Lap Band Fills / Adjustment Info

Recommended Posts

It all depends on the size of the band and the amount of the fill....my dr was aggressive....so I was filled pretty good and lost.

Hang in there.....it does happen!!!! :)

God Bless,

Melody

I just read on the Inamed webiste that for every .4 cc that is put in the band, the diameter decreases by .5 mm.

I thought that was interesting.

Yes, it is normal to not loose alot of weight after the first fill. Until you find your "sweet spot" and feel some restriction it is up to you to make really good choices and exercise to loose the weight. I did not feel restriction until my third fill. Everyone is different but dont worry you will get there.

My doctor says it takes an average of SIX fills to achieve the right amount of restriction. I'm on my fourth fill and definitely benefiting, even if it's not optimal. Remember, the band is a tool that can help you immensely, but diet and exercise are still YOUR responsibility.

 Hi! It's me again. Thanks for the encouragement. I went for my second fill yesterday and I have a total of 2.6 cc's in a 4 cc band. I am so hungry right now because my doc does not want me to eat anything for 48 hrs after banding. But hopefully I will start to notice my weight dropping now that I am tighter.

Surgery date 8-21-06

starting wt- 255/235/150

LONG WAY TO GO!!!!!

Does anyone know of a doctor that does fills in the Beaumont, Houston area that uses Flouroscope? I don't want to be a doctors first fill either. I was banded in Mexico and have been driving to Bryan/College Station for my only fill so far. It is just hard to get away for fills when it takes up your entire day. I really liked her, but just can not get away often when I drive 4 hours there. Even if it is Lake Charles La or Orange TX. Anywhere in the far South east TX area.

God bless

has anyone used fillcenters usa? I went to their site so i can go to the tampa fill center. They want me to put in my ssi number, my husbands ssi number, insurance carriers, where i work, who i work for and lots and lots of info. When i try to call the Tampa office i cannot go direct to that office. when i did call and told the person on the other end of the line that i didnt understand the reason for asking the no less than 50,60 and probably more questions, he just said dont do it then. So i just hung up phone.

Call Dr. Mary Hewitt in baytown. She has the band and is a GP who does fills... she is awesome!

This sounds great. Can you tell me how much she charges? Does she use the flouroscope? I am very familiar with Baytown. It is on the right side of Houston at least. Please let me know what your experience with her has been. I do thank you for this info and any tidbit of info that can help me.

God bless

Does anyone know what causes you to need a fill 2 or 3 weeks after the last one? What happens to the Fluid, does it leak out? I don't understand

why you need another so soon, especially since they are so expensive.

Is it caused from eating too large a meal or what? I would just like to know.

Dr. Hewitt charges $200 if you weren't banded by Dr. Spivak and $100 if you did...For my first fill she didn't use flouro, but I know its available...

She's banded, has lost 163 lbs, and knows a TON about the ins and outs of the band. She's very down to earth and totally easy to talk to...her office staff is great.

I called her office today. I was told she charges $250 and they could not imagine where anyone would get the idea they only charge $200 and they do not use the flouro. The woman answering the phone said that she can send you over to get ex-rayed and then look at the results of it to give you the fill............. She honestly acted like I was making the information up. So, I declined an appointment. If she sticks you in the tube that runs from the port to the band, it will forever leak and the money you spent on getting the bad is gone. Cause they do not guarantee anything!!!!!

Just an FYI on this doc.

Is it recommended to get the flouro every time? I think I would want it just to make sure they don't poke a hole in the tube.

What does everyone think?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
