What's for breakfast?!

Recommended Posts

I LOVE reading all of the things that you all are eating for Breakfast. I have been so boring. I literally eat the same thing every day which is a mini Protein pre-packaged thing I buy from the store of mini cheese cubes and non salted nuts and raisins. I am bored of it, but its so easy. I don't wake up with enough time to eat in the mornings, so I eat it after I get to work. I am going to try some of these options! Also, for Protein Bars during the day, I eat the "Pure Protein Bar" I like the blueberry kind. It has 20 grams of protein and only 190 calories.

I had smoked salmon with a touch of cream cheese this morning! No need for a bagel or any bread, I just use a fork. My other "go to" Breakfast is ground turkey with spinach and cheese (either feta, goat or shredded mozzarella)!

I am a non-traditional breakfast person. In the past it would be anything from leftover pizza to a bowl of chili... if i didn't skip it completely (85% of the time).

I am making a point to have "something" for breakfast every single day. My go-to is still coffee then a Syntrax Cappuccino to-go. Several days a week I will skip that when I have dinner leftovers. For instance, today I took a container of 6oz of Beef Fajitas for lunch/breakfast (and Yes I still weigh it, lol). I had my coffee : ) at home, and when I got to school at 7:15 I ate half of my portion of Fajitas, and for lunch the other half. I also love Tilipia for breakfast, and when we cook that for supper I make extra so I have some for the next days breakfast and lunch.

My other favorite is chicken salad. I love that on sliced cucumbers, and if I make it for lunch I will take enough to eat some for breakfast when I get to work.

@@Elode let us know how they taste. I have eaten the Pure Protein ones and they taste ok and didn't upset my stomach. That sugar cookie flavored one looks like it would taste good. Yum.... Sugar cookie!!

@@glitter eyes I just ate that one for dinner, I didn't feel like tacos. It's ok. Really soft but not a whole lot of flavor. Lightly sweet which I prefer. I don't like the ones that are overly sweet. All in all I'd eat it again. I'm waiting to try the combat. I hear they are taking over and kicking Quest out. Ha!

If you don't like super sweet, you may not like the Combat Crunch. They are very much like a candy bar. They use isomalto-oligosaccharide, which is the ingredient Quest replaced with soluble corn Fiber. So if you didn't have gas issues with the OLD Quest bars, you shouldn't have any issues with these.

@@JamieLogical Oh good. No I didn't have any issues with the old bars. I tried the birthday cake one and it was too sugary for me. We shall see.

This is off topic, but I have to say, you have lost a lot of weight in one year. More than most. So, how did you do it?

I am new to surgery(Sept.2nd ) and new to this site but I would be interested in any tips! Thanks in advance.

3 ounces of chili lime chicken breast for me -- that's my standard Breakfast. It is super easy (I buy it from Trader Joe's already cooked, just chop it up), extremely low calorie, low carb, high Protein, and very filling. :D

eta: I start my day with coffee, 2-3 cups of black coffee. But that's usually about 5 AM and I don't eat breakfast until about 11, so I think of them as completely separate!

Is that the first time you eat anything after you get up? I was told it's really important to eat within an hour of getting up to get your metabolism going.

@@mmincinci Girl! Hard work! I lost all my weight from what I put in my mouth. I (unfortunately) was not one who exercised like I should have. I'm not going to lie about it! My surgeon asked me about exercise and I told him "nope" he said since I've lost so much without it he wasn't going to give me a hard time. Anyway I'm trying to do a little more now. It's the only part of the plan I didn't do well in. Other than that I track everything I eat. I watch my carbs, sodium, sugar intake. I wasn't great at eating a lot I was sitting at 800 calories for months but now I get 800-1200. I eat high Protein but from lean meats like chicken, turkey and fish. I eat red meat but sparingly. I don't drink anything but Water (flavored) and coffee. That's it. Just diligent about what I eat. If I want something "bad" I work it into my day. If I would have exercised I probably would have lost even more but I just haven't found anything I like to do. An occasional jog with my daughter is about it. My skin bounced back pretty well. Defiantly not perfect but as good as can be expected. I wasn't looking for any miracles I already had 3 c-sections so it is what it is!! I'm happy with all of it!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
