Zucchini noodles or Spaghetti Squash?

Recommended Posts

I'm a carb loving Italian and am craving some spaghetti! But I'm only a month post op and don't want to eat real carbs. So if anyone can share which one is more like spaghetti? Also- any good recipes to make it yummy :) thanks!

@@Melanie28, never the twain shall meet. Spaghetti squash is so good, but nothing like Pasta. Don't expect a similar taste. You can do most of the same things the squash as you would with Pasta. Just for an idea, take a look at the Moosewood (the original book) spaghetti squash casserole recipe. Lots of links to it in Google search. I also like it on its own as a side.

I like both honestly. It depends on the dish. If I'm wanting to feel like I'm having spaghetti, the spaghetti squash definitely scratches that itch more, but I used to make garlic Parmesan noodles as a side dish sometimes and the zucchini noodles fill that spot nicely and butter buds substitute the butter part nicely. There are also carrot noodles and beet noodles(didn't much care for those) but you can really do all sorts of fun things with a spiralizer and any semi firm veggies. :) even makes great sweet potato curly oven fries for that great "cheat night" without totally blowing it.

Have you tried "Miracle Noodles"? They are completely safe. --no calories, no carbs, not fat, no sugar--just Fiber.

They really have no taste of their own. They pick up the flavor of whatever you cook them in. I use them when I make shrimp scampi.

One just has to make sure to rinse, rinse, rinse them after taking them out of the package as they have an odd smell--not bad, just odd.

Give 'em a try. They come in different Pasta shapes.

I prefer to use the zucchini noodles for a real Pasta experience. I'm not crazy for the spaghetti squash with sauce. I do like it sauteed with olive oil and some garlic, or lemon, or both. I also like the miracle noodles with some things. You have to try all of them. Everybody's tastes are different, so go with what tastes the best for you.

I sautéed some cabbage tonight and ate with spaghetti sauce with some lean ground beef it was really good. I prefer that to spaghetti squash for sure.

Both are actually really good, but if I had to pick one over the other I'd go with the zucchini. I love the taste and texture, but it's also easier to prepare in that you just have to slice it or spiralize it, and cook it. The spaghetti squash you have to bake before using it. Not bad...it just takes a little longer. I love some zucchini noodles with spaghetti sauce and turkey meatballs! A great healthy swap that will kill the craving for carbs!

I like zoodles better just because it's such a pain to prepare spaghetti squash, getting out the seeds, squeezing the Water out after cooking, and all that.

I sprinkle zoodles with salt and drain them a bit before sauteing them in a skillet. Great with shrimp & garlic!

My spaghetti squash method is super simple. I poke it all over with a fork and then microwave it for ten minutes. I turn it over and microwave it again until it is soft. Cut it in half, scoop out the seeds and then scoop out the "noodles". No squeezing neccessary!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
