Recommended Posts

:clap2:.....of my 10 day pre-op fast (ish).....I'm allowed Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, milk, yogurt, chicken broth everyday and on every second day I'm allowed all that plus a small plain chicken breast and spinach salad with balsamic vinegrette.......I'm actually not feeling that hungry as I have a cup of Protein Shake when I do feel hungry....BUT....I'm getting terrible headaches.......I don't know if it's from the low calories or not?........I'll keep at it.......

only 8 days 'til the "band".........

More than likely the headaches are due to the lack of sugar in your diet. You are goingthrough sugar/carb. withdraw. It sounds like you are doing a really great job. Keep up the good work the headaches should go away soon.

I agree with valzie... it's the sugar! It will pass and soon you will say that you didn't realize how bad you always felt until you feel better!

I'm on my first day of a 12 day slimfast only diet (4 per day) and I'm climbing the walls! Good luck to you, just think at least you get to chew something, it could be worse!

Hi there - I am on day 5 of what sounds like the same pre-op diet. Are you being banded at the TLBC? For me, I think the headache I had the first 3 days was caffeine withdrawl. I only drank one cup of caffeine per day, but it was a french vanilla cappuchino, and I had to stop because of the 'no sugar' rule. Since I don't drink pop, or anything else with caffeine in it, this cut out the only caffeine my body is use to. I have since added in one cup of caffinated tea per day, and my headache has gone away. Ideally, I'd like to have no caffeine, but I figure that it doesn't help to do away with everything at once, and the diet is hard enough, without having to cope with a constant headache. Just my experience!

yes.....I'm going to the tlbc on July 30th......You?

..I'm still allowed my coffee so it's not withdrawl from caffeine......I emailed the clinin tonight to ask for a suggesstion.......my head is hurting terrible.......maybe it's carb or sugar withdrawl.........

I'm scheduled for my band to be placed on 8/3/2007. I'm seeing a lot of posts that people are on pre-op diets. My surgeon only suggests nothing by mouth after midnight the night prior to surgery. Does this sound correct? He's only been doing bands for about 10 months.

If I need to skip some meals, I'd rather do that than be sorry. Any suggestions????

August 2nd - same week, so maybe we can compare stories thereafter. Hopefully the nurse can give you a better idea. Although, I emailed the dietician a week ago and still haven't heard back... I am waiting to find out if dill pickles can count as a low glycemic veggies, like cucumbers are. I thought this might curb my cravings for something that isn't white and bland....

Hi Moneylady, I have no idea why some people on here fast beforehand and others don't. I was told to and since I'm spending $16,500 I figure I'll listen. I was told it helps with several things: get's fat off the liver to help with recovery, shrinks the liver so the DR can reach the stomach better when they retract the liver and finally will help get your body prepared for the first weeks of fasting/dieting after surgery.......

OMG!!!! call and ask them again just to make sure, for me if I remember correct I was on a diet before and after the surgery ,the before diet was mainly to reduce the liver size for better access to your stomach, and after to prevent slippage... that is mainly what I can remember... Where are you having your surgery done???

When I was on Atkins I had 3 days of hell, as my body withdrew from the carbs and sugar. I did it over a weekend and I actually felt sick (sort of like a mild case of flu), and I stayed in bed for two days.

Then as suddenly as it started, it was over - and I felt great. I hope it will be the same for you (not the hell part)! :tape:

I am with you in this one... I am liquid Protein shakes only. I get 5 a day, but they are home made. What slimfast are you using? I am wondering, you mentioned chewing... can we have sugar free gum to chew on?

Hi Moneylady... my understanding the biggest reason for the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver since it is in the area they do surgery. I know those who have a fatty liver need to shrink even more. My Dr did say he likes to jump start the weight loss with the luquid diet and suggest going as long as you can. Said that the band will help you keep it off. I tried to start early but well it didn't happen so here I am day 1. I am already HUNGRY! Oh well I will get thru it. Anyways you might call your Dr and ask about the shrinking the liver thing! Good luck!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
