post op and have been given the green light to try whatever I want.., Protein first of course. I was only able to eat a few very small pieces of Protein ( eggs, ham chicken ) this weekend. Thank you for the encouraging words that it will get better. I love the suggestions on this feed!

2 weeks post op today and down 17lbs. I started myself on purees for dinner on Christmas Eve! So far I have tolerated everything well! Yesterday morning I even had some scrambled eggs. Last night I tried some turkey breast (not puréed) with mashed potatoes. About 15 minutes after I was a little nauseas but it went away after another 15 min or so.

It definitely gets better after that first weeks and a half!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
