42 days post op and I have lost 35,50 pounds! Pretty efficient, but as it was said a few times, it truly depends from one person to another, and the weight loss slowed down a bit, which is normal since I restarted eating a bit more and with more variety!

Thats great that you don't need a scale, but it's how I hold myself accountable. And I like those scale victories!!! Every 5 pounds down makes me so happy. But I don't compare myself to others...that just creates unwanted stress! As long as I am equal or less every week I have a huge smile on my face! And don't forget those NSV, fitting into a new size of pants makes me ecstatic too!!! Good luck and enjoy your weight loss!!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

You know you gain sometimes too, right? And sometimes the scale doesn't move for weeks at a time? I can already tell you're going to let the scale dictate whether you feel successful or not. Be careful. That's a slippery slope.....

Weight loss with WLS is funny. It's not as Fluid and consistent as you think it's going to be. Our bodies are constantly adjusting to the abnormal lack of calories, and it causes some really strange stuff to happen. One thing I've learned in the almost 20 months since surgery is that it's DEFINITELY not as simple as calories in/calories out. It's a constant balancing act trying to figure out the proper protein/fluid/movement ratio to lose consistently. And now in my case, to maintain.

Just sayin.

Just sayin...how can you tell anything about me? Everyone is different. What helps some people doesn't help others. Although I appreciate your opinion maybe you could appreciate mine too.

Yes, we are all different. And your journey certainly won't be exactly like mine. But I do know a thing or two about WLS and how the patterns of weight loss work, and if you think you're just going to drop 5 pounds a week until you hit goal, you're in for a rude awakening.

My advice to you is stop acting so high and mighty and listen and learn from the people that know at least a little of what they are talking about so you have an easier time of it. You've got some good advice in this thread. Use it. We want to see people be successful, and unrealistic expectations and weight loss comparisons usually ends in tears (literally) and tends to demotivate people. I know, because I've been there.

That's funny because I thought you were acting all high and mighty!

I didn't say I thought I was going to drop 5 pounds a week. I said I am happy as long as I don't gain or go down. How you read things is apparently completely different than how I write them.

And I said I appreciate your opinion and asked you to appreciate (or you could at least respect) mine. But I guess you can't do that and have to try and make me feel bad about how I am.

There is some amazing advice on these forums and I completely appreciate it, but I definitely don't appreciate being made to feel bad on these forums when I offer my opinion.

Advice is one thing, but how you write seems like a put down to me.

I agree with @Kindle. How much we lose and how fast is such a relative number.

How well are you doing at reaching your Protein and Fluid goals?

That said, my one year Surgiversary is coming up in a couple of weeks and have lost over 200 pounds.

I'm seven weeks started 256 now 220. Just B12 1000 drops. On vit d 5000 muilty tums Iron and two Fiber pills and Tuesday I start excersizing and up Cal to 800 protien 70 Fluid 80

My surgery was 3/15 also and I have lost 21 lbs. But haven't lost anything in the past few days. Gained a pound and was hoping it was due to my girlfriend being here (time of month) but not I'm not so sure. I have been eating by the book. I don't know what to do to get back in weight loss mode. It's too early for a stall. Right?

Cause in one yr will all be where we should be if we lisen to doctor and nut. Some weight more then others and there weight will be a higher number I'm looking forward to October and being 140 or less and then maintaining it the rest of my live.. I thank my higher powers for the will power. And the compliments that come with it. I now if scales not moving inches and fat are.

I had my surgery two weeks ago. On first day home from hospital I was up 12lbs. I knew this was from all the fluids given in hospital. That weight was gone in two days. Then I lost 2lbs a day for three days. Then I have not lost anything and yesterday actually showed a pound gained. This has been discouraging but I have my post op appt tomorrow and hoping to get some answers. I do think I was not getting in enough calories even though I was getting in 70 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water I was still at only 600 calories a day. Has anybody else had this experience?

I had mine on 3/28 and almost the exact same has happened to me. I was 240 to start, surgery date 233 now 218. But i have been that way for the past week (i got my period). I weighed myself and I was 219 today! I dont get it. I really dont think im getting in enough protein or fluids, and far less than the calories I am supposed to be taking in. So I am assuming it will even out. But to have a week of no loss after all this, is frustrating. Im hoping the scale jumps down when my body catches up to itself. Please let me know what the doc said!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
