August Bandsters How are you Doing So Far

Recommended Posts

Hey candle!

It takes me about an hour and a half.

Sometimes I jog a little in between depending on the wind velocity.

I have asthma so sometimes it's a bit difficult.

I really enjoy walking outside verses inside.

I have a treadmill but it's not the same.

It's fall here in chicago so the temp is in the 40's and 50's.

Well, I'm in the same boat as most. I have very very little restriction and can eat ANYTHING!!! :hungry:

My scales have not moved since my last Dr visit!! :faint:

However, I go today at 2pm for my 2nd fill!!!:clap2: I pray this will give me restriction and I will be on the losing side again. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Wow - you're kickin' ass!

It takes me about 40-45 minutes just to walk 2 miles. Half the time I'm dragging my dog because she wants to stop and sniff EVERYTHING!!

I'm in NY and the weather sounds like it's about the same right now. With the weather and it getting dark at 4:30 - I haven't been walking much at all. I need to start walking at lunch time instead. I MUST STAY MOTIVATED!

I think losing all this weight so fast is screwing up my body. I am so cold ALL THE TIME, I just can't shake it.

Thanks candle!

If you walked alone you might walk in the same amount of time as I do.

I'm cold alot too candle.

The walking is such a stress reliever!

I love the scenery, the smell of fresh air and the time alone.

Do you have a treadmill?

I want to get an elliptical but I don't have anywhere to put it right now.

Hello all. I've not been on the post in a while but let me tell you what's been going on the past week for me and what shocking news I got this week. I have been stuck for about a month now at around 30 lbs. I don't have restriction and I'm still trying to figure things out but if nothing else, I am proud of only now consuming about 1/3 of what I used to eat before banding. For 4 days this week I have been attending a Diabetic class with my DH. He was diagnosed last summer of 06. The last 2 days a dietician worked with them on food. The last day of class we ate a prepared meal from the hospital (It WAS SO MUCH and even though I don't have much restriction I couldn't eat it all). Then she gave him a diet plan for him to consume 2200 calories a day. This with the exercise plan they gave him should allow him to lose 2-3 pounds a week. They want him to lose about 25 lbs and to do it by February 4 (his next appointment). Another lady was there who is diabetic and about my age and height so I asked her if I could see what her plan was? She is allowed to consume 1700 calories a day and with exercise this would also allow her to lose 2-3 lbs a week. I was shocked at the amount she could eat! So I told the Dietician I'd been dieting (minus the lapband part) and was consuming about 1000-1200 calories a day and exercising 5 times week alternating weight resistance every other day. I then went on to tell her I'd been "stuck" for about a month. She almost had a heart attack and told me I wasn't losing because I'd put my body into starvation mode and I was not consuming enough calories!!! Of course I am in disbelief but as I tracked what I'd been eating this week I was actually consuming about 1500-1700 and guess what? Today I get on the scale and I had lost 4 lbs. So I'm going to continue another week to see if this is really really true even though I know everyone is different and you have to figure out what works for you. I am scheduled for another fill 11/16 (yes before Thanksgiving-----my family asked me why before and I told them I am not going to center events around food anymore)!! They're amazed , shocked but supportive at the same time on my new journey!!! It is so inspiring to read all of the posts and I can't wait to see where we are this time next year. I know we will get to that goal bit by bit some faster than others.

I think I have pretty good restriction now with 3.25 in a 4. I have slimed 2/3 times. Damn me, have to learn the hard way. How are the rest of you and your fills?

Hey all, haven't checked in for awhile. I was banded 8/7 and from date of surgery I'm down 50lbs. It hasn't been easy though, I had my first fill in september and a week later I had to go have the fill released, I couldn't keep anything down. I waited another 6 weeks for my second fill, which I got on 10/25, I have been having problems with lots of foods, pbing and all, which isn't fun, I get frustrated sometimes because I would like to eat solid food, but it just doesn't do well with me. Soups and mashed potatos are my food and you know you can only handle so much. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not going to say I regret the surgery, because I don't it's just hard sometimes.

Julie

I'll keep everyone posted as I continue to try new and different things to see what actually works for me. I'm thinking she may be right for me anyway because I just can't understand why if before banding I was consuming 3000 or more calories and then dropped to 1/3 of that why I was not losing..............it just baffled me so much. I'll definitely keep you posted!!!

Well it looks like my Quest to hit my 20 days of exercise is going to come to a screeching halt here. About 3 days ago, my teeth went apparently went on strike and decided not to chew the piece of food in my mouth. (Always have to blame it on something other than my brain!). Anyways the food got stuck and a whole lot of sliming and INCREDIBLE PAIN occured. I didn't PB, but I am beginning to think that I should have. Anyways, since then I have been on liquids, but now everytime I swallow something more than my own saliva, it hurts like crazy. So I called the doctor and I have to go in tomorrow. He wanted me to go in today, but I can't just leave my job and drive the 6 hours there. However, I will get a sub for the last two days of this week and then we are off all of next week for Thanksgiving so YEAH!!!!! Trying to find the silver lining in all of this! They are going to completely unfill me and then let my tummy rest for a few weeks. That will be fine cause I will go back in during Christmas break. I don't think for me it will be too big of a deal about being unfilled. I am DETERMINED to get below 200 pounds soon, so no matter how much will power it is going to take, I will do it. I think I have to go back on post-op diet anyways, so I won't have much of a choice. pureed tuna fish here I come! It just makes exercising kind of tough being on liquids/mushies only. Actually the fact that I have only 8 oz of chicken broth all day makes things kind of tough. I have zip for energy. I won't have internet access when I am back in WA visiting the doc so I will fill (no pun intended) you in when I get back.

Salsa, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope it all resolves quickly. Don't get discouraged though. You are doing great and this is just a little bump in the road. You'll be feeling better and back to exercising in no time (and in onederland).

I too am sorry but I agree you'll be okay. We're nearing the end of the year and about to start another one so why not go ahead and make it your New Year's resolve to get back on track (of course hold where you are or better yet lose on your own). We can't wait to hear from you again but will be praying for you as well.

I did something crazy today and got my 2nd fill appointment time mixed up. It was 8:45 but I got there at 9:15 and the doctor had already left. They told me I could come back at 12:30 but I just can't take off like that from work. I'd already gone to work , then went to the appt so I wasn't going to go back and come back again. I decided I'll just wait until December when I have 2 weeks off for break. In the meantime I'll keep on trucking and trying to get that scale to move. Of course, I've not felt very good the last couple of days and not been able to eat much of anything. BTW, do any of you suffer from Arthritis? My back , knees and hip ache like crazy and now that the weather's gotten colder, it is something terrible. I thought I'd feel better after some weight loss but at least not yet. And what's up with being so cold? I get so cold and that makes me ache worse and then when I eat something, I break out in sweats then cold again......................just a crazy cycle. Anyway thanks for listening to my update, saga or vent. This board is so cool!!!!

I'm freezing too - ALL THE TIME! I used to always be hot.

I'm constantly turning up the heat. (and my boyfriend turns it back down - lol)

I almost cried when I got the bill for the oil delivery the other day. How much more expensive can oil and gas get?!?!

Salsa,

Sorry to hear of your troubles. You have been an inspiration to me in my journey so I know you will be fine! Drop that 1 pound so you will be in wonderland for the holidays and get back on track with the fills then.

I know what you all mean about the cold. I guess that layer of fat we've lost was keeping us warm! LOL! Keep the blankets handy or the significant others close to keep you warm!:kiss2:

I love this site and you guys are great! :rolleyes:If I don't get back before the holiday, Have a good one!

Val :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
