    Now I'm pissed. Seriously pissed...

I agree, thank you for putting things into prospective

What do you buy at Costco?

pure Protein bars and asparagus. Sometimes I get the tiny wraps that have the meat and cheese, but most of them go bad because its sooo much. I have gotten the already baked chicken before, and beef Jerky

    Feeling Alone

i am almost a year out from surgery, RNY..and would be more than happy to help with any questions or if you just need someone to talk to

WLS and Nexplanon (or any other BC)

I have had the Mirena for about 5 years, and up until the point of surgery, I didn't have my cycle. Once I started losing the weight, I had my cycle like clockwork. Granted it only lasts two days and isn't super heavy, I still get one.

    The great straw debate!

I had surgery about 11 months ago. When I first got out of surgery, I had a huge problem trying to get enough liquids in. Even though the Dr recommended to not use a straw, I figured I would try because I was desperate at the time to not go back to the hospital for dehydration. Well, the straw did the trick. I still use them now. If I don't, I don't get enough fluids in. Also, I am not able to drink out of a water bottle without it. When I drink straight from the glass or water bottle, I either drink too much at one time or suck in too much air and it hurts.

How do you flavor your water?

I slice up a lemon and put it in there.
  7. Playing softball again. I played from the time I was 6 years old until 2008. I injured my foot and never go to playing. I started playing again this season and it has been awesome. If only I could re-learn how to run and not wear spanks lol

Nothing to speed up weightloss like divorce

I am so sorry that this is happening to you and I suggest taking advise from some of the people who posted above me. Just keep your head up. I didn't go through the same situation, however left my boyfriend of over 5 years after surgery because he was insecure and wasn't happy that I was losing weight and changing my life, when he wouldn't take care of himself. I dropped the weight ( mine and his butt) and haven't been happier. Its going to be hard for a while, but you need to do what is best for you and your kids. Stay strong and we are here for you cheering in your corner
  9. For me I am only able to drink the pre-made protein shakes. I have the GNC lean swiss chocolate and rocket fuel. I believe that I will be on protein shakes forever. Dr wants me at 100 grams of protein per day, and that's pretty impossible for me on just food alone

    Water!

I am 11 months post op and for the first month or two Water tasted nasty to me. Now I can drink it, only if its super cold and through a straw
  11. I am almost a year post op and have tried soda once. It was Diet Cherry 7up and and it was during a time I felt like I needed the bubbles in the my stomach to get whatever was stuck in my throat down.. Big mistake. I got the food that was stuck, along with the soda out within a min. I also tried those carbonated flavored waters as well, but those hurt my stomach and was laying in the fetal position for over a year. I know that everyone is different. If you want to try it, I would wait until you are a few months out and try clear soda and caffeine free. Good luck
  12. Prior to surgery I was type 2 diabetic taking 2 medications including insulin and blood pressure medicine. Since surgery, my diabetes has been in remission. No medicine whatsoever and just had blood work done a couple weeks ago and my A1C is in the normal range

Steps per day -- how many do you shoot for?

I have had a fitbit for about a year and I average more than 10k a day. I do weekly challenges with others to keep me motivated. I would start at 10k and then work your way up
  14. Clothing can be a pain sometimes. Right now im in the awkward phase where my shoulders are almost normal size, but I still have the stomach and excess skin. Love shape wear, however all the clothes I buy I can only wear once or twice.

    Kaiser Northern California

Hello and welcome. I had my surgery in Northern California through Kaiser June 2015. I had mine done in Sacramento, and the East Bay may have some slight differences, but here are the steps 1. Introduction class- usually about an hr. Once you have decided you want to move further, let your PCP know and they will submit the referral to the bariatric department. They will then take up to 2 weeks to review your file and once you have been approved to move further in the process, they will call and schedule your first class with the surgeon 2. Bariatric class-this is an introductory course with the bariatric department that explains the entire process. You will be weighed prior to class and will get your appointment with the surgeon at the end of the class if you are wanting to move forward. You will also get a binder during that point...this will be your lifeline. 3. Nutrition class/Surgeon appointment- Depending on how far your appointment for the surgeon is, they may schedule the nutrition class first. From your bariatric class, you should be following the eating program inside your binder 4.Surgeon appointment- You will meet with the surgeon and they will go over your overall health and give you a pre-surgery weight goal. Once you are within 5 lbs of that goal you will have your next step. Make sure you weight in at Kaiser at least once a month 5. Psychological exam- Once you are within your 5 lbs, you will have to do blood work, ekg and be set up with your psych exam. Once you complete that, you are onto the next step 6. Nurse appointment- One you are at your goal weight, you will meet with the RN and they will schedule you for the pre-op class, final appointment with surgeon, surgery date, and post op dates. At this point, if you gain any weight, you will have to go through this process again 7. Pre-op class- goes over everything with the surgeon and a final look at your Vitamins Let me know if you have any additional questions and I can help
  16. Hello Everyone, Quick question for all of you post oppers. I am about 8 months post op and have noticed that since I have lost over 100lbs, my balance is crazy. I mean I am accident prone, but my balance is super off. Any suggestions, or do you think my body isn't used to the lack of weight?

    Balance after RNY

Well I a not having dizziness, just kind of clumsiness. Thank for you for the insight though, and will be checking with my DR at the 1 year mark to make sure I am not deficient in any Vitamins

    Suits for plus-sized ladies?

I have to dress professional for all the time. I usually hit up Ross. Walmart sometimes has nice slacks and Lane Bryant does, but those can get pricey. Good luck

    Cheese

I like Tilamook extra sharp cheddar ( black package) and the extra sharp cheddar from raleys is good

flat butt blues - shapewear recommendations?

I just started using shape wear because I am playing softball and didn't want all the jiggly parts to be flying everywhere. I started with the boy shorts and they are okay, but they ride up...Today I have the tank on, and it sucks everything in, but I feel awkward. Walmart has lots of different shape and firm wear at a nice price. All other places are super expensive. I would try a few and see what you like

    Dissonances...

Dumping isn't a fun experience. Its not just from eating the wrong foods, it can be from eating too fast or not chewing as much as you should..I haven't really tested the waters, but certain foods are triggers for me to dump. Good luck and don't focus on the dumping, focus on the journey ahead
  22. I did have surgery with Kaiser in California. Not sure if they are connected, but here was my breakdown -orientation class ( 1hr) if I was still interested, I would get the referral to the bariatric program -4 hr class ( meet everyone, get first surgical appointment) -surgical appointment ( meet surgeon, get goal weight) -4 hr nutrition class ----once you are within 5lbs of goal, then you get to do the following..Also make sure you get weighed once a month- -psych eval - EKG - once you are at your goal weight you get an appointment with the RN, they schedule everything else including pre-op class, surgery, and then your 2 and week appointment. hope this elps and good luck

    Age is but a number......

If I had the opportunity at 19 to have this surgery, I would do it in a heartbeat. Like you said, age is just a number. If you feel are ready and understand that this is a tool to help and not a solution and follow the program provided, you will do just fine. We are all in the same journey with you and are here to help

Anyone else have a broken mirror?

I think my mirror lives on a different planet. I don't know the person I see in it.
  25. OMG! signed up for my first co-ed softball league. Havent played since 2007 and 140+ more pounds. Im super nervous but excited at the same time

      Valentina

I played for 5years on a modified softball league. It was tremendous fun and very intense! Women playing sports can get cat bitchy at times. I loved it!! :) I played 1st base and then the last year I caught. I guess everyone knew that I was just stubborn enough to stand my ground at home plate--if you want to score you have to take MY plate away from me.--not easily done!!! :) Enjoy!! I certainly did.
