Girl Scout Cookies

Recommended Posts

I knew this time of year would be hard, but man do I want some Girl Scout cookies!! It makes it so much harder when I work for a local council and there are trailers full right outside.

@@lifeofblair - I was asked last night going into and again going out of Bonos if I wanted GS Cookies (in my head I was thinking YES!!!).

My reply was a "no, but thank you..."

This is a difficult time of year, especially since the Girl scouts seem like they are everywhere. I feel like I have a sign on my forehead that says "follow me!" however, so far I have been okay and resisted. If those darn Cadbury eggs start following me, I cant make the same promises. lol

My daughters sell GS Cookies, so they are in my garage as we speak. I will be honest and acknowledge that I ate one Tagalong and a few Thin Mints. My will power has helped restrain the urge to plow through a whole box, but it's hard! Especially while staffing booths where those colorful little boxes are taunting me. Damn, they're just so yummy!

One of the boys brought in Thin mints last night, I just stared at him. I threw them in the freezer behind everything, that's our favorite way to eat them. I refrained and they are gone, I also told him he was grounded.

I have a sign on my door telling solicitors we know who we are voting for, we have religion, it goes on to say unless your selling thin mints not to knock.

I'm afraid those trailers would not be safe.

I have everyone at my office selling Cookies for their daughters. They look at you if you say no...but now I have come up with a fool proof way to nicely say no.

I tell them I can only buy them if I see a girl scout in uniform come to the office with pen in hand to take my order. They don't want to bring their kids to the office and I don't want to buy their cookies! :)

Sorry I was a girl scout...all the way through to cadet and you know my Mother and Father never sold my cookie quota for me. Nope I had to go out there and earn it. I know it's not the same today where you can go ring a door bell...but really these kids are so internet savvy...they can do it.

Besides it gets me off the hook nicely and when the other co-workers bring in their boxes because they don't want to eat them all...I make sure that they put them in front of the "sellers" office and not mine. Do I sound terribly mean??

I buy a box of Cookies, I buy a candy bar from the kid selling outside the grocery store....but with one caveat ...

I tell them I will buy one of what they are selling but they must keep the item!

They are usually thrilled and I feel good that I supported and even better that I didn't put it in my mouth!

My husband and I ordered 4 boxes. They haven't arrived yet. But I have no doubt I will be able to incorporate them in a moderate way. Luckily I'm in maintenance. If I were still trying to lose weight, I would probably steer clear altogether.

My daughter is a Girl Scout and my wife is the "Cookie Mom" so we have cases of Cookies all over our house and garage. I even help my daughter deliver the orders. But I'm afraid of them, so I won't touch them. I feel like one cookie will lead to a sleeve (pun intended)! Actually, I'm pretty sure it won't, but that's what I tell myself to stay honest. Also, in maintenance I have to stay vigilant all the time, because when I let my guard down the weight starts creeping up. And then I have to work even harder to get it back down -- which is what I'm doing now, even without Cookies. I'm battling a five pound gain back down to my comfort zone. Almost halfway there...

I agree with you.

But, my rule is that the Girl Scout has to sell them to me (over the phone is fine).

I bought some from my niece this year and they are being donated to their local children's home so I don't even have to take possession!

Thin mint flavor please! I hate this time of year and I know my hubby will bring them into the house. I also know I can control myself.

My husband went out yesterday and came back home with a lemon meringue pie. A whole friggin pie! Now of course I can control myself but he should not have it either.

Today, said pie left with him and is headed off to work where his coworkers can eat the dam thing! I told him he was grounded too!

I was thinking that some smart person should figure out how to add those Torani coffee syrups to our Protein shakes to make them taste like thin mints! I used to have some mint flavored Syrup.

Around here you can buy them and have them shipped to deployed US troops. I haven't been asked yet, but that's going to be my tactic.

Be Strong everyone! :P

Making it through GS cookie "season" has been my big NSV for this week!

I threatened my hubby with bodily harm if he brought them in the house. He was stashing them at his BFF's (if guys have that sort of thing....) but then his friend said that he was eating way to much of them and gave some of them away. I think my hubby did sneak a few boxes of Thin Mints in the house but he hid them well and didn't tell me. I love him for the willingness to help me stay on track. :)

Just glad it is almost over....

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
