Sleeved 07/08- officially one month out today. No pain ,very little gas ,& walking daily. Getting about 80 g of Protein in daily. Only getting about 40 to 50 ounces of Water daily. I feel great, I get really full after eating about 2 ounces of lean protein.happy with the decision I made to have the surgery.

July 21, 2016. Doing well. Think I went back to work too soon. Had to start wearing a binder due to the pain in the biggest incision. It hurts like hades to drive without the binder. I get an empty hungry feeling but it doesn't take much to fill me up. Down at least 18 to 20 pounds. In the soft mushy stage of foods. I'm fixing to add vegetables as I am so friggin constipated! Ordered me some liquid Fiber and stool softener today.

Hi there,

7/27 surgery. Was drinking as soon as I woke up and walking within an hour. I went home about 24 hours after surgery. Been pretty good about getting my liquids and Protein in. Just soooooo tired of Protein Shakes.

I developed a crazy bad pain in my left side last Friday and ended up in ER. CT scans confirmed no leak, infection or blood clot. Doc thinks maybe just some nerve endings waking up after surgery. Thankfully I haven't felt it in 2 days.

Looking forward to start mushy foods on Wednesday. Anyone have suggestions as to what they have handled the best?

For mushies, I ate scrambled egg with cottage cheese in it. It becomes super soft and easy to eat, and I got about 6 oz from 1 egg and a spoonful of cottage cheese, so I would seperate it after into 3 2oz containers for 3 seperate meals. I also tolerated Wallaby fat free plain Greek yogurt with a bit of mushy canned fruit mixed in.

I bought a bunch of tuna, and then realized when I ate it, it tasted super gross, and I used to love tuna! So that didn't work for me. Ugh. Im just glad to be on real food now.

I am 4 weeks out today! Having a little hard time getting in my protien, I'm only getting in about 20 grams. I'm not hungry so that's good. I work daily on meeting my protien goal. I see the weight coming off but I hit a stall at three weeks. I hope it start moving soon. I feel great, no pain at all! So glad I did this.

At 4 weeks out, you should definitely be getting more than 20 g of Protein a day. A shake is 30, what are you eating? Remember you will lose more weight if you eat the protein and work out. Best of luck to you.

July 25, 2016. Had my two week post op appt yesterday and am down 10 lbs. I got to have a scrambled egg last night and it may have been the best egg I have ever eaten! I can drink a lot of Water, but 2oz of egg really filled me up. I seem to be losing slower than others but I feel great and am glad to be on this journey!

Hitting the beginning of week 3/ending week 2. I am on pureed now and it felt like heaven to have some real food no matter how disgusting it looks. I had had it with cream Soups and Protein Shakes, it just made me nauseous. I really struggle to get in that one Protein Shake and I try to get the rest of my Protein in with food. I'm eating maybe 1/4 cup sometimes to 1/2 cup sometimes at a time. I eat slowly, but I definitely feel like I feel hungry at times. Maybe it's head hunger. I eat three times a day but I read in the beginning you should eat four to six meals a day because you're only getting in 1/4 to 1/2 a cup each time but I'm not there yet . I'm probably going to hit the three week stall soon so I'm not even going to get on the scale, it's no big deal to me. I know I'm losing by my clothes. They are hanging off of me. Last I weighed I was 248 about a fifteen pound loss from surgery date. Getting in 60+ protein most days and close to 50 ounces of Water. I didn't get any rest after surgery. I'm a single mother and I had no help so immediately I was cleaning and cooking. I wish I could have rested but I must say I think it sped up my recovery and kept me active because my energy is pretty good now and I rarely have dizzy spells except sometimes at night which could be low sugar, low pressure, or hot bouts. Immediately after surgery I was hit with hot flashes and bad night sweats so I keep water and g2 by my bed at night. It's hard but no regrets!

Had my NUT appt yesterday. Approved for all foods now. She said I am on track! Was told to start increasing calories to 900-1000. Protein 60-80

My NUT said lower fat, slightly higher carbs. That's scary to me because I am a former low carb dieter. Anyone have suggestions how to set goals in fitness pal for P/C/F?

Press on the left three lines, choose goals, then nutrition goals. Also, your carbs could be fruits and vegies. I've seen a number of post op people follow Keto or Atkins type diet plans and do well. Good luck!

My procedure was on 7/28 and had my 2 week follow-up today. Everything is healing as it should. Super happy and staying focused! I'm still on liquids one more week and transition into soft foods for another 21 day cycle. One day and one pound at a time.

Pre-Op (7/14 to 7/28): lost 12 lbs

Post -Op (7/28 to 8/10): lost 16 lbs

Total to date: lost 28 lbs

Hope everyone is evolving to their next step and staying healthy too!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
